The Chargers were “excited” after losing to the Patriots. The Chargers, then, should be downright giddy after learning that 4,600 tickets remain for Sunday’s game against the Chiefs.
If not sold by 1:00 p.m. local time Thursday, Sunday’s game won’t be televised locally.
The urgency projected by such releases is largely phony. Extensions routinely are given, and as the Dolphins proved last week by purchasing (i.e., paying 34 cents on the dollar) 10,000 unsold seats, there are ways to ensure that a three-hour infomercial for the local team can be broadcast in the home market.
Obviously, however, NFL teams prefer that your money, not their money, be used to permit the infomercial to be aired.
