Bears wanted Hasselbeck in 1998, as their starter

The official player page at NFL.com shows that Titans quarterback Matthew Hasselbeck joined the NFL in 1999. During Tuesday’s visit to PFT Live, Hasselbeck said that he actually entered the NFL in 1998, spending the season on the Packers’ practice squad.

And, indeed, Hasselbeck was a sixth-round pick that year. As a member of the practice squad, he could have signed a contract with any other team, at any time.

He said that, with two games against the Packers coming up, the Bears wanted to sign him, not just to be on the roster but to start.

We’ll defer to Hasselbeck for the full story.
