Darrelle Revis: “I was in tears that [Jason Hill] didn’t play”

Some thoughts after watching the Jets absolutely embarrass the Jaguars 32-3.

1. Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis wasn’t happy that Jaguars wideout Jason Hill couldn’t suit up for the game.

“I’m going to give him some advice: When you call out people, make sure you go out and play,” Revis said. “I was in tears that he didn’t play.”

2. Luke McCown had the type of day that makes you think the Jaguars can’t be consistently competitive with him at quarterback.  He threw four passes caught by the Jets, and only six completions to his teammates.  Jacksonville was missing a few weapons, but McCown missed throws that were open.

Blaine Gabbert put up decent numbers in mop up duty. We can’t imagine McCown will have a long leash moving forward.  His decision making was slow, and then faulty.

3. The crazy part of this game? Jacksonville actually ran the ball pretty well.  (Maurice Jones-Drew had 88 yards in 18 yards.)  We have no idea why the Jaguars threw the ball in third and short multiple times.

4. It looks like a Dustin Keller kind of year. He had another huge day.  Mark Sanchez threw two ugly interceptions, but at least he led the Jets on a first quarter touchdown for the first time since last October.

Sanchez struggles to put together four straight good quarters, but with this defense it may not matter against sub-par opponents.

5. Plaxico Burress didn’t have a catch.  He wasn’t even on the field during plenty of key snaps.

6. This was a step forward for the Jets. They didn’t consistently win games they should win last year. And they barely won any games this easily.  They need wins like this if they want to win the division.

  1. Revis is a tool. Watch his play. He mugs receivers way past the 5 yard limit. he holds, pulls, pushes and never gets called because of this absurd reputation he created mostly by mouthing off in the press.

  2. Hill is the poster child for trash talkers who can’t back it up. If you’re not good enough to get in the game, maybe you should just keep quiet about how bad the other team’s Pro Bowlers are.

  3. The score is not indicative of the way the game actually went. McCown’s 4 picks set the Jets up quite nicely. The Jags d-line did a very good job, but the defense in general got gassed towards the end of the game since they were on the field so much.

Jets will have trouble with stronger 4 man fronts, especially if Mangold is out for awhile

As for the Jags, I shudder to think how bad Garrard must have looked in practice if they thought McCown was better. (Side note, Garrard threw 4 picks in week 2 last year)

  4. I hope teams are dumb enough to keep calling the jets out before games. That was a beatdown today and to me the mvp of the game was Cromartie. He almost ran back a kr and had the two picks and ran one of them back to the one yd line. They still need to clean some things up but hey 2-0. I just love the thought on how much that must piss off all the jets haters. Oakland your up next 3-0 next week.

  5. Anybody else tired of seeing Sanchez do that silly Jet celebration? Makes me want to pee in Fireman Ed’s gas tank.

  6. Typical Jets player (and coaching staff), they’ll never take the high road and react with class. By the way, someone remind Revis that it’s the F’in Jags; not the Pats, Steelers, Ravens or Green Bay.

    Cry more.

As if QBs and WRs don’t have it easy enough.

  8. I’m a Giants fan so I’m glad to hear the Jets feel they can win without him, even though it was the Jags. Speaking of the Jags, I see now how saving that $9 million on Garrard made the team better. Worst team in the AFC between Jags and Bengals, easy. This is 2 teams that drafted quarterbacks high…

Dude, you are a DB. That’s all you are. You are not the franchise.

Seriously, shut up and guard your man.

    ————————————————–

True. However, he’s the cornerstone of the Jets defense and indespensible in how they scheme against teams. It’s also (severely) a passing dominant league, which makes an elite DB all the more valuable.

    Today: 2 targets, 0 catches, 0 yards.

    Did guard his man.

  10. Not the worst team…can’t really say that after 2 games, but I will say the Jags have THE worst coach. There is talent on the team, just bad, bad coaching and play calling.

  11. Please get jack del rio outta jax!!!! I dont even know y he kept putting Mccown back in the game!!!! Somewhere david garrard had himself a little chuckle….

Perhaps you need to be reminded that someone from the Jags made the comment, not someone from the other 4 teams you mentioned. I think they’re smart enough not to even call Revis out.

So do us all a favor and break that keyboard of yours before you type something stupid again

  13. @docredskin

He only does it when he throws touchdowns…get used to it. You’ll see it plenty in week 13 in your own backyard. He threw one on the first drive today. That alone was enough to beat the Jags, our first round draft picks sack/safety sealed the deal.

  14. Jetsfanfolife, read what I wrote again…take your time, go slowwwwww. Comprehension is obviously not your strong point, but then again, you’re “jetfanfolife”. That says it all.
