Cowboys get bad injury news on Felix Jones, Miles Austin

Dallas Cowboys v San Francisco 49ers Getty Images

It’s a good thing Dallas pulled off a terrific comeback victory Sunday, because the news after the game wasn’t so good.

Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that running back Felix Jones has a separated shoulder.  Wide receiver Miles Austin also pulled his hamstring again and the team fears he will be out through the team’s Week Five bye.

If Austin is out, the team needs Dez Bryant to get healthy fast.  They also need DeMarco Murray and Tashard Choice to step up at running back.

After two road games to start the year, the Cowboys host the Redskins and Lions the next two weeks.

The injury bug has hit. Now is the time that we see how good of coaching and depth they really have.

skins are 3-0 after this news..

  3. troybulletinboard says: Sep 18, 2011 9:12 PM

In other news, I’d spent the last week considering dropping Murray, and now this news. Jones has been stinkin it up anyways, he could use the break.

  4. bleedgreen says: Sep 18, 2011 9:17 PM

They’re going to have a tough time against both teams. I don’t think the Skins are really that good, but they always give the Cowboys fits. The Lions look like they’re out for blood though and are going to be tough for ANYONE this year.

Miles Austin sure didnt play like he had a bad hamstring.

Did any player workout or do conditioning in the offseason/lockout?

  8. rexismybff says: Sep 18, 2011 9:27 PM

Felix is always one play away from injury – that’s why they got Murray in the first place. He should be more than an adequate replacement.

Cowboys should worry more about the fact that they don’t have any healthy DB’s than anything else. That and the rib injuries for Romo and Whitten.

Although, Romo played far better post-injury than pre-injury, and didn’t make any boneheaded fumblin-bumblin-stumblin runs to kill the comeback like last week. Maybe a rib injury to keep him playing disciplined football in the pocket is just what Romo needs in order to take the next step in his career.

Dallas better keep Bryant off special teams duties.

Who would win in a fight 10 mini Suh’s? Or a certain hurricane named Suh?

Detroit probably breaks a couple more of Romo’s ribs.

Get well soon Austin! You’ve been killing it for my fantasy team.

These Lion fans are so bold now. You’d think they’d won a playoff game this century or something.

The Redskins catch a break, but the Lions were rolling over the Cowboys no matter who suits up for them in two weeks.

Amazing what happens when they didn’t stay in shape during the lockout.

Somewhere NFL washouts Tiki Barber and TJ Houshmanzadeh are waiting for a phone call that will never come.

When was the last time this two game series would have been considered a challenge to any NFL team? Yet the Cowboys may just end up 1-3.

Time to see what Tashard Choice can do this year. Here’s your chance good luck.

  23. emac40 says: Sep 18, 2011 11:39 PM

Through 2 games, the coaching must be great because the depth on this team is awful. No one on this team from the 09 draft will come back to haunt. The Boys wont be able to count on undrafted FA’s and reality TV stars all year. They better get healthy quick, because there are no lay-ups on the schedule. Same story for the past 3yrs…glaring needs in the D-backfield and OL. To think, they could have traded T Choice for Antonio Cromartie before he signed with the Jets. Another steller non-move for Jerry.

These hamstring injuries tell me that some of these guys were on the couch during the lockout instead of staying in shape. Felix Jones would find a way to get injured playing mini golf.

  30. localbandhero says: Sep 19, 2011 1:06 AM

The funniest part of this is how the ‘Skins and Lions fans are talking smack. Say what you will about the Cowboys or Jerry or whoever..but c’mon.

No one believes the Skins despite a “hot” 2-0 start against Eli Manning and a defense without Tuck or any starting corners, and the freaking Cardinals who have sucked since Warner left. Jerry Jones > Dan Snyder, and any Redskins fan that can’t admit that is lying to themselves.

The Lions aren’t even worth ripping. Suh and Stafford look good, but until this team does ANYTHING significant (except entering the record books with an 0-16 record), there’s no room for these fans to trash talk.

  31. trollaikman8 says: Sep 19, 2011 2:23 AM

This Cowboys team is competitive in spite of Jerry Jones tragic General mis-Management.
Horrible drafts, god awful FA pickups and now the game winning pass reception (to Jesse Holley) was to a guy who was discovered by Michael Irvin.
Terrble, as Charles Barkley would say.

YOu should expect to see more of the same bad Rex this week, With Ware and the crew bearing down on him. And we all know how Rex gets after he’s been hit a few times, Dont we?? It doesnt matter who’s out there, We’re coming away with a win. YOu Skins fans should be happy with starting 2-0, But at the sametime, Y’all havent played anyone yet, The Cards are weak, And the Aints was without seven defensive starters.

  33. dopesimms says: Sep 19, 2011 8:26 AM

Of course Redskins fans talk with out looking at the entire situation. Yes, the Cowboys have injuries, but guess what?

    Chris Cooley – Questionable Knee

Laron Landry – Questionable and Aggravated AGAIN Hamstring, the same one that put him out the season last year

    Bryan Orakpo – Questionable ankle

    ————————————————–
The Cowboys lost a mediocre runningback at best. And no one is even sure what’s going on with Miles Austin. If him having a questionable hamstring gets him a 100+ receiving yards and 3TD game. Then by all means, keep pulling it.

The guy that threw the pass to Holley was also undrafted, and the guy that caught 9 passes for 143 yards and three TDs was also undrafted. You’re an idiot just like Barkley. Don’t be mad that the Cowboys can develop talent.

    1. Romo still sucks
    2. The Alice Cowboys are not America’s Team
    and
    3. The 49ers haven’t had a winning season in 11 years.
    ??????????????

I take it your a Skins fan, So chew on this, No Redskin QB has had a better single season Numbers wise. So suck on that, And as far as The Cowboys not being America’s Team, Asked those fans that was in Candle Stick yesterday. The Dallas Cowboys have more fans across America then any other team. Alice that. And lastly who cares how many losing seasons the 9er’s has had. The Skins have a losing record almost every year and we still split with them, Sometimes the sun shines on a Dogs A**. Sept 26.

    @starderup

    1. Tony Romo sucks? Tony Romo was in the top 5 for most touchdowns in the past 4 years. (Let’s not forget one of those 4 years he DIDNT EVEN PLAY). Let’s dismiss that dumb assed comment.

    2. If you watched football, you would have noticed Brady James (one of the voices and leader of the team) said himself that they haven’t earned the entitlement of “America’s Team” and that entitlement goes to the throwback Cowboys teams. So why you’re still bringing that up, no one knows.
