I think we're coming dangerously close to badmouthing Cris Carter here. After all, he was involved in mentoring and tutoring one of the Lions' young receivers back in the day, so he knows of which he speaks. Of course, that receiver was Mike Williams, and we can all say THAT experiment was an unqualified success, so there you are. Cris Carter knows receivers, people!

I know I'm a little late to this party, but I did some stat checking. Of the guys Carter mentioned, only one had more TDs in the last 4+ years(thats the previous 4 seasons, and the first 3 games this year). That's Fitzgerald. Also, Fitzgerald is the only one who had more yards and TDs his first 4 years in the league. Which btw, the last 4 years were CJ's FIRST 4 YEARS! And he's done all that on some horrible teams, including one that DIDN'T WIN A GAME. My point is, CJ has already displayed consistancy, with a revolving door of inconsistant QBs. I think it's going to get crazy with Stafford throwing frickin' laserbeams at him every game.

Who is Matt Staford again and what has he done.....I think he might want to shut his mouth and play ball......Granted i dont agree with Cris Carter's comments about megatron not being elite because he is, but this i do know for certain, Cris Carter is a top 5 all time great receiver. Michale Irvin couldnt carry Carter's jock strap his stats back that up. He will be in the HOF, not every one makes it the first try!. HE is BAR non the best boundary receiver EVER. HE had the best hands for a wide receiver EVER, youtube it if you like, most experts agree on this, so he does know what hes talking about most of the time, and if he played today he would be a top 5 receiver, lets see how many thumbs down i get and see how many ignornant people there are out there.

@ skoobyfl

Alright be a big boy and try and learn your facts. Try not to cry to hard as someone lays some real facts on you. Yes the Bills have scored alot of points but because they had to fight back and barely win on last second scores. Lets look at defence who has the better redzone defence between the Bills and Lions? The Lions. Who has less points aginst? The Lions. Who has a better turnover differential? The Lions. Oh and lets not forget this little fact. Who holds the NFL’s longest active winning streak? Lets see, at 7-0 (11-0 including preseason) is the , yup you guessed it, The Lions.

So why the Bills have got to 3-0, by the grace of the football gods, the Lions are the team to beat (between the two). They bot have great offences, but if the Bills meet the Detroit Defence, they will be exposed for the frauds they are.
----------------------------------------------------------
first things first. who cares that the lions went 4-0 in the preseason, they also went 4-0 then went 0-16. remember that? TO differential... 6-5 lions, but one of the Ints the bills had was in garbage time against the chiefs, (by brad smith). Longest win streak? who cares how they finished last season, that point is completely irrelevant. they are both 3-0 right now, thats all that matters. and the bills having to fight back? they came back against brady and the pats. brady is on pace to destroy marino's record. who have the lions beat? the bucs, vikings, chiefs? both teams destroyed them. the lions were getting killed by the vikings until they stopped running the ball, didnt they have to come back? the raiders game was back and forth, and the bills had the lead over the pats, then they tied, then the bills kicked the FG. your points are irrelevant

Carter wouldn’t be a top 20 receiver in todays NFL. I’d like to see Carter come out from behind his desk and say that to megatrons face.
_________________________________________________________________Don't get it twisted! While I agree that alot of the older players, including Cris Carter, talk crap & are often wrong, Carter was a man in his day! He could most definitely play the game! He didn't just talk the talk, as they say, he walked the walk! As for Calvin Johnson, he is for sure elite & can snag the ball!

Right. Because Megatron plays quarterback, cornerback, linebacker, d-lineman and special teams in addition to his wide receiver duties.

So why shouldn't he be considered elite?

It's still hilarious to listen to Mike Greenberg crawl all over his jock to ingratiate himself to "C. C." after being chewed out for disagreeing with him a year ago.

Having said that Johnson may not be "elite" in the sense of holding a single season or career record. But he has been ridiculously good and is on the cusp of elite.

1. Fitzgerald
2. Andre Johnson
3. Reggie wayne
4-6. Jennings, Welker, Megatron, in no particular order

Guess what. Rankings are subjective. He may not be top five on everyones list, get over it. What we really need to address is the incessant need to rank every freaking position all the time. Stop it with the rankings.

--------------------------------------------

seriously? alright first off, i went to school with greg jennings at K Central, and at Western and know him fairly well. My brother does lots of work with his charity group and fundraisers he holds. Fact is Jennings is a great WR, vastly underrated, but even he will tell you, he's not ahead of Calvin.

I'm sorry, Andre, Fitz, and Calvin (no particular order) are 1-3. That shouldn't even be a discussion. Nobody else has the combination of skill, and physical ability as these 3 combined to match proven results. Wayne?? maybe a couple years ago but he can't stretch the field.

from #4 down you can put a lot of names as they're all solid within their own abilities but they're all tough to compare because of the different skill sets. Andre, Fitz, and Calvin are legit #1 guys, they can do it all and have the physical size to dominate, unfortunately nobody else in the "second tier" have the combination of all those factors.

3. Reggie wayne
4-6. Jennings, Welker, Megatron, in no particular order

Guess what. Rankings are subjective. He may not be top five on everyones list, get over it. What we really need to address is the incessant need to rank every freaking position all the time. Stop it with the rankings.

——————————————–

seriously? alright first off, i went to school with greg jennings at K Central, and at Western and know him fairly well. My brother does lots of work with his charity group and fundraisers he holds. Fact is Jennings is a great WR, vastly underrated, but even he will tell you, he’s not ahead of Calvin.

Hate to say it Lions fans but Detroit will probably not make the playoffs. They'll go on some 6 or 7 game losing streak or Stafford will get knocked out for a large part of the season. They are cursed and Stafford just keep your mouth shut and play ball.

Cris how's that HOF induction working out for ya? Megatron is one of the sickest WR's i've ever seen play the game, and Blackmon coming out of Ok St. reminds me exactly of megatron at G Tech. Love if my Ravens could grab him but we'll have too low of a 1st rounder.

Recently Andre Johnson, who may be the best receiver in the league today, was asked who the best receiver in the league is. Without hesitation, he said "Calvin Johnson".

Carter should have his feet planted in dirt and get watered three times a week, because he's just that stupid.

Calvin is an elite receiver, just ask any CB that has to face him, and needs to have a safety over the top to make sure he doesn't get owned.

Folks - ESPN analysts aren't paid for expertise. They're paid and in turn, rewarded with more air time, for headline grabbing comments they make. And sometimes being told things that simply aren't true.

This is another non-story that's supposed to stir the pot for page hits. Here's what Carter said Tuesday morning: "Now, Calvin Johnson is playing the best football of his career. He's getting single coverage now and he's beating single coverage. They had double-coverage in the red zone. Him and Stafford have great chemistry together. He is playing at a top-5 level. But before this season, he wasn't better than the other four guys. He's starting to come into his own, which he should be. ... He should be coming into his prime and he's only going to get better. He's a phenomenal player."

Ok, I will be the "old man" here and speak the truth for you all. Cris Carter was a badass. Simple as that. You are an idiot if you try to dispute that. Try and quote that Berman BS of "all he does" etc if you choose, but that was Buddy Ryan covering for the man and his addictions when he was forced to cut him. Carter rebounded quite nicely in Minnesota if nobody took notice. He should be in the HOF without a doubt. Now, be realistic and look at what your little "megatron" did coming into this year. He fell far short of potential. Carter was correct, and he said what he said because Calvin should dominate. Because he is finally making big plays that matter doesn't make Carter wrong. Wake up people.
