Tom Brady is playing insane (THAT’S what “lights out” looks like, Mike Vick!) and the New England stopped Rivers and a potent Charger’s offense on four straight red zone drives while forcing FOUR turnovers!!!!!

I don’t see how the Packers are ranked over them, let alone the Saints!

Forgetting the fact that your second sentence makes no logical sense, you may want to consider rewatching their game against the Ravens and let me know exactly when/where/how they dominated that game. Unless you meant they dominated in turning the ball over, which you would be correct.

It’s funny to see Philly fans talk about ATL. Sure losing Vick was a blow but I’m pretty sure Kafka was 7-8 for around 80 yards until his last pass. So I’d say the Falcons pulling their game together in the end was more of the reason they won that Vick getting hurt. I mean, Vick doesn’t play defense as far as I know.

To those who think the Packers should not be #1, remember these two rules. 1. The defending SB champ starts the season at #1, untill they lose a game. (It doesn’t matter how well all 3 phases are currently playing, it has no bearing on anything, wins are all that count). 2. See rule 1.
That said I have my misgivings on the Packers defense 2 games in. I do firmly believe Ted, Mike, and Don will put together a defensive unit capable of making enough stops in any given game to keep them competative in the game and through the season. I’ll stick with my forecast of 13-3 for the Packers. Quite frankly I believe the Lions may be the next best team right now, they look great.

First, that game was December 2009. Get it straight.

Second, of course the 2011 Power Rankings should be determined by what happened in previous seasons. The Patriots went undefeated in the 2007 regular season, they should be ranked first, right?

To the poster who said the Patriots pass defense is why they’re ranked third; yeah, right now it’s very suspect, but the results of the total defense count more. New England stopped four straight red-zone drives, and got four turnovers.

That doesn’t suck.

On the other hand, I’m thrilled with the play of the Lions, which is largely madeup of Seattle castoffs. Shows how much Carroll’s “get younger at any cost” plan has worked.

And how is the Lions being 2-0 the most stunning reversal in league history? Again, clearly you haven’t actually been paying attention to actual football. The Lions were playing well at the end of last year, have good young players, had a good draft again, and were predicted by many to be a winning team this year.

What? That was a bad game for Brady and the Patriots but that happened three years ago!

New England has it’s flaws but so does every other team in the NFL. Beating the Chargers isn’t a walk in the park that’s a quality win that will impact playoff positioning in the AFC.

Beating the Bears does the same but Jay Cutler was average at best because he has one of the worst offensive lines in the history of this league.

@grpatriot: Patriots are 3 because of their pass defense. Enough said.

@skins23: The Lions are one of the biggest turnarounds in history because the last 4 to 2 seasons ago, and possibly even longer before then, getting 2 wins was their annual average.

@pfii63: Ranking the teams has some subjectivity to it. The question is who’s going to win the super bowl? Seriously, you think the Bills are more likely to win the super bowl than the Falcons? We know who each team is playing the rest of the year, it’s called a schedule. Bills have to survive a couple games against Jets and Patriots and make it to the Playoffs, and you think they’re going to do so in better shape than the Falcons? It is not supposed to be who has the best record this week, that’s not what power rankings are for.

I get the hate for the lowely Bengals but have you looked at Dalton’s numbers?
Dalton joined Hall of Famer Dan Marino as the only rookie quarterback since the 1970 merger to post a triple-digit passer ratings in each of his first two games and he’ll try to match Marino’s 28-year-old feat of starting off with three straight this weekend.
Newton does have more yards with 854 on 93 attempts to Dalton’s 413 on 56 attempts but Dalton has a better completion percentage (66.1 – 62.7), QB rating (105.7 – 89.1), No interceptions to Newton’s 4, and they both have the same number of TD’s with 3.
Also take into consideration the fact that Newton’s main target is an 11 year vet with 9000+yards in his career (Steve Smith) while Dalton is throwing to fellow rookie, AJ Green…who by the way leads all rookies recievers with 165 yards.
Just wanted to make sure the facts were represented.

I agree the Saints are pretty good, just not as good as the New England Patriots right now, sorry. Should be Packers #1 and Pats #2, I mean come on seriously Tom Brady is rolling right now, and the Pats young defense is showing they can make plays. They stopped Rivers on 4th and goal and destroyed Tolbert a few times. I bet if the Saints pulled that off they’d be first overall, but the Saints second in the power rankings that’s just a little silly.

Saints fan, and I would love to find a reason why the Saints should be listed ahead of the Patriots but I can’t.

The only explanation I can come up with is the Patriots beat up on the sorry Dolphins and a Chargers squad that is typically discombobulated this time of year. Other than that, Saints and Patriots are roughly dead even.
