Jon Kitna briefly replaces injured Tony Romo

Aldon Smith, Justin Smith, Tony Romo AP

Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo left today’s game in San Francisco after taking a hard hit to the back.

Romo appeared to be hurt when 49ers defensive back Carlos Rogers came on a blitz and drilled him from behind. TV cameras caught Romo walking gingerly from the sideline to the locker room. Early indications were that Romo had suffered a rib injury.

Backup Jon Kitna came on in Romo’s place and threw an interception on his first series.

The 49ers lead the Cowboys 14-7 in the third quarter.

UPDATE: Romo returned late in the third quarter with the 49ers up 21-14.

I wonder if Jerry Jones is thinking of tanking the whole season to make a run at Andrew Luck or Landy Jones?

  3. secdominance says: Sep 18, 2011 6:01 PM

    *Landry Jones

Update: ROMO has a fractured rib.

Dallas needs an OL. Season over.

I am not sure at all that this hurts the Cowboys. Kitna is a solid game manager type qb who may force them to run an evenly balanced offense and play-pass off the run. Romo is a stat generator for fantasy losers, but he has never shown a killer instinct. Quite the opposite actually.

I also have Jamaal Charles on my fantasy team. So it was fun while it lasted.

2 interceptions now for “one of the best backups in the league”. With or without Romo, this team is looking like it’s on the 49ers level, not the Jets’ level.

I think the Cowboys’ best bet at this point is a time machine and the name “Ryan Mallett” spoken aloud at this year’s draft. Or 14 more losses.

Great to read good old Carlos Rodgers is thinking of the Skins by laying the smack down on Romo today. He might not be able to make an INT, but the guy is terrific in coverage and brings it on the blitz. Seeing how Josh Wilson almost made himself a quadriplegic due to piss poor tackling technique, I long for the days Rodgers manned that 2nd CB position.

I know this will get numerous thumbs down, however they really need to give some thought to bringing in Favre if Romo can’t go. Him and Dez Bryant could be lethal together and they could win out the year and give Favre that one last ring.

romo is such a gash. anyone with guts would have sucked it up…

  22. kevpft says: Sep 18, 2011 8:01 PM

Well, I take it back. Romo reversed last week, lousy for most of the game then taking over the 4th quarter. 13 points after a broken rib. That’s a tough guy.

Somehow this feels like a clean slate for their season now. Not sure he can keep doing it with that injury, but at least now they know they’re capable of it.

Skins play dallas next week. Since being drafted, this is the first time Carlos Rogers has done anything positive for The Redskins. Oh…Niners fans get used to seeing the football bounce off his face cause he ain’t gonna catch it.
