Nick Collins spending the night in the hospital

Nick Collins AP

Though the news remains optimistic for Packers safety Nick Collins, he didn’t join his teammates for the trip home from Charlotte.

Said the Packers in a statement issued earlier tonight:  “Nick Collins has normal feeling and complete movement in his extremities.  As is standard protocol, he will be kept in the hospital overnight for observation.  When he returns to Green Bay, he will undergo further testing and evaluation.”

Collins suffered an apparent head/neck injury during Sunday’s win over the Panthers.  He was taken immediately to a local hospital.

About time some word on him starts coming out. Thanks for the update, I really hope everything turns out to just be precautionary, Nick is such a fantastic player and person. Sucks to see something like this happen to him.

Hate when stuff like this happens. Just an awkward bump of the head caused the whole situation. One of the perils of playing football.

Thankful he’s OK. Get well soon, Nick.

How could any of the first four comments get a thumbs down? This website would be sweet if you had to pass a basic IQ and football knowledge test, because that would weed out most of the morons on here.

Glad to see it’s not serious. You hate to see anyone get carted off in such fashion.

Agree on the thumbs down people, and I’m a Viking fan!

Oh, and major props to the fans of the Panthers, very classy in giving him the road ovation as he was carted off the field. Always liked the Panthers and they’ve gained even more of my respect.

It has nothing to do with IQ or football knowledge. A certain percentage of people are just mean, ignorant, hurtful people. Maybe even evil. On this board that percentage seems to be quite high.

Glad to have this news. If he has to miss a week or two, I’d prefer that to anything else more severe. The whole time I was watching him put on the cart, I was simply thinking “Wave Nick, wave to the crowd at least!”

When he did, I breathed a sigh of relief even though I still wasn’t sure how bad it was.

I was at the game. They didnt cart him off. They wheeled him off on a stretcher. This was after about 10-15 minutes of people checking him out. Was pretty intense. It was nice to see him waving his hand because i was legit worried he was real messed up

This Panther’s fan wishes him a speedy recovery. Good to hear he has movement in his extremities. These injuries always remind us that it is just a game. Get well soon.

I may be a Bears fan & Nick Collins may be a Packer…….. but good luck on a quick, complete recovery. Hate to see this happen to any player(s) on any team(s).

I actually gained a little respect for Cam newton when he came over to wish Nick well as he was being carted off on the stretcher. That was a nice gesture.

And now I just heard he’s gone for the season.
