DeAngelo Hall says he’ll target Tony Romo’s ribs

New York Giants v Washington Redskins Getty Images

With Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo intending to play on Monday night despite having a busted rib, Redskins cornerback DeAngelo Hall intends to try to bust them some more.

“I want to get a chance to put my helmet on whatever’s hurt,” Hall said, per the Washington Post. “Romo’s ribs — I’m going to be asking for some corner blitzes.  If I know Felix Jones’ shoulder’s hurt, I’m not going to cut him.  I’m definitely going to try to hit him up high, so that’s just part of it.

“If you know something’s wrong with an opponent, you’re going to try to target in on that.  We’re going to try to definitely get as many hats on that team as possible.”

Hall isn’t saying anything that football players don’t already think.  Especially at the quarterback position, any opportunity to knock the starter out of the game should be embraced.

But when it comes to putting a helmet on Romo’s ribs, Hall should be careful not to do it when Romo is in the act of throwing a pass, or when he has just thrown a pass.  Under the rules, Romo is defenseless at those times, and he can’t be hit in the helmet or with a helmet.

But if Romo decides to run the ball, Hall can put a helmet onto anything that hurts — or anything that doesn’t hurt, yet.

Meanwhile, Romo talked about the injury during a taping of Showtime’s Inside the NFL, via John Machota of the Dallas Morning News.  “On the rib side, just breathing, sometimes, is harder than I want it to be,” Romo said. “I know that. . . .  If it’s a pain related thing, it sucks but you can usually play.  Either you can go out and move around or you can’t.  If it’s an in-between thing, usually you end up playing.  It’s football season and usually football players play football during football season.”

Owner Jerry Jones has said something similar — that it all comes down to Romo’s ability to handle pain.  And usually football players find a way to handle pain.

Uh Oh, I sense an unessecary roughness call happening at a key time in the game. Be careful Hall….Please.

On another note, Orakpo and Kerrigan just ordered a double side of ribs at Prime Steakhouse in Dallas. Flipped their car over like Fred Flintstone.

At least he’s honest! He’s a dumby, but at least he’s honest! Targeting the injured body parts of opposing players has been around since the beginning of the NFL. Deal with it Tony. Show the NFL how tough you think you really are!

So this is probably OK to go out and intentionally TRY to hurt someone, because “that’s football”.

In case you dont know, in 6 years of starting only 1 illegal hit on Romo has been called, he is targeted all the time(2009 K.C. game, safety goes helmet to helmet busting open Romo’s chin and no call) the examples go on and on.

The moral of this story is Romo gets hit and the refs look the other way, why would this game be any different.

At least Deion could cover somebody….Hall hasn’t done that since his first couple years

  38. philgrek says: Sep 21, 2011 6:55 PM

This is a terrible attitude. What Hall is declaring is that he has so little faith in himself and his team to actually go out, implement their scheme and stop Romo, they’re just gonna see if they get him out of the game so they don’t have to try so hard. I’m not saying that the injured area should be avoided, but when your first comment about a game is your intentions to target injured areas, it speaks volumes about the level of skill in the player(s).

I for one, am a fan who doesn’t want my team to pile up wins on the account of playing teams at their worst. I’d like to know my team is winning games because they themselves are a good team. I’d rather be the team who ran the gauntlet and exhibited toughness and talent, than one who succeeded by playing 2nd string scrubs whenever available.

Thankfully, I am not a fan of the Redskins, nor DeAngelo Hall. And for good reason.

Of course, we’ll probably see Hall so focused on those ribs that he gets burned for 2 or three touchdown by some unknown receiver.. That sounds more like the DeAngelo I know.

  51. dallasisbetter says: Sep 21, 2011 7:28 PM

As if anyone is afraid of DeAngelo Hall. This is not some real tough guy we are talking about here. Moving on.

What the deadskins should be focused on is the defense that actually hits the QB more than any other defense. Your QB Rex who would be a backup on any other team is likely going to have to worry about some pain himself. Heck you might even have to put in your other career backup to replace him.

As many of you can say it and do it, and say “everyone is doing it”, as you like. Doesn’t change the reality of what you are, only shows how many of you there are.
The cheaters are the cowards and losers.
It’s the guy who can’t win, straight up, who cheats. Or who’s afraid to try to win straight up, who cheats. Or who’s just a bully in the first place, who cheats.
    All cowards. Without exception.
I’ll whip your ass and break your back playing clean and hard, and you’re not good enough to do that, or big enough to take it. And that’s why you cheat.
You might have the power to win that way, but even when you do, you’re nothing. And that voice inside of you right now is telling you how right I am.

Hall is a punk always has been. He is the one that hurt Vick’s ribs the first time. It was on purpose he goes in with the crown of his helmet and trys to hit where there is no protection. He attempted to do it again to Vick at a later date but Vick was ready and speeded thru before Hall could get him Hall is a punk he went to school with Vick and would intentionally hurt him. He also was fighting for the same girl with Kevin Jones so obviously this Hall guy is a ruthless gangsta type. Karma comes back and Hall will have to answer to God and I am sure he does every day. Hall is just an idiot and now the league is ready to watch for his bogus crown of the helmet hits on ribs he targets all quarterbacks with the intent to injure which is not right. Crown of the helmet hits are illegal and unsafe for the defender and he launches himself as he does it. Atlanta did the right thing getting rid of the punk Hall but Shanahan likes people like that because him and Deangelo are two peas from that same pod.

    Targeting an injured player?

    THE PATRIOTS ARE CHEATERS!!!!!

Oh wait, I’m a Pats fan. Stimulus –> Response.

    Sorry.

    ===========================

This is the most intelligent, clever, and thought provoking comment Cowboy fans are able to come up with.

FIRST place bitches, FIRST place. quit whinning cowgirls, D-HALL will get a sack/pick. cant tackle?cant cover? do you idiots watch football? if you’re a corner in the nfl you’ve gotten beat before, d hall is one of the bettet cb in the league in case you’ve been living in a f*&%in’ tumbleweed. sorry if i offended cgirl fans with tumbleweed comment. i gotta go to bed so stop posting ignorant comments now, and oh yeah, hail bitches, HAIL.

  100. painterdude says: Sep 21, 2011 11:55 PM

Since when has this ballerina hit anybody? Rob Ryan cut this guy in Oakland because he was afraid to hit or tackle.

Hey Deangalo don’t write a check your %*><;(: can't cash!

  101. davidgq says: Sep 22, 2011 12:00 AM

All the Cowgirl fans in DC can’t even name 5 players on the team. Never been to Dallas. What a joke.

Cowboys should be 0- 2 but that’s ok. After Skins and Lions they will be 1-3 and faces the Patriots. Oopps – 1- 4 then. Then again, the only team that they will win for the rest of the season is Seattle. You will be in Luck Sweepstake this year.

How can you give 27 points to Sanchez and 24 points to Alex FREAKIN Smith?

Sexy Rexy will beat those 2 combined !!!!

  102. bleedgreen80 says: Sep 22, 2011 12:00 AM

i see its alot of keyboard cowards in here what did the guy say wrong all these hall is a punk and all this other crap would you say it to him if u seen him in person? i doubt it smh

  103. nj22 says: Sep 22, 2011 12:11 AM

I have to say in the history of the NFL, aside from maybe Freddie Mitchell, Deanga-Blow has to have the pound for pound worst skills / trash talk ratio! He will be lucky to not get cut after what Dez will be doing to him. He should focus on his next career, not Romo’s ribs.

  104. kevpft says: Sep 22, 2011 1:02 AM

Thing like this make me question why I’m still watching football.

  105. devrocks247 says: Sep 22, 2011 1:24 AM

So, on average, how many times per game does a cornerback get the opportunity to sack the QB? Seriously. I mean, it does happen, but really. It’s nice to talk tough about hurting somebody and targeting their injury, but this is a guy who’s been credited with two HALF-SACKS in his entire career.

So, he gets half a sack every four years or so. Maybe he’s due. But THIS is trash talk? If I were Tony Romo, I’d be hoping and praying that DeAngelo Hall were targeting my ribs. It might make it easier to complete some passes downfield.

  106. redrifle14 says: Sep 22, 2011 1:54 AM

Stay classy Redskins. Maybe comments like this are one of the many many reasons why you are NOT America’s team….

  107. dafranchize says: Sep 22, 2011 3:00 AM

DeAngelo Hall is the most irrelevant Pro Bowl player to ever make it to Hawaii since Vine Young went his rookie year.

Nobody thinks this guy is any good except for him of course.

When Al Davis cuts you, then you know you’re bad.

  108. halkim says: Sep 22, 2011 3:02 AM

It’s time for the Cowboys D to look through the Redskins injury report.

  109. blackqbwhiterb says: Sep 22, 2011 4:05 AM

Two problems here….1) if Hall corner blitzes, that leaves Reed Doughty covering man to man. Dallas touchdown all day long. 2)Carlos Rogers never would have let Larry Fitzgerald get 10 yards past him all alone….3) just to be a smart a**, I’ll give you a third point- Hall has always had too much mouth and not enough brain, and I’m the biggest Redskins homer ever and even I can’t stand him!

  110. mhs8031 says: Sep 22, 2011 4:33 AM

Did not know Romo invited Hall to his cookout.

  111. primetimetto says: Sep 22, 2011 7:48 AM

Wanted to say what’s up to all the Cowboy fans around the tri area, DC area and surrounding Maryland areas. It must feel good to see all those Cowboys jersey walking. It’s kinda like when the Boys went into San Fran and hear all those Cowboy fans scream and chant on national TV!

  112. primetimetto says: Sep 22, 2011 8:13 AM

Eugene Hall your 31? Been to 3 Pro Bowls one by default. The only thing you hurt was Snyder wallet. I’m guessing you will be
Gone this year or next. Mark you down as bust 1st round pick, 1 yr in Oakland and cut! How do you get cut
    In Oakland?

  113. hoggy301 says: Sep 22, 2011 8:58 AM

Dallas fans are so funny!!! They love our blogs more than their own… They talk about D.Hall, but last I remember T.Newman can get his a$$ toasted with the best of them!!! Ask Santana Moss. Now shut your Country A$$es up, and Hail bi+ce$!!!

  114. orakpownd says: Sep 22, 2011 10:36 AM

Sorry Big D…you are about to get ownd.

At least Deion could cover somebody….Hall hasn’t done that since his first couple years
    ——————————————–
You mean besides the entire field against Jay Cutler and the Bears last year? It was a great game, but I don’t think that 1 game should have put him in the Pro’s Don’t show up Bowl.

It’s cheap football to attack an injured player, but it’s also smart.

Does anyone else think the only reason there is an injury report is because of Vegas? Quite hyporcitical of the NFL since they claim to want to distance themselves from gambling (Rooneys a few years ago). It would be beneficial for each team not to disclose injuries so other teams would have to prepare to play against everyone. It would also remove much of the players ability to target injured areas.

  116. dikshuttle says: Sep 22, 2011 12:22 PM

Kudos DHall for telling it like it is.

I’d even venture that trading the penalty for the hit would be worth it.

This is football. This game takes your LIFE. That’s why we all watch it. Otherwise, go watch track & gymnastics.

  117. ruvelligwebuike says: Sep 22, 2011 1:53 PM

Michael Richards of “Seinfeld” fame added his two cents about guys like DeAngelo in a comedy routine…

  118. fantom21 says: Sep 22, 2011 3:30 PM

Those of you who think that DHall can’t tackle or cover need to stop thinking of the DHall of old and actually watch this guy play. Im glad the Skins Cowboys game will be on primetime so that the country can see just how good Hall actually is. D Hall can finally silence his haters. And by the way… Skins fans LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the way he plays!!!!

  119. elpasomike13 says: Sep 22, 2011 3:46 PM

Hall is no fool. He’s trying to bait the Cowboys into mistakes, like wasting blockers on corner blitzes that never come and roughing him up at a cost of 15 yards per pop.

Will the Boys fall for it? Could be. Their fans certainly have.

  120. rolli1967 says: Sep 22, 2011 4:46 PM

Not a fan of either team, but the Foreskins are still the Foreskins (regardless of their fluky 2-0 record against garbage teams). Look for Romo and the Cowboys to destroy the Foreskins and target Hall in process.

  121. southbeachtalent says: Sep 22, 2011 4:47 PM

Hall has never sacked anyone in the NFL. He has three- 1/2 sacks in his career. Not 3.5, 3 half sacks bringing the grand total of sacks to 1.5.

    hahahahahaha

  122. grog79 says: Sep 26, 2011 1:32 AM

Important mention for all the bandwagon dallas fans out there.
    Hall
G GS Comb Total Ast Sck SFTY PDef Int Yds Avg Lng TDs FF
    2011 Washington Redskins 2 2 10 5 5 0.0 – 2 – – 0.0 – – 0
    2010 Washington Redskins 16 16 95 65 30 0.0 0 16 6 92 15.3 92T 1 2

    Newman
    2011 Dallas Cowboys 0 0 0 – – – – – – – 0.0 – – –
    2010 Dallas Cowboys 16 16 79 77 2 0.0 – 9 5 16 3.2 30 0 0

Talk smack all you want but only when you have at least 1 DB worth mentioning. While Ware is a straight up beast, Jenkins and Newman are laughable at best.
Talk to the numbers and I will spare you from a full side by side comparison of our retrospective DBs. You’re welcome

  123. mcl5000 says: Sep 26, 2011 12:24 PM

    grog –

Huh? I don’t think a single person in here said that the Cowboys have good DBs. Everybody knows it’s the weakest part of the team. The difference is that Jenkins and Newman didn’t make any comments to put them in the spotlight this week, or people would be talking about how much they suck too.

    Thank you..?
