Gene is a scout, not a GM. I respect his due diligence and all the hard work he puts in, but his scout mentality of trying to find the diamond in the rough that nobody else knows about has crippled out roster. There needs to be a GM in place to “check” some of his decisions because this roster isn’t NFL caliber."

If it wasn't "NFL caliber", they wouldn't have won 8 games last year.

If the Jaguars were to go 1-15 (quite possible) and somehow get the #1 overall draft pick they would not, under any circumstances, draft Luck. Gabbert is the quarterback of the team for the next decade. Period. With or without Del Ego.

They would trade the pick away, and by the grace of God they'd actually draft a WR.

No QB - not Brady, Brees, Vick, Flacco, Ryan, or Rivers - could be successful with these WRs. None.

Gene Smith’s three first round picks have been from the ACC, Pac 10 and Big 12. Whats the problem?
---------------------------------
Sarcasm dude.

If I play devils advocate, Eugene Monroe hasnt proven himself worthy of the #8 pick (and where's Eben?). Especially when Michael Oher fell to the 23 spot.

I like Alualu, but seriously, #10? Good player, horrible pick placement. I'm not buying that they couldnt have traded down and picked up the same player and got another pick.

I really like the Gabbert pick, but lets be realistic. The Jags #1 receiver is 5'9. This is a draft failure by not committing some picks for blue chip receivers.

And I'm not going to ignore Rounds 2-7 and the GM's penchance for small school (re: cheap) athletes and pass that off as an NFL caliber team.

People are ready to off Del Rio's head and I'm first in line. But it's time for "In Gene we Trust" to start producing.

I could care less about the Jags. But if Del Rio's job depends on winning this year, they should have dumped his contract too. They should make plans to move to LA and start looking to hire another guy. But since the owners have such a sweet deal, it doesn't matter. They don't have to win to survive. They just have to pay guys more now due to the new minimum. In other words, except for a new coach, nothing will change. I bet they wish they didn't cut Gerrard.

This guy has it right. Pretty sure they’ll be eyeballing a fullback from Barbizon Beauty School in the first round. Hey, he’s the team captain so he must be good."

Tom Coughlin was fired after not only building this team and making it a instant contender he won the division at least 3 times and made it to the AFC Championship game as well. I have always felt it was Wayne Weavers biggest mistake to fire Coughlin. He should have looked at the stability they have in Pittsburgh where they stick with their coaches if they have a couple of bad years and allow them the opportunity to rebuild their team. Now teams fire the coach if he does not win in a couple of years, All except Jacksonville . Now is when they need to make a change and they will not do it. A mistake to do it years ago and a even bigger mistake not to do it now.

As a Jaguars fan, when it was decided that we were "rebuilding" going into the 2009 season, and after the 2008 debacle, that would have been a time to consider letting go of JDR and clean house, but for some reason we decided to "rebuild" with all the important pieces in place (JDR and David). Then after the meltdown of 2009 season, somehow JDR survied again. Then after another identical meltdown of the 2010 season, JDR survies once again. How? Who the F knows? This franchise isn't "rebuilding" until he is gone and a new direction is brought in. Somehow we have been blessed with Jack's historic run in Jacksonville for 9 years (only coach to ever coach into a 9th season without winning a Division title in NFL history). When is enough, enough?

As a Jaguars fan, when it was decided that we were “rebuilding” going into the 2009 season, and after the 2008 debacle, that would have been a time to consider letting go of JDR and clean house, but for some reason we decided to “rebuild” with all the important pieces in place (JDR and David). Then after the meltdown of 2009 season, somehow JDR survied again. Then after another identical meltdown of the 2010 season, JDR survies once again. How? Who the F knows? This franchise isn’t “rebuilding” until he is gone and a new direction is brought in. Somehow we have been blessed with Jack’s historic run in Jacksonville for 9 years (only coach to ever coach into a 9th season without winning a Division title in NFL history). When is enough, enough?

How does Del Rio still manage to be a Head Coach?"

The same reason Marvin Lewis, Tony Sparano and Gary Kubiak do. Teams were less likely to can their coach this offseason because of the lockout. Had the lockout gone into the season, the team would be paying two head coaches to essentially do nothing. Had this been a normal offseason, a few if not all of the coaches I mentioned would have been gone.
