Steelers place Colon on injured reserve, again

Last year, the Steelers lost right tackle Willie Colon to a ruptured Achilles’ tendon during training camp.  This year, after signing him to a new, five-year, $29 million contract, the Steelers lost Colon in the first game of the season.

On Tuesday, they placed Colon on injured reserve, two days after he suffered a torn triceps against the Ravens.

The news came via a press release, into which the move was tucked, almost as an afterthought.  The announcement devoted three paragraphs to the news that the Steelers had signed tackle Jamon Meredith.  At the bottom, the Steelers mentioned that Colon was placed on IR “[t]o make room on the roster.”

Taking Colon’s place in the starting lineup will be Marcus Gilbert, the team’s second-round pick in the 2011 draft.

….and the fact that you consider it “almost as an afterthought” matters how? What are you trying to insinuate with that comment?

Back off the guy! he made it one more game than last year. If he keeps up the pace in 16 years he will complete a whole season.

    NO! not fast willie colon!

Steeler threads are quiet…a beatdown of that magnitude will do that sometimes. I like to think of them as the “aftershocks”.

glad the Bears didn’t get him after all

we signed WHO? you’d think we’d protect our $100 million dollar qb with a bit more than speed bumps.

seriously? its a post about a lineman going to IR, not really going to stir up The Nation..relax..go enjoy your win

Just thinking ……. why would you give a 5 year deal to a guy who missed the entire season?

Well let’s see if the steelers “honor” his contract lol which I highly doubt they will with them being 20+ mill over the cap next season.

Like Bengals owner said palmer needs to honor his contract, but owners never honor squat when they cut guys. NFL contracts mean nothing.

They should put Ben’s Colon on injured reserve too after that raping he took on Sunday, I guess it’s true what they say about Karma.

Thank God the Bears did not give this guy franchise LT money

Amazing how things can change so fast in this league. Four days ago, a lot of people were laughing at the Ravens for signing McKinnie.

Injuries are a bummer, and part of the game. Who know what things will look like in week 16, so everyone just needs to calm down after week one.

Highly upset about this one. I didn’t want any excuses come week 9 when they catch ANOTHER ass whoopin. Sigh. 🙂

They could have Anthony Munoz and Jonathan Ogden as their tackles. Sizzle is still not gettin blocked. He’s like a sex-offender seeking guided missile.

@ravenator- It may be quiet right now, as there’s no doubt we got a beatdown… in every facet of the game.

Make no mistake though, we’ll be back, and we’ll be ready.

@fhuizar- Mike Brown is a pos loser. He’s making his money, and doesn’t care about the product they put on the field, only his ridiculously narcissistic pride.

That said, it is a bit “unfair” that the only money “guaranteed” is guaranteed money in a contract; why not just pay them that? It would end up much easier to figure out the salary caps each year imo…

Yeah, it’s never good when the old Colon is hurtin’.

  23. jimmymcnultysbottleofjameson says: Sep 14, 2011 8:21 AM

Great, an excuse for the Steelers when the Ravens beat em down for Rd 2. Nothing was more satisfying than destroying them on Sunday with all of their starters healthy.

  24. dayumyou says: Sep 14, 2011 8:57 AM

Willie should have NEVER been kept on….never liked him as a person or a player….he can’t protect Ben on or off the field…he needs to GTFO.

That being said regarding sunday’s beat down I have only one hing to say to you Ravens fans:
    can we have your O-line???

  25. steelersmichele says: Sep 14, 2011 9:41 AM

ravenator says: Steeler threads are quiet…a beatdown of that magnitude will do that sometimes.

If we were Ravens fans and lost, we’d be all over the place complaining about how bad calls cost us the game.

  26. jessethegreat says: Sep 14, 2011 10:44 AM

That happened to me once…. too much Mexican food will do that to you.
