Jerome Simpson is active for the Cincinnati Bengals’ game today despite missing practice during the week amid an investigation into the delivery of 2.5 pounds of marijuana to his house and the discovery of six more pounds of marijuana inside his house.
“Jerome Simpson resumed team activities Friday afternoon and after evaluating his readiness, the coaching staff has determined he will be active for today’s game,” the team said in a statement.
But Simpson, who started the first two games of the season for the Bengals, won’t start today, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Teams frequently take players out of the starting lineup after they’ve been in off-field trouble, even though technically it’s supposed to be up to the league -- not the team -- to enforce discipline under the personal conduct policy. Last year Tennessee’s Kenny Britt had a huge game after being benched for the first quarter after an off-field incident.
We’ll see today whether Simpson’s head is in the game after a week when his attention was focused elsewhere.
