APThe New England Patriots suffered a potentially serious blow to their offensive line on Monday night, as center Dan Koppen was carted off the field after suffering a leg injury.
Koppen was hurt in a pile-up on a quarterback sneak, and his leg bent awkwardly under him. He immediately screamed in pain, and players around him were waving for the medical staff to rush onto the field.
As Koppen rode to the locker room, players on both teams came over to wish him well, and their expressions suggested that everyone thought it was a serious injury.
Koppen is a nine-year veteran who’s been a starter since his rookie year in New England, and he has missed only one game in the last five years.
Backup Dan Connolly is now in at center for the Patriots, who lead 14-7 at halftime.
UPDATE: ESPN reports that Koppen has a left ankle injury and is on crutches in the locker room.

What a shame….Koppen has always been a class act, but injuries are part of football….the great teams overcome them.
Somebody tell ESPN to shrink that scoreboard, takes up half the screen.
I get that the league is concerned with head injuries, but anyone who has played football knows that pile-ups and scrums often hurt a lot more and cause more injuries than simply getting lit up.
Tough loss, but NE has decent OL depth.
I heard the scream from my house.
Oh wait, that was the Colts fans from yesterday…….
I saw that play. Id be surprised if hes not done for the yr. That looked nasty and is gonna be a big blow to the pats.
thats a bummer… cope is solid
Somebody tell the Dolphins that there are other people on their team besides Reggie Bush
Best wishes for Koppen. Now with Connolly in the game, maybe we will see his Ted Ginn impersonation. Big man can return kicks, just ask Greenbay.
Did anyone notice what he was saying when he was on the cart? It looked like he said “I didn’t think I was that out-of-shape.
Classy guy and one of the few truly tough old-school players in the NFL…i hate the Patriots but I hope he gets healthy soon.
So Brady has been sacked and has an INT
The Pats missed a field goal
and now Koppen is carted off
Belichikies head is gonna explode before the end of this game!!
Dan koppen left ankle return questionable.ill have more information in a little bit
Is it safe to laugh?
Any chance we can get Gruden and Jaws to remove the Dolphins nuts from their chins? Every 5 seconds, one of them is saying something along the lines of “the Dolphins D needs to make a play here”, or “the Dolphins need to make a play here”, “this is when the Dolphins need to make a play”…
When will it be ok for the Pats to make a play? Just saying…
Side note, I didnt miss Leigh Bodden last year, he is almost completely useless on D. He never gets interceptions, he never knocks the ball down, he is simply a completion machine when the ball is thrown in his direction… He is the best DB in the league when it comes to being one arms distance from your man when your man catches the ball…
Looked like a season ender.
I am very concerned about all the injuries to the centers!! Obviously, the snapping of the ball is one of the most dangerous plays in football. I am going to get with the competition committee and see if we can put the defensive lines 5 yards back. Thanks, Roger!!
sweet injury bug hits redsox and the pats sweet GO RAYS
Wow! Coach Shula must be ashamed of the physical conditioning of the Dolphins players. It’s embarrassing. Coach Spanono should be ashamed of himself. Tony call Coach Shula about conditioning. Missed tacking. Miami Dolphins cheerleaders are better conditioning than the Dolphin players.
Clearly, the loss of Koppen is going to hurt. I hope it’s not an IR scenario.
Of note, the game-time dew points must be in the mid-70s in the South Beach area—that’s pure tropical air. The Patriots players especially look drenched. Hopefully, we’ll have a snowstorm on December 24 when the Dolphins enter their appearance at Gillette Stadium. LOL
is “carted off” the key word you guys like to use?. In war, that means someone is DEAD
anybody else hear gruden say sh*t on the mnf broadcast? between plays around 7:32 in the 4th quarter.
“Tight ends are hot and Brady likes ‘em.”
-Ron Jaworski
Makes me feel better about Willie Colon who was ripped apart on these pages by a bunch of jagoffs
The Dolphins need to fire Sparano and go hire a great coach like Bill Cowher.
Too bad about Koppen. I think he is done for the next three months. Not sure if they’ll IR him being that they kind of need the roster spot. I guess it depends on the break.
Coach Scar can find someone…even from the pre-season and coach ‘em up. I’m not too too worried, but nonetheless, that sucks. Hope he gets healthy first, and back on the field second.

I think he said, “I wonder what sort of stupid comment cw3214 is going to post about my injury?”
The center isn’t as important in the Pat’s scheme, as the responsibility for calling out blitzes falls on the guy hidden in the stands with his camera focused on the defense’s sideline.
Hey-o!
