Getty ImagesIt’s only been three weeks. The Titans have only played the Jaguars, Ravens, and Broncos.
With those disclaimers out of the way, Jerry Gray’s revamped Titans defense have been among the NFL’s early pleasant surprises. They rank first overall in yards allowed, and second in points allowed.
Losing line coach Jim Washburn hasn’t ruined their pass rush. The team’s pass defense has been among the best in the league.
Cortland Finnegan is playing like a Pro Bowler again with sticky coverage and big hits. Gray has moved Finnegan around more to great effect. The Titans have an underrated young cornerback duo in Jason McCourty and Alterraun Verner behind Finnegan.
The Titans remain a team that isn’t afraid to be physical. Last week, the Broncos called out Tennessee for “dirty” play last season. The two teams predictably proceeded to play a nasty game. McCourty joined PFT Live Tuesday to talk about it below.

Broncos were the dirty ones. See Britt.
How in the hell was Britts injury from a dirty play?
I agree, they are number one… They faced Maurice Jones Drew and Potent passing game of the Jaguars. Cleveland is making progress in its 10th year of rebuilding? Finally that loaded Baltimore Ravens team with all their talented recievers. They are going to destroy everyone with that loaded schedule they are playing…
Woo Hoo they stopped the donkeys and now they are going to disneyland!
the pressure hasnt even been that great but the secondary is dominating, hope they stay consistent unlike last year
32nd place in Rushing for the Titans as well.
Well, the Broncos offense is going to make a lot of people look good this year. Let’s wait a few more games.
I agree with u transam I think the broncos won the dirty play this yr…I didn’t see the game but I seen the britt hit looks like he was trying to hurt him went right for the knees…he’s a professional he should know how to tackle diving at some knees is not cool..I think hasslebeck even got into it with the guy that hit britt he must have thought it was dirty too
And the ravens are first in the league in scoring defense if we want to talk about stats that matter.
Defense wasn’t good enough to stop the lowly Jaguars LOL
That’s not a headline I expected to see. Detroit or Baltimore, yes … but the Titans? Wow.
I’d say Hasselbeck’s resurgence is a bigger surprise.

Not necessarily. He’s always had skill and a lot of heart. He plays well when he has the tools.
Geniuses. Britt injured his right knee. Moore hit Britt’s LEFT leg.
IMO … Britt’s injury looked more like an extra effort that ended awkwardly …
