Two Bengals caught up in marijuana mess

AP

Bengals receiver Jerome Simpson and Bengals offensive lineman Anthony Collins were detained Tuesday after 2.5 pounds of marijuana arrived at Simpson’s home.

According to Janice Morse and Joe Reedy of the Cincinnati Enquirer, both players were present when Aleen Smith, 27, accepted the package.

Per the report, another six pounds of marijuana were found in Simpson’s home, along with “packaging materials, scales and smoking devices.”

Authorities reportedly suspect that Simpson’s house was set up as a “potential distribution network,” and that marijuana was indeed being distributed from the residence.

Neither player has been arrested, yet.  Both participated in practice on Wednesday.  Per the Enquirer, Bengals spokesman Jack Brennan said the team was aware of the reports, but Brennan offered no other comments.

  1. That kid spent three seasons struggling for a chance, and now he’s going to flush it all down the toilet… Some people just can’t get out of their own way.

  2. Legalize Marijuana its A Natural Plant, cultivated by many different civilizations through human history..when its processed it becomes different things, but its Safer for you than Alcohol and Cigarettes…Legalize Marijuana dont just decriminalize, legalize the whole way because its Gods Natural Plant each Day, and it helps many people in so many ways.

  3. Jesus….Idiots.

I also read the police were saying it was being set up as a receiving/distribution center. At least we know the Bungholes won’t cut them 😦

  4. just legalize it and we won’t have to deal with all silliness of it all-your neighbor, the guy who fixes your car, the sports announcer, the old lady down the street with the lovely garden, your kids teacher, et al could all be toking up from time to time-so let’s not have a hissy fit every time some athlete uses it. Make it legal, tax it and you won’t have people selling it on the side. It’s OK for a player to enjoy a few drinks but it’s not OK to use something less harmful?

  5. Idiots. Just idiots. You have a pro career … and yet, you aren’t smart enough to make sure that much weed isn’t in your house? Morons. I liked the talent of both Collins and Simpson, but seriously, they aren’t good enough to keep around for this type of stupidity.

  6. Just a misunderstanding. They both need $ 25,000 worth of Maryjane for their glaucoma. 6.5 pounds is only a 90 day supply for both guys. NFL would not notice this trace amount in blood stream with the “current” random testing process. And the scales are for measuring proper daily dosage.

The cops must have been curious when the saw the package was certified USPS mail from sender “Cannabis247.com”.

This will blow over and was a big misunderstanding. Both player should start on Sunday.

    WTF?????????????
Can someone explain how this is possible??…how are they not arrested?? is it legal to have “Pounds of Marijuana in Cincy”?

  8. 6.5 lbs of smoke?

Coach Lewis, Rodger Goodell has sent two tickets for J Simpson and A Collins to come visit with him at the NFL offices in NY.

  9. Is it worse than having an Uncle Diddles at QB like the Steelers or a stab happy linebacker like the Ravens?

  10. Sell weed or get paid millions to play a kids game? “I’ll take B for – No Time Served – Alex.”

  11. WOW! I thought they were past this… Unreal… Both of these guys were regarded as high character guys I guess they truly were HIGH characters… So down 2 receivers in 2 weeks gonna be tough to replace em both..

  12. Hilarious. You got time to sling POUNDS of weed in season. Pounds? Delivered? How was it delivered I wonder? This is a big felony. At least these guys already know what they look like in stripes! 🙂 Haaaaaa!

  13. I just don’t understand how they’re not in jail right now. If the average joe got caught with that much would they be allowed to stay out of jail until sentencing?

And what idiots…..risk it all for some dope.

At the end of the day you can take the kid out of the ghetto but you can’t take the ghetto out of the kid.

  14. Somewhere, Nate Newton is laughing his a$$ off…..2.5 pounds, hell he has sprinked that over a stack of pancakes……

  15. Wow… sooooo 8.5 pounds of pot at Simpson’s home… and no arrests?

If he was Jerome “the Bus Driver with the big head” Simpson (Chris Rock reference), he would be in jail for 20 years for felony posession, intent to distribute, and using the mail as a distribution channel… among many many many other counts…

I recently read an article that the Bengals had cleared up their image a bit… welp, back to the drawing board…

Are any football teams in Ohio legit law abiding citizens? I submit there is NOT.

  16. This crap is funny, you couldnt make this stuff up..Amazing, that Mike Brown continues to sign these idiots. I guess that s what you get when you have the worst Scouting Dept in the NFL and are known for having the worst franchise in all of Professional sports.

I am a cop, I worked narcotics for 13 years..Let me enlighten the one who asked how they were not arrested…

Can you say SNITCH….I would bet that they are cooperating against the people out west or one of their HOMIES has come forward and has told the police that Simpson and Collins didnt know that he/she was using the address to get weed.

Marvin Lewis is an idiot..He had the chance to leave Cincy and chose to stay..WTH…

  17. Honestly, just LOOK at the police blogger or obituaries involving the Bengals over the past five years – how is Marvin Lewis still coaching in the NFL?

  18. Bad enough an NFL player is around weed, especially during the season, but this moron was SELLING it???? Over EIGHT POUNDS of it????? How are you an NFL player and need to moonlight as a drug dealer?

And to make this even more of a joke, of course he’s a Bengal’s player.

    Defend THIS one, Bengals fans.

    Does NOTHING embarrass that organization?

  19. Damn media never gets the important details. Was it “Trainwreck”, “Diesel”, “White Widow”, or did they develop a totally new strain called “Bungle Buds”?

  20. @berniemadoffsides:

Look deeper Marvin had a chance to leave and stayed…Its not his doing. Mike Brown controls everything within that franchise. Lewis succeeded everywhere he went until he came to Cincy.

Lewis has 0 control over who he drafts. All Mike Brown wants is anything cheap. In the draft cheap sometimes means character flaws. That why that police blog is so long.

As far as mentioning the obituary thats just absurd…let Slim RIP.

  21. Whether it should be legal or not, less harmful than alcohol or not….

It’s ILLEGAL now, and why on earth would you risk you NFL…NFL…NFL career and paydays.

That does epitomize stupidity. They should be sent to jail and suspended w/o pay for the stupidity of it all.

  22. So, in Ohio they don’t even bother to arrest you when you are clearly distributing from your home? And the Bengals don’t even bother to take any action about it? No wonder this is the worst franchise in the history of the NFL!!

  23. @driftwood – if I could give you 100 thumbs up on the OchoKilo joke I would…that was too funny.

Will be interesting to see how Marvin handles this issue and how Mikey handles Marvin handling the issue. Marvin kicked Chris Henry off the team a few years back, only to have Mikey hire him back without Marv’s consent. Talk about dysfunctional management.

If Simpson keeps up the personal life idiocy, he’s going to be a bitter middle aged man giving speeches to junior high kids on the folly of smoking dope.

  24. You don’t make a lot of money selling pot. What the hell are these idiots even thinking. Don’t they have the medical in Ohio? Morons.

Just picked him up on my fantasy team yesterday

    *******************************************
You picked him up yesterday? Must be a REAL good team you have there.

Aside from AJ Green and Cedric Benson as an RB3, nobody in our 12 man league even has a Bengal on the roster.

Are you dealing with a lot of injuries or are you just from Cleveland?

It will be even more interesting to see how many games Roger (The Hammer) Goodell suspends them for. If a tatoo and some pocket cash is worth a 5 game suspension then what is 8 pounds of smoke worth.

Maybe Roger will suspend them by the pound.
    1 Pound = 2 Games ???

That is the best comment i have seen on PFT this year, or any other board for that matter…bwaaaaah

  28. If only these two youngsters had been shown the dockumentary film “Reefer Madness” in school, they may have been spared from the perils of the marijuana addict.

  29. If I have to read one more comment saying “if it was just legalized, there wouldn’t be an issue”, I’m going to snap.

It’s illegal….he broke some hefty laws…get the f**k over it.

  30. Huh, that’s weird. I figured when they said two Bengals, it would be Mike Nugent and Andy Dalton. They seem like guys who would distribute bud through the mail despite making millions of dollars working 6 months a year.

  31. Ochokilo…hahahahahahaha…very funny
Actually, this is Aleen Smith’s house
and both players were there to pick up some loose joints…lol….
