Ron Jaworski gets a little too comfortable on air

R. Jaworski

I was just working on a post when my ears perked up from something Ron Jaworski said on Monday Night’s broadcast.

Did he just say what I think he said?

After examining the tape just like Jaws would, I was able to confirm it.

“That’s one Chad [Henne] would love to have back.  He knew he had the one-on-one matchup going down the right sideline.  S—, you have to get rid of this ball just a split second quicker,” Jaworski said.

It was probably unnecessary to check the tape. I could have gone to Twitter, where thousands of adults gleefully reveled in a naughty word being used on national television.

S—, that was pretty funny.

UPDATE: Here it is, in case you missed it.   Jaworski did apologize for using the word towards the end of the broadcast.

UPDATE II: Here’s the apology.

  34. cshearing says: Sep 12, 2011 10:30 PM

  35. kingjoe1 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:30 PM

well it is about high time we find something more important to worry/discuss in this country. Between people getting worked up over curse words to millions of dollars spent everytime their is a nip slip on tv, we are pathetic.

Words and nipples, something we all have in common, yet we continue to split hairs about which ones are okay and which ones are not okay to be diplayed in public. I wish I had my own radio show let the venom out.

  36. cjepp says: Sep 12, 2011 10:30 PM

I could of swore Gruden said it.

  37. 1buckeye76 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:30 PM

thought i caught that… although it wasn’t overly exciting… not really a big deal.

  38. j0esixpack says: Sep 12, 2011 10:31 PM

I think Jaworski’s just angry because he dropped Brady and picked up Peyton Manning in his Fantasy Football League

  39. saturn1111 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:31 PM

He just apologized, and rather awkwardly. Not having heard him drop the ‘s’ bomb, i didn’t jbow what he was talking about when he apologized. But based on what he said in his apology, I thought he must’ve uttered a racial slur.

  40. jfont1584 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:31 PM

That was actually John Gruden. Great reporting.

  41. j0hnny63 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:32 PM

S—, will the American public ever grow up? To the point that they routinely dismiss these sort of gaffes in lieu of things that matter. Absolute childishness.

  42. clarkeyj1 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:33 PM

    Seriously? Who gives a S—

  43. mvpolamalu says: Sep 12, 2011 10:33 PM

When was it? I could rewind and hear it

  44. jlorenz24 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:35 PM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, definitely thought Gruden would be the first one to do that.

  45. mrf47 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:35 PM

I would have thought that Coach Chucky would have been the first member of the MNF crew to apologize for using one of the 7 words you can’t say on TV.

Still, it was pretty funny and anyone who was offended needs to grow a pair / put the kids to bed before 9:30 pm on a Monday.

  46. dabears72 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:36 PM

  55. rayjayjohnsonjr says: Sep 12, 2011 10:41 PM

Thanks for rubbing it in, Rosenthal. Have you never used the S word?….and make no mistake about it, YOU will never the have the stature of Jaws whether it be on TV or not.

  56. ravensj5 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:42 PM

    I thought that was Gruden

  57. typicalprofootballtalkreader says: Sep 12, 2011 10:42 PM

All commentators of major sporting events are sub-par, and should be mocked accordingly. They are also paid a lot of money, which I am not. Because they are paid lots of money, and I am not, I do not like them. Eli Manning appears foolish in the eyes of others.

  58. axespray says: Sep 12, 2011 10:43 PM

well I have never hea…. nah, hold up.

it’s a word, you know for all we know animals when they bark could be saying swear words all the time, idk why anyone would care.
    just words.

  59. thefiesty1 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:45 PM

  60. doppes1228 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:46 PM

Why in the Hell are you using a picture of him when he was with KC?

  61. teal379 says: Sep 12, 2011 10:47 PM

He can go ahead and apologize for always saying crap like “player X does it as well as anyone in the league” or “team X does it as well as anyone in the league” about EVERYTHING.

Then start with Gruden and “Now I love this kid….”

  62. johnnyshore says: Sep 12, 2011 10:48 PM

    @georgeanderson2
“That was not Jaws, that was Gruden who had the slip. I rewound it aswell just to make sure.”

Nope, definitley Jaws. If it was Gruden he would have said something along the lines of “Sh**, I just love Chad Henne. I love the way he plays and he did not make the mistake there because I love everyone and I may end up coaching the Fins someday so I don’t want to criticize them.”

  63. mrwaters says: Sep 12, 2011 10:51 PM

  64. The Fantasy Curmudgeon says: Sep 12, 2011 10:52 PM

I’m usually not a fan of Jaws, but him saying what he did made me much more of a fan. Shows that he is really into his job and talking like a real fan, not just another guy collecting a paycheck.

Anyone offended by his language needs to grow up. The whole sticks and stones song from the playground comes to mind.

  65. jenniferxxx says: Sep 12, 2011 10:52 PM

The government will wipe out the national debt with the fine from that one.

  78. havlicekstoletheball says: Sep 12, 2011 11:23 PM

Precisely the reason I never dreamed of becoming a sportscaster.

I’d have likely followed my mistake by saying “after all, the f*ckin’ guy was wide open!”

The pair that amazes me is Jerry Remy and Orsillo doing the Sox games. They had to watch Manny all those years play the outfield like he was blindfolded. And doing a game while Dice-K was pitching never produced a comment like “Matsuzaka sucks bigtime, Don!”

Jaws apologized. The ribbing he is going to take will be punishment enough.

  110. threedeep1998 says: Sep 13, 2011 8:28 AM

That’s the problem with Gruden and Jaws. They sound EXACTLY the same IMO. I think Gruden cursed if you watched the NFL.com highlights for a TD play. They didn’t edit/cut them when they went into commercial and just kept the audio on for the announcers. Pretty sure it was gruden who cursed then.

We still talk about a playoff game between the Steelers and (then) Houston Oilers, with Bum Philips as coach, when Myron Cope (RIP) got a little too excited as the Steelers were steamrolling the Oilers and he said in that high pitched voice “F…ing Houston’s been knocked flat.!”

Everybody in the bar stopped and just looked at each other, then burst out laughing.

Myron wasn’t heard from again for about ten minutes.
    (Probably getting an earful…)
They just ignored the incident, no apology, no mention the next day…

  113. omegaichiban says: Sep 13, 2011 8:55 AM

Jaws should apologize for riding Kolb’s nuts last year. “andy Reid is making the right decision starting kolb” Andy Reid made up his mind too soon instead of letting the process play out. Start vick last year, they win that first game and we have a different Superbowl champ this year.

  114. omegaichiban says: Sep 13, 2011 9:00 AM
