The Broncos signed one player on Tuesday, but they passed on a chance to sign veteran safety Darren Sharper.

Sharper worked out for the team, but left without signing a contract. According to Lindsay Jones of the Denver Post, the visit was more about seeing where Sharper was physically than a serious tryout for a job. The Broncos have been ravaged by injuries this season, but the safety group of Brian Dawkins, Rahim Moore, David Bruton and Quinton Carter have been able to avoid the trainer thus far.

Sharper played for Broncos defensive coordinator Dennis Allen the last two years when Allen was the defensive backs coach in New Orleans, which would seem to make it a good spot for the 35-year-old to continue his NFL career. But the Broncos passed and it is getting harder to see a place where Sharper is going to land. The effect of microfracture surgery and Sharper’s clear drop in play last season have made him a tough sell.
