1985 Bears will finally visit the White House

dabearsRESIZE AP

President Barack Obama didn’t have an opportunity to welcome the 2010 Bears to the White House this year, given that the Bears lost to the Packers in the NFC title game.

But Obama has a consolation prize.  He’ll host the 1985 Bears, 26 years after they won the Super Bowl with one of the best defenses in NFL history.

According to David Kaplan of CSNChicago.com, the ’85 Bears will visit the White House on October 7.

Per Kaplan, most of the members of the team and some members of the coaching staff and front office are expected to attend.

Kaplan says that the Bears did not visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl.  When quarterback Jim McMahon won his second Super Bowl as a member of the 1996 Packers, he reportedly wore his Bears jersey to the White House.

Perhaps the bigger question is whether McMahon also wore pants.

Ronald Reagan hasn’t responded to his invitation yet. Wife Nancy says he has been very forgetful these past few years and his stem cell count is low.

Haha he couldn’t get the modern day Bears because the Pack took care of that so he had to resort to this. Shouldn’t he be worried about the economy?

This is right at the top of my list of things that need to be done to move the country in the right direction. Right at the top. This is very, very important.

He’s having a state dinner for the ’85 Bears with all the best china. He only let the Packers show up for a photo op if they agreed to mow the lawn before they left.

  10. jimmypopnl says: Sep 21, 2011 7:35 PM

…and Obama stabs Jay Cutler in the back again. He knows the current Bears wont reach the White House while he is president.

  11. jojopuppyfish says: Sep 21, 2011 7:37 PM

The reason they did not visit the white house back in 1986 (1985 season, super bowl was in Jan of 1986) was because the Space Shuttle blew a few days they were suppose to visit.
They canceled the visit and never rescheduled.
Obviously since Obama is a bears fan and saw an opportunity which, as a long time Bears fan, is well deserved.

  12. herkulease says: Sep 21, 2011 7:41 PM

They did not visit in 1986 due the Challenger explosion, that occurred a few days after the Superbowl.

  13. 504in860 says: Sep 21, 2011 7:44 PM

Well there you go. Bears fans are still holding onto 1985 for dear life, so why not?

  14. krashie21 says: Sep 21, 2011 7:44 PM

Maybe it’s his idea of “campaigning”……..

Perhaps, he’ll overturn the Steelers win against the Seahawks after what the referees did.

Maybe he’ll return Babe Ruth back to the Red Sox too???

In no way should this diminish that great Bears team, but it’s very, very, strange.

That team was a team for the ages, a truly special team the likes we’ll never see again.

They weren’t just great, they spewed charisma and they had Iron Mike and Buddy Ryan too.

If you were around to see them, you’d never ever forget them, that’s how special they were.

Hats off to the 85′ Bears.

You able to wipe your ass and breathe at the same time? Multitasking is a bitch, ain’t it?

The 2003 Bucs never got a White House visit, either. The NFL honored them by sending them to Philly for the opening of the new park, which they treated just as kindly as the closing of the last one.

President Obama is doing it, so what. Good for the Bears that didn’t get a chance to go. To the haters, hate all you want, you can’t stop it from happening.

  33. abninf says: Sep 21, 2011 9:37 PM

The bar for “do nothing presidency” has hit a new low.

Look, the Bears were a great team… 26 years ago. That’s why this is bizarre. To anyone howling about Dubya going on vacation, had he brought the 1977 Dallas Cowboys to the White House, you would be screaming for his impeachment & there’d be a 9-part Ken Burns documentary about it.

Both of those guys should have done, and should be doing, a better job managing the fed gov’t.

  52. kevpft says: Sep 22, 2011 1:09 AM

You guys taking jabs at the President are pathetic. First, the Previous Occupant took vastly more vacation time, and by the way, he’s the one responsible for trashing our economy by starting two wars.

But apart from that, you’d be cheering this move if it was anyone but a black Democratic President, and you know it. If you were in his shoes and had the chance to do this, you’d do it in a heartbeat, and you know it. Which makes you just a bunch of lazy, stupid hypocrites.

So go back to curling up next to your AM radio with Hannity and Beck, and leave the real thinking to the grownups, mmkay? The President, the Bears, and everyone else there – including the wife and children of the man you so bravely mock behind your screen names – is going to have a great time, while you bitter slobs glower over your keyboards and track your fantasy teams.

I call out a blogger and said that his lack of research of the simple facts makes him look like a D—A–, it gets deleted, on another blog I say “I think I am in love” and THAT gets deleted, but this board gets riddled with all this polical hate speach and it gets to stay.

I guess the quality of monitoring on here matches the quality of the blogs that they try to qualify as “news”.

It’s a good thing that the Bears are going to the White House now, even if it is for a championship from 25 years ago. The reason it is a good thing that they go now, is because that is the only way a Bears team is going to get there. There have been 45 Super Bowls and the Bears have 1. Enjoy the trip and take pictures so you can share them with Cutler and Lovie.

  63. joesr2043 says: Sep 23, 2011 2:52 AM
