"The Lions have to hold, trip and even fake injuries to ensure Stafford stays on the field. It’s a damn shame Barry Sanders didn’t have this guy at QB."

spoken like a true, informed fan
not so much really
Suh has the reputation of being dirty and so now the ENTIRE TEAM is dirty???
oh how i missed these days when the Detroit Lions were good enough to get moronic attacks like this!

But don’t blame Stafford when he goes down. It’s not his fault. Hell, don’t even blame Backus. He knows he is in over his head. Blame the Lions organization for drafting (another) DT, and (another) WR, and (another) RB, etc. instead of protecting their franchise QB.
Just think: they could have Michael Oher blocking for Stafford. Instead they traded up for Brandon “I’m not even the best TE on the team” Pettigrew.

um last i looked, Pettigrew set records for recieving yards for a Lions tight end (a group that includes the great Hall of Famer Charlie Sanders) last year

and we drafed MUCH needed depth with Titus Young, Mikel Lashoure and Fairley.
maybe....just MAYBE get your sh*t straight before mouthing off about something

———————–

Actually they didn’t trade up. We gained a 1st 3rd and 6th round pick from the cowboys for roy williams.

Pettigrew is actually really good at blocking and recieving.

And he was drafted to actually help Backus. Which he has.

And stafford has shown that he can be surgical on a defense without CJ as well

***************************************
Why do you say "we" when referring to the Lions..are you on the team?

As a life long Lions' fan (27). I'm pretty sure all of us fans realize that Jeff Backus has been very average for quite some time. He does get lite up by superior defensive ends in this league. He might even get a little to much love for the fact that he is a University of Michigan Alum. Until he is replaced, it will continue to be risky when our beloved Mr. Stafford drops back. Take care fellas.

Stafford hasn't been sacked, but he's thrown bad passes when he should have eaten the ball. In both games this season, Stafford threw very rookie-looking interceptions because he got rattled by the pass rush.

That being said, most of the time he had plenty of time and he throws missiles. I think part of the problems the Chiefs had last week was Cassell wanted to show he can play like Stafford, but just doesn't have the arm.

Anyway, the Lions will need to slow down the Vikings rush or Stafford will take some heat. I'd rather see Stafford take the sack than throw the pick.

WOW! An astute observation! Did you come up with that all by yourself??? Thats like saying that Peyton Manning wouldn't be the QB he is NOW, had it not been for Marvin Harrison? That is beyond dumb. With that logic than even Hill and Stanton will be the 4th best QB rating in the league? Have you watched a single game, Stafford fits passes in windows that are as small as the ball. Nobody has ever said Stafford doesn't have the number#1 pick kind of talent, he just hasn't been able to stay healthy.

Backus is going to get Stafford killed one of these days. Look no further than Julius Peppers abusing him and essentially ending the Lions season last year in week one. I don't care if Peppers is an all-decade DE. He made Backus look like a JV backup.

But don't blame Stafford when he goes down. It's not his fault. Hell, don't even blame Backus. He knows he is in over his head. Blame the Lions organization for drafting (another) DT, and (another) WR, and (another) RB, etc. instead of protecting their franchise QB.

Just think: they could have Michael Oher blocking for Stafford. Instead they traded up for Brandon "I'm not even the best TE on the team" Pettigrew.

I was at the game, I noticed that too. I'm not one of these fans that always comes down on Backus, but he didn't look good last week. And with Jared Allen, Julius Peppers, Clay Matthews, Patrick Willis, and the New Orleans blitzing D coming up soon, this needs to be addressed!!!

So coming off an injury, he allowed some QB hits but no sacks to a Pro Bowl end who netted 14.5 sacks last year, and is getting criticized for it. How many TD's did Stafford throw in that game, and how many injuries did he sustain? 4 and 0. Guess you gotta hate on somebody for something, right?
