APNo team suffered through a worse opening week than the Kansas City Chiefs.
Sunday’s effort looked even uglier on Monday with the news that safety Eric Berry has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season. Jason La Canfora of NFL Network reported the bad news for the Chiefs second year player.
Berry was hurt while getting blocked on a play in the first quarter. The Chiefs believe the league should levy discipline for what they believe is an illegal block.
In his rookie season, Berry played every single defensive snap. The team thought he was ready to be one of the elite safeties in the league.
Instead, his injury is another obstacle the Chiefs must overcome during a dreadful start to the 2011 season.
Whoa, that’s a huge bummer.
call Ted Thompson for tips…
Keep doubting them, but the Chiefs will be in the post season come January.
Damn, he was lookin like the next ST #21. Real shame.
Look out for the Raiders!!!
Chargers lose 2 huge pieces and now the chiefs lose Berry
it was a huge cheap shot it was after the play when they were jogging to the ball. Berry being out killed the chiefs defense yesterday imagine the rest of the year.
Thanks for blowing my survivor pick, chiefs.
That said, hope this guy is okay.
wow sucks for Chiefs fans.. Berry seemed to be the back bone for that defense. Have a healthy recovery good sir.
So much for the Chiefs this year.
Frontrunners in the Luck derby. Congrats KC.
As great as the NFL is, the number of big injuries like this is so frustrating.
Look out for the Raiders!!!
Chargers lose 2 huge pieces and now the chiefs lose Berry

Losing Nate Kaeding sucks but I would hardly call Luis Castillo a “huge” piece. Vaughn Martin has looked good and filled it nicely against the Vikings.
Dagger….
Could the Chiefs playoff hopes be gone after week 1?
Not much going right in KC, besides Jamaal Charles, o course.
If it is actually possible, Todd Haley’s dour expression just got gloomier.
That sucks. even though I’m a raider fan and hate the chiefs I don’t usually like seeing players get hurt. Although it wouldn’t bother me if Philip Rivers went down. That’d be kinda funny actually he’s a tool. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery for Berry
Kaaaaboooom, down he goes! LULZ….the Packers may actually be able to give the starters a day off when the play the Chiefs. LOL.
Well $@#!
Over 100 people finna look silly come January.
wow a terrible secondary just got worse. luck better get very familiar with kansas city.
Sorry man, but that was a stupid pick for a survivor pool – I took Buffalo

Wow that is huge and Losing Castillo is big but losing Kaeding is ginormous. Defenses will be more aggressive knowing that the chargers don’t have a real kicker and they’ll be going for more 4th downs and with turner coaching…it could get ugly.
Really sucks for this kid and for the Chiefs. I wish him a speedy recovery.
Tough loss for them losing such a good player.
Next man up.
Feel bad for Berry….who knows if he ever comes back the same.
Chiefs were unusually healthy last year…doesn’t look like it this year.
agree with haleyistheman, huge cheap shot.
c’moooooonnnnn Luck!!!!
Michael Lombardi says it was a non-contact ACL injury. It sure looks like no one hit him in the tape.
why is everyone acting like San Diego isnt going to sign a kicker? it doesnt change anything, maybe they’ll get one who doesnt choke when it matters?

I lol’d
The Chiefs success last year was mostly due to an extremely easy schedule. They aren’t making the playoffs this year. Won’t even be close to making it.
“The Chiefs believe the league should levy discipline for what they believe is an illegal block, according to what we believe.”
This just gives the Chiefs an excuse to write off the season… and to keep Todd Haley.
Chiefs excuses:
1.) Lock out
2.) Moeoki IR
3.) Berry IR
Look on the bright side – Clark Hunt is $32 million under the cap and making plenty of money.
“Keep doubting them, but the Chiefs will be in the post season come January.”

Dream on. KC will finish around 8-8 or 7-9 at best. The loss of Charlie Weiss is huge and they won’t be able to compensate for it. Don’t be shocked if the Chiefs are picking somewhere around #12 overall next April.
That’s gotta be tough loss for the Chiefs
