Getty ImagesThe Jaguars may want to check if David Garrard is still available.
Luke McCown was pulled from Sunday’s game early in the fourth quarter against the Jets after a truly miserable performance. He was picked off four times, completing only 6-of-19 passes for 59 yards.
The Jets defense deserves a lot of credit, but McCown deserves just as much blame. He missed open receivers on multiple occasions. His decision making was terrible. The third interception was off his back foot and had absolutely no chance of being completed. The ball was returned to the one-yard line. He also took a safety because he didn’t get rid of the ball quickly.
Blaine Gabbert entered the game with the score 32-3. We doubt that Gabbert gets the start next week, but McCown can’t have too many performances like this and expect to keep his job.

another one bites the dust
Again… no run at Favre and they are going to complain? Call him up, I saw him buying boot spurs at the local secondhand shop.
Rex: Hey, Del Rio, preseason’s over.
i wonder how Jason Hill feels about this
still threw for more than mcnabb last week
Somewhere, David Garradd is laughing hysterically and will have a HUGE smile on his face all week long.
Who thought McClown was a better QB then Garrard.
Jags only team in the NFL with worse QB mismanagement than the Vikings. Fire this clown already.
LMFAO, but Sanchez is the awful QB right?
2-0
4 Picks is HOTTTTT
The Garrard decision was not about Luke McCown, but Blain Gabbert, who has thrown for almost the same amount of yards as McCown did all game in 1.5x the attempts
Sanchez played horrible too.
Time to start the rookie, was bound to happen and is the real reason Garrard was let go. Time to take your lumps young man. 4 picks by the 3rd quarter is unacceptable. bench time LOL.
Garrard will laugh for a week but losing 8 mill will make any man not smile for a goooood while.
The thing that people are ignoring here is that Garrard had 4 INT’s in week2 last year and looked just as awful as McCown. Would it have been any different with Garrard? Doubt it, he was even worse than that this year in the off-season.
Anyways, it is time for the Gabbert era to begin. That should have been happening from the start.
Just exactly WHAT did you expect?
Jags may have been freaked out by the sight of a REAL fan base.
Screwed that one up…1.5x more attempts than McCown INTs
Jaguars management fail
Garrard was awful also.
Del Rio is Mexican for “awful decision making”
“Sanchez played horrible too”.
LOL..when you win 32-3…..Sanchez didnt even have to show up!
Del Rio gets the hook on Monday
As I stated, last Sunday’s win was pathetic. A now I stand corrected. This game didn’t have anything to do with the media golden boy Sanchez, but a Jags defense that didn’t get any pressure on him. He throw 2 picks. Jet’s defense played lights out, gotta give credit.
Just start Gabbert already. Let’s go through the growing pains this year and hopefully be ready to compete next year. Oh yeah by the way, with a new head coach and offensive coordinator.
To ALL Luke McCown fans.Hope you enjoyed the game. With the 1st pick in the NFL 2012 draft Jacksonville selects____________.

Oh yeah that’s it. An irrelevant Jets franchise for the past 40 years. I’m soooooo freaked out. You’re funny.
Somewhere David Garrard is smiling.
The only people who didn’t see it coming a mile away are Jack Del Rio and Jon Gruden.
Although Gruden did call pulling him in favor of Gabbert “a terrific move”.
Enjoyed watching every second of that beat down. The jags asked for it and they got it. They dont have any weapon besides jones drew. Their d looked ok but that offense is dreadful.
The Jags put McCown in the best possible position to win when they gave him his clipboard back in the fourth quarter.
Luke McCown did receive the game ball, though…to bad it was from the Jets!!!
OK, we’re 1-1. Defense didn’t play too poorly giving up only 13 points at the half. With a little O we’re right there. McCown’s performance was terrible and painful to watch. I’m over Garrard and McCown. Please start Gabbert so we can see some semblance of a passing game. This might also take a man or two out of the box for MJD. Yes the rookie will take some lumps and we may lose, but at least it will be intriguing. Rookie matchup in week 3 vs. Carolina. Coach him up Dirk! The future is now. Let’s go Jags!
well i see McCown keeping starting next week and if he has another bad game then Gabbert will likely be the starter the rest of the year.
@ ny82jy..yeah the Jets beat down the Jags score wise, but do you know the db’s of the Jets had more yards running with the ball than your running backs ? Just sayin…..
If Sanchez played so poorly, who threw those two touchdown passes? I’m not saying he’s a world beater. He’s young, but he’s growing up, and at least capable of leading an offense. Unlike half the quarterbacks in this league.
Enjoy your week Jets fans. Sanchez is a middle of the road QB on a team with a good defense (MJD was still gashing) and a lot of talent at TE and WR.
Jags D stuffed the run, picked him twice, and knocked him down repeatedly. Without a complete meltdown by McCown its a close game. Ryan can guarantee the super bowl every year, but he’s not getting there with #6. And deep down you know it.
