Tommy Kelly to Bills: “We ain’t the Chiefs”

T. Kellyscuffle Getty Images

Raiders defensive lineman Tommy Kelly was suitably impressed by Buffalo’s 41-7 victory on Friday.

“Oh yeah, it caught everybody’s attention around the league,” Kelly said via BuffaloBills.com. “Any time you can go on the road and have a victory like that, that’s going to open up a lot of people’s eyes.”

Kelly, who has steadily made his insane contract look slightly less insane, has a warning for Buffalo.  The opponent gets tougher this week.

“The thing about the NFL is that happened last week. You’ve got to do the same thing this week. So whatever they did is a nice impressive victory, but they’ve got to come and deal with us now. And we ain’t the Chiefs,” Kelly said.

He’s right. With eight straight wins in the AFC West, the Raiders should puff out their chest.  Unlike the Chiefs, the Raiders know who they are: a physical team that will try to beat you down.

This is a tough matchup for a Bills squad that hasn’t exactly exuded toughness over the last few years.  Then again, the Raiders need to show they can win a game out of division on the road.

I’m excited to watch this game on Sunday. Winner gets inside position as the AFC’s “early surprise” team.

It’ll be tough for the Raiders flying across the country, on a short week, no doubt about it.

One thing’s for sure though, win or lose, the Raiders are going to lay the wood down on the Bills.

They lay it down on everybody now.

    ++++++++++

Charles averaged 5.6 yards a carry. Boneheaded turnovers & crappy defensive play by the Chiefs got them in a hole early and forced them to abandon Charles and throw the ball. The Bills defense was not shutting him down.

Bills had better hope the same thing happens this week or they’re going to get really sick of Darren McFadden

By this measure Mccluster averaged over 10ypc. While both both mccluster and charles combined for a meager 14 rushing attempts and both coughed up a fumble. You keep calling it a “bonehead play” while everyone else credits a stout defense with forced fumbles. This isnt an instance to argue it was KC’s game to lose. They were outplayed on both sides of the ball.

maybe you should have watched the game… 50 of the 108 yards came on one drive… in which the defense was playing soft to protect the big play…. it was a good drive for sure but lets not get carried away with the rushing averages… they were inflated on one drive…

  37. wojowbk says: Sep 16, 2011 11:16 AM

The Bills weren’t as dominant last week as the score indicated. They got very favorable field position too many times through turnovers and capitalized on it running up the score.

Raiders run defense looked very strong last week and if Buffalo turns one dimensional, Fitz might actually get killed in the pocket. Broncos o-line was better than the Bills’ and they got destroyed vs the pass last week. The Raiders actually have a pass rush unlike the Chiefs.

  38. rabidbillsfan says: Sep 16, 2011 11:18 AM

I am going to blow a gasket if my fellow Bills fans don’t stop patting this team on the back. I liked the way the run D looked, but they still gave up to many long runs on a limited amount of running plays. McFadden and Bush are more complete backs than Charles and McCluster. I also think the Raiders Line is better than the Cheifs. However, I think the Bills passing game cancels out the Running game of Oakland. Chandler needs to be involved heavily again! This should also be a breakout game for Roscoe, as I don’t really think that the Raiders secondary depth has the speed to keep him in check. If the Bills can get a 10-14 point lead at some point in this game, then I belive they can put the Raiders in the rearview with the Cheifs. I see 27-20 on the Horizon.

Is this guy high? The Raiders don’t have the speed?? This is the fastest team in the NFL and it’s not even close. People made fun of Al Davis for drafting track stars year after year. I can say that I was also a fan who got sick of it. But I can honestly tell you now that after all these years I finally see what Al Davis was trying to accomplish. This team has insane speed everywhere. There is NOTHING like it in football.

You DO know that the Raiders exposed and DECIMATED the Chiefs 31-10 in week 17 last season? Then The Ravens came in and did the exact same thing 30-7 the following week in the playoffs! They looked like sh*t during the preseason and your Bills did the exact same thing in week 1 with a score of 41-13. See the trend here?

Tommy Kelly is 100% correct. KC Chiefs are GARBAGE once they iced out and finally axed off. coord. Charlie Weis last season. The Raiders are NOT the Chiefs! Don’t expect a blow out win against the Raiders because you beat up a suspect team (at best).

  51. failcopter says: Sep 16, 2011 12:24 PM

I find it amusing how everyone assumes the chiefs were good at one point. They made the playoffs via a weak schedule. Look at how they’ve been ever since that 31-10 loss to Oakland.
As for the bills, don’t get your hopes up. I’m not trashing. I’m just saying that as a raider fan, I know it takes more than one good game to leave doormat status. From one fan of a perennial loser to another, wait a few weeks and see where you are before you trash.
I am saying 28-21 raiders. I think the D-line will overpower the bills’ O-line enough to make up for oakland’s suspect secondary, and that McFadden and the presence of previously injured receivers will tip the balance on the other side.

    ————————————
I don’t think anyone is saying that. What YOU fail to understand is that the Chiefs won games only when they hired Charlie Weis as the offensive coordinator. Once Weis was finally fired after being iced out in the Raider/Chefs game in week 17, your offensive production from that point, through the playoff game, through the preseason, and to last week’s debacle, has taken a nose dive of epic proportions! Haley is way over his head.

But because mental midget Napoleonic complex Todd Haley can’t deal well with someone having more knowledge about running an offense than him, your team will continue to suffer. He’s micro managing your team back to irrelevance.

And what is up with your play calling system? The off. coord. calls the plays, relays it to QB coach Jim Zorn, and then relays it to the QB just to have it interceded by Todd Haley’s calls into the QB? Jim Zorn, formerly of the Washington Redskins, should have told Haley that that system didn’t fair very well in Washington. Then again, Zorn probably is only going along with it to keep a paycheck coming. Pretty soon, your entire coaching staff will be out of a job!
