Stevie Johnson: Bills will “bring it” against the Patriots

AP

With the Bills surprisingly 2-0 behind a high-powered offense, and the Patriots unsurprisingly 2-0 behind a high-powered offense, Buffalo receiver Stevie Johnson is telling the Patriots that when the two teams meet today, New England’s defense better be ready.

I’m expecting a shootout,” Johnson said. “I can’t really speak for our defense. I’m just saying we have to put up numbers. If it is going to be a shootout, we have to be ready for it on the offensive side. We gotta bring it.”

To which the Patriots might reply, “Oh, it’s already been broughten.”

The Bills are the highest-scoring team in the league through two games, with 79 points, and the Patriots are No. 3, having scored 73 points. So it seems likely that a whole lot of points will be put up on Sunday.

But it’s telling that even though the Bills are 2-0, the highest-scoring team in the league, and at home on Sunday, the Patriots are favored by a touchdown. The betting public isn’t confident that the Bills will bring it. It’s Johnson’s job to prove everyone wrong.

  1. Why wouldn’t they bring it? Do they occasionally forget to bring it? I know it’s the Bills, but you shouldn’t have to say you’re going to bring it.

  2. the betting public isnt thinking the bills will bring it?
the line started at 9.5 and is down to a touchdown, that says the betting publi actually does think the bills will bring it. the more people bet on the bills the more the line makers try to make the ne bet more appealing

  3. Yeah, the Patriots are horrified this guy is going to “bring it” with a pulled groin and their slot receiver going on IR. What, is the TE going to catch 5 TDs? Don’t think so. Not worried in the slightest. Oh yeah… didn’t the Bills pass defense make Jason Campbell (yeah, that Jason Campbell) look like an All-Pro last weekend? Yup, I think they did. This will be a pummeling (make that 16 in a row) of the Bills.

  4. The Bill defense will have to “bring it”, or Tom Brady is going to “bring 50” on the scoreboard. They cannot trade possessions and hope to out last New England. Too many weapons and they can fast break with the best of them. It will come down to who turns it over, and im betting its Fitzpatrick, not Brady.

But, 15 straight wins….Buff is due about now.

  5. KCWolf, get over it. It was a football play and unfortunately there was an injury. Those blocks happen in every game.

  6. They had better “bring it.” With an extraordinarily loud Ralph Wilson Stadium, and fifteen Patriots players on the injury report with two more on IR, today represents Buffalo’s best opportunity—given their surprisingly well-balanced offensive attack—to defeat New England in quite some time (eight years to be exact). That’s not making excuses. It’s stating facts.

  7. @kcwolf?!?! You must be pretty angry with the Lions mascot for taking out Charles too. Wah wah wah!!!! Even with Berry, we burnt down the Chiefs teepee…

  8. Marcell Dareus needs to bring it for the Bills to win. I keep thinking week in & week out the Bills need to prove they are different, this is going to be a season of proving, a win or a loss doesn’t necessarily mean they are different. Their play this year thus far is different and come December we will see if they were able to bring it all year long. Only week three. I think according to the Media if the Bills lose: “oh it’s those Bills again”.

  9. If its a shoot out, the pats will win. However, if the Bills can get a ground game going, and get concistent pressure on Brady, then this game will be close.27-24 Bills on a rian lidell fg.

  10. Little concerned about the injuries/players out and streak this week. I think this is Ochocinco’s breakout game .

Should be a good game, still early in the season.

The good thing is there is no such thing as “due”.

The only impact that history will have on this game will be if the players on either team let it get in their heads. Otherwise history has nothing to do with it.

  12. I’m not exactly sure what Jamaal Charles’ injury has to do with this. And yes the “block” on Berry was completely legal. Just because something is within the rules doesn’t mean it isn’t a cheap shot. How about you check out a previous play from Stevie. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yM05fSk-Wek

Man he sure seeems upset for a play that happens all the time in football.

Thanks for the video. I never understood how Berry could have torn his ACL on the block from Stevie, but the video you posted is exactly and MCL and ACL and Meniscus tear! I never saw this video before, I guess that’s why Berry never got pissed at Stevie and everybody else did.

  14. The Bills might not be who they used to be. Maybe somebody else besides the Jets can beat the Patriots? The Dolphins still stink.

  15. @kcwolf

Its not a cheap shot if its within the rules of the game. Sucks Berry got hurt, but it wasnt Johnsons fault. Guys get chop blocked and hit low every play of every game.

  16. Nick Barnett just said on NFLN that he “loves the smell of an upset in the AM”.
Sometimes confidence it the thing that kicks a team over from being competitive (which the Bills usually are)to winners.
They always bring it against the Pats even when they’re not really that good. I expect them to play very hard and for it to be a big challenge for the Pats to win.

You mean kinda like how the Patriots defense gave up over 400 yards to Chad freaking Henne? SERIOUSLY? CHAD HENNE?!?!?!?!?

Ummmmm, they cannot compare. Moore received a penalty and a fine from his hit. His helmet clearly hit Jones’ helmet.

  19. There you go twisting things again.

Johnson’s quote said “we gotta bring it”, which is quite different than your headline, “Stevie Johnson: Bills will “bring it” against the Patriots.

I don’t think anyone would disagree with Johnson’s comment that the Bills “gotta bring it” if they are going to win. But I’m sure you have numerous negative comments with your MADE UP AND MISLEADING HEADLINE.

Seriously, you guys are out of control with that.

  20. Whats very clear is the score and stats:
    Bills – 124
    Patriots – 114

    Brady 1124 yards 16 tds
    Fitz 1482 yards 17tds

    Bank it fellas

Absolutely right. It comes down to who makes the most plays and most mistakes. As I said earlier, they cant trade possessions and win this game – they will have to force a couple of turnovers stay close, and out last them – not easy.

  22. Amen, slickster, but since Rodney Harrison no longer suits up for New England, Stevie will have to look elsewhere for the truckload of karma he is due.
