Dunta Robinson can expect a big fine, at least

AP

When Dunta Robinson nearly beheaded DeSean Jackson last year, he was fined $25,000 by the league for a helmet-to-helmet hit. (It was originally $50,000, but reduced by the league.)

Expect Robinson to get another hefty fine after a helmet-to-helmet hit against Jeremy Maclin on Sunday night.

Maclin didn’t miss a lot of time, but that shouldn’t change the punishment.  It was a textbook helmet-to-helmet head hunting hit.  It wouldn’t be a shock if a suspension is at least considered because Robinson is a repeat offender.

  1. Dirty Cheating Falcons. Dumbta Robinson (?) should have been thrown out of the game. 2 years in a row with illegal hits. SCUM…

  2. I always been a fan of Robinson since his days with the Texans..but this has to end. The man needs to learn how to tackle right, or he will be out of cash by the end of the season.

  3. Hopefully Goodell will wear some shoes that say “PAY ME DUNTA ” That would be irony, Im just glad he is not a Texan anymore

  4. Robinson, and Maclin, are lucky that Maclin saw the hit coming and turned just enough to make it a glancing blow. Otherwise, its likely Maclin would not have left under his own power… I think a suspension should be in order.

  5. Im sorry but that hit was ALL shoulder pad. Plus he didn’t “launch”. Somebody tell collinsworth to shut his gullet!

  6. But Asomugha does it, and there’s not even a peep about it (the next series when the Falcons were on offense).

    SO EXPECTED.

And stop it with the hit last year. Like it or not, it was CLEAN.

  7. Not a Eagles or Falcons fan, but that hit was BAD. Robinson showed no remorse. Clearly a superman hit leading with the head.

  8. I don’t believe in fines because 1) penalties are supposed to be applied during the game, and 2) fines don’t work. Dunta Robinson is a perfect example. Robinson’s hit on Jackson last year was blatant head-hunting. His nearly identical hit on Maclin proves the fine was not a deterrent. Perhaps a one-game suspension will be.

  9. What the hell is wrong with these idiots leading with their helmets? I remember the warning sticker inside my helmet in high school that said something like, “spearing can lead to serious injury to yourself or others”. Am I the only one that ever saw this warning sticker?? Maybe a defender is going to have to hurt himself seriously before these guys pull their head out of their backside. For Christ’s sake my seven year old son has better tackling form than most of these guys that think throwing a shoulder into a guy will bring him down. Wrap up and see what you’re hitting!!! Is that so difficult to comprehend?!?!?!

  10. i’m pretty sure we all love football, and i’m also pretty sure we don’t want to see some dead dude on the field because of dunta robinson spearing people and going to the sideline saying F em. no remorse with this dude 100k fine plz

  11. I LOVED that hit. Those FILTH had it coming. Then and that FILTHadelphia scum hole they all live in.

ahahahahahahaha I told you punks. 6-10 all day. JETS 2011 superbowl. Keep wishing your team was good filthadlephia.

Agreed. BUT….throw him out of the game, and he immediately hurts himself and single handedly puts his team in an impossible situation. Unreal that they didn’t throw him out.

  13. I don’t have a team that I care about in this game, and the announcers were clearly not for the hit, so I’m sure this won’t be a popular statement, but ultimately it is the correct one.

Robinson lead with his shoulder, not his head, so that hit appeared clean from what I saw.

I’m not saying I like it, clearly he was looking to inflict some punishment on that hit, but he did it cleanly. It is unfortunate that the announcers were all over it calling it helmet to helmet, because it wasn’t. It was just a vicious but ultimately clean hit.

your comment makes you look like an idiot. stay classy clown

  15. Come on people this is football….that hit does not compare to the hit from before…guys get paid 10x more than those from the past who took harder hits for less money…..everybody act like he committed a homicide….fine him let’s get on to playing Football! How long will it be before it become two hand touch?

  16. for those saying robisnon led with his head, you should watch again. He clearly tries to throw his shoulder into maclin and he hits him shoulder to shoulder. The helmet contact was incidental to a legal hit.

hit was not dirty. Robinson ducked his head to avoid the helmet to helmet and only Maclin’s facemask hit off the top of robinson’s helmet.

Maclin is the one that leaned towards Robinson. Not Robinsons fault

Please give us your word you won’t have children.

  18. Forget the opponents he’s hitting, if he keeps hitting with his head down like that he’s going to paralyze himself. Maybe he’ll have remorse then. In my 10 years of playing and 12 years of coaching I can’t even estimate how many times I heard the phrase “see what you hit.” Robinson is seeing nothing but green turf and he’s going to hurt himself a lot more than a fine will ever hurt him if he keeps using that technique, or lack thereof.

  19. I hope Dunta Robinson gets Nancy Kerigan’d and Albert Haynesworth’d on the first play next week. Guy thinks hes a tough guy, launching at people with his helmet going full speed. He deserves to get it just like Victor Ortiz did for launching with his head. I hope he tries that crap in the real world with somebody and they shatter his knee and his career. It would probably be the safest way his career could end. Because if he is allowed to continue to play like that hes going to break his or someone elses neck and/or cause these ball carriers severe medical problems in the future. Like dementia , ALS , or sucides like we’ve been seeing lately by former players with brain damage.

And here we have one of the strongest pieces of evidence I’ve ever read against siblings marrying.

  21. Anyone who thinks it wasn’t helmet to helmet needs to go watch the replay in slow motion. It clearly was. He didn’t even bring his arms up from his sides. He was clearly head hunting.

I think most of what Goodell has done for “player safety” is BS, but crap like That is unessesary and can really hurt someone.

Suspend him. That will get his attention.

I guess that is what we’ve all come to expect from a JETS fan!

There were a lot of stupid penalties called today for good clean hits by refs who were afraid to be officiating a game when a player got hurt. The stupid penalties were the result of the new rules most of us think go too far to remove the physical element of the game. The stupid new rules are in place because of hits like this one that clearly are either intended to hurt the opposing player or are the result of an exceptionally athletic yet lazy @$$h013 who doesn’t care about a $50k fine. Suspend this guy a game and the next time he does it give him a whole season off…

  23. I hope they don’t back off on the fine this time. Hit like that once…chalk it up to an educational slap on the wrist and reduced fine…do it again NO MERCY!! You have already been warned.

  24. Here’s another thought…

Blatant repeat offenders of hits such as these (purposeful and forceful leading with the helmet with intent to cause injury to another player) :

    First offense: Fine and warning

Second offense: Fine + ejection from the game & suspension.

Third offense: Ejection from the league.

I guarantee you will see a reduction in repeat offenders.

  25. Last year’s hit was a shoulder pad to helmet hit and the receiver’s head was moving down as Robinson approached, making it impossible for him to react when running full speed. However, having something similar happen for the second year in a row sure doesn’t look good.

  26. The penalty was incorrect, it was not a defenseless receiver but a ball carrier (had posession and turned up field [if you have time to try and juke the hit, your not defenseless])

but Dunta has to think of his own safety and thats what the spearing rule is designed to protect.

The only time I’m okay with a helmet to helmet hit is if it’s on Vick.

    ——————————-

The only time I’m okay with potentially injuring / paralyzing / killing someone is if it is you….

  28. Hahahaha, wow never in all my life of being a Falcons fan have I seen this much hate for our team. I love it. It’s better for them to trash about you than to not talk about you at all.

As far as Dunta goes. Hate all you want on him, he is not a dirty player. The man tackles and sometimes in the heat of the moment your body reacts a certain way and your head naturally drops. Dunta is known for leading with his shoulder not his helmet. It’s not like RBs and WR don’t lead with their helmets as a weapon when trying to run over people, oh no that would never happen. It was two instances in two years. It’s not like he does this all the time.

Anyways with all the hate I’d just like to say. Thank you for visiting the Georgia Dome and giving us a big win. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.

  29. Give me a break. It’s funny how these posts ignore other illegal hits by the eagles.

Listen…they both ducked their heads. Robinson was trying to jar the ball loose because they needed a big play out of their defense. On the intial movement of Robinson it wouldn’t have been helmet to helmet. It would have been his shoulder hitting Maclin’s chest. Maclin, after having time to see out of the corner of his eye that Robinson was coming, turned his head down to dish out some punishment of his own.

We are talking about split seconds here on a full speed play. It doesn’t look bad until you put it in slow motion but the problem is they don’t play at that speed.

And to call out Mike Smith is just plain STUPID! He doesn’t coach dirty play.

  30. 4 game suspension and the next time he does that he’s out for the year.

He will learn or not play and his ability to earn a living will be forfeit. If you refuse to play by the rules you should not be welcome on the field.

  31. All the sudden the Egirls are the poster girls for clean players. Tables get turned Egirl fans defend the hit. Andre Waters was a hometown favorite.

  32. A former wide receiver announcing in the booth complaining about a hit that a db laid on someone? …what a shock. Beautiful open field hit if you ask me. Head across the front of the body, drove his shoulder through the ball carrier. Only thing I thought is Dunta could have done a little more to keep his head up.
    ~sincerly,
tackle football fan (not soccer/flag football/ or whatever God-dell is trying to turn this game into)

  33. Or maybe I should just say you moderators and your little pal Rosenthal. My comments are lucid and on point. This nonsense of limiting me to three lines is infantile. Screw you.

  34. @ampking101 … I rooted for the Falcons and I’m glad they won. This has nothing to do with hating on your team. The film showed Dunta was head-hunting.

  35. Well, boys behind the scenes … I’m flattered that with 8 million unique readers, you find me so worthy of your attention. Whatever it takes to get you off 😆

  36. You’ll need to stop whining it’s freaking football if these pu….. Can’t take a hit hang up your helmet all these stupid rules are hurting this game what do you think would happen if theses players today played back in jack lamberts and dick Butkus days they wouldn’t stand a chance it football a full contact sport if these over paid baby’s can’t take the heat get the he’ll out of the kitchen

  37. For those of you posting it was a clean hit and you truely belive that he did not intentionally try to harm the wr who had 171 yds and 2 tds, your either an eagles hater or a complete moron. Im an eagles fan i think it was a great game congrats to the falcons on a good win….that said no one is hating on your team your making yourself and the rest of atl fans look stupid…. As for the.jets fans your whole organization is dirty thats the way rex teaches football…. And as for the vick haters jesus christ get over it the man has done his time paid his debt and risks his health everytime he goes out on the field because of jack offs like dunta robinson who dont wanna play by the rules…. He SHOULD have been ejected. He SHOULD get a 2 game suspension. And he SHOULD be on season ending probation for the next 2 seasons. He didnt even attempt to make a legitimate tackle…. Good game atl look forward to playing again in the nfc championship.

  38. Hey FAN…how many hits did the eagles get away with. My point is that the hit turned out to be illegal and then he was flagged & penalized. Only he knows whether or not it was intentional. He’ll have to live with that.

Saying it last or with the most capitalized words doesn’t make you right.

Maybe the players should tweet that the fans that drink & drive should lose their jobs for 2 years. Maybe they should tweet that fans that text & drive should lose their jobs for a year. I think there is just a few hypocrites on here.

  39. Im sorry i didnt realize capitalized words were to big for you… How exactly is he going lo “live” with that?? You think he cares about the $40000 fine tjey just gave him? He just signed a 57 million dollar contract. lesson learned? As for fans unless they have a driving job that has absolutely nothing to do with this situation.(get a dui however and your license will be suspended) especially if your a repeat offender….and as for these eagles hits they must not have been that bad if no one cares to give an example. All i got so farwas that guy with that hit on ryan…. Im sure there were ple.ty dirty hits. But i didnt any other blatent ILLEGAL hits during that game. Feel free to point out the obvious for me. Sorry for the capitalized word, do i win again?
