-----------------------------------------------
Heard of HIPAA? Some things need to remain between players and doctors. Goodell is intrusive enough. What ... now you want him suspending players for taking Ibuprofen? Or are you going to specify painkillers? Does that mean Harvin can't take a painkiller and play with a migraine? This banned-substance issue is getting ridiculous.

I don't think comparing the NFL to the Olympics is comparing apples to apples. American football is not part of the Olympics for a reason.

I agree that giving a player painkillers and putting him back on the field is probably not good for the overall player's health, but it is what it is. They are plenty of jobs in this world that endanger workers. If you don't like it, get a desk job. Violence is an integral part of football.

Since any player can take painkillers at any time without violating league rules, there is no competitive advantage. If there was, then every player would be taking painkillers before every game. And maybe they are, but the playing field is still level, as it were.

Should they ban braces, too? A player wearing a brace "has an unfair benefit that helps him play better than his normal self".

At some point, a line must be drawn. Painkillers are ubiquitous in this country. How many people do you know who are taking HGH?

@bluemist

That is not the point.

If I took steroids & HGH it would not give me a competitive advatage over an NFL player.

But I would still be banned from playing.

Clearly Romo's performance in the 2nd half of the game was enhanced by the drugs he took at half time beacuse he did not feel pain when he threw the ball.

Drugs enhanced his performance. Drugs enabled the win.

So they should be banned during games.
