The Broncos were hoping to keep injured defensive tackle Ty Warren’s roster spot open until they absolutely needed it.

With all the injuries on the squad, they needed the spot much sooner than expected.

Mike Klis of the Denver Post reports Warren is headed to injured reserve. The team will promote running back Jeremiah Johnson from the practice squad, which is a clear sign Knowshon Moreno isn’t expected to be ready for Sunday’s game. Willis McGahee will carry the load for Denver.

Warren, meanwhile, has missed two straight NFL seasons. The Broncos gave him $4 million guaranteed, which was their biggest free agent signing of the offseason.

McGahee was one of the players we touted during our weekly Friday spot on Versus.
