Detroit looks to shut down mobile strip club outside Lions games

The chief of police in Detroit is looking to shut down the Booty Lounge, a bus that functions as a strip club outside Ford Field during Lions home games.

Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee Jr. said he doesn’t believe the Booty Lounge has the legal right to operate outside Lions games.

“Ostensibly, it’s an illegal establishment,” Godbee told the Detroit News. “The same thing that would regulate that type of activity in a strip club would be applicable to that vehicle. We’re going to police it very aggressively through our investigation. I’m appalled at this kind of conduct because we have families and children around. We need to make sure these events are fan-friendly for children and their families.”

The Booty Lounge hasn’t commented publicly since media reports on its operations — not to mention a picture of two uniformed police officers posing with a scantily clad woman outside the Booty Lounge — led to a controversy in Detroit. But Detroit City Councilman Gary Brown said he thinks the Booty Lounge will be out of business before the next Lions home game, which is next Monday night against the Bears.

“Our chief could have that problem solved by the next Lions home game. I’m confident that it will,” Brown said. “(Tailgating) needs to be clean, family fun and not an after-hours joint on wheels.”

  1. Disgusting, that this would be illegal. It’s just the Human body. It’s a beautiful thing. We need to end Christian Fascism, and stop creating laws that treat the human body as evil.

  2. HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHA I swear, my Lions will always have some sort of comical news about them. Luckily it’s no longer the reason the league has been thinking of a mercy rule.

  3. The Lions are 3-0…Why mess with ANYTHING right now????

Haven’t they ever heard Costner’s advice from Bull Durham?

  4. They had these outside of the Tampa Bay Bucs games, the gals in there looked like their cheerleaders (Really hot).

  5. I guess for those Nov and Dec home games, the patrons will “make it snow” as they down the Cristal. Strippers and football, what a combo!

  6. More like Roger Goodell wants to shut it down. Doesn’t jive with his new wholesome, family-oriented, violence-free brand of football.

    R.I.P. NFL

  7. At first I thought it was an amazing idea! Then I realized that is some ghetto a$$ detroit tactict to make money for low-lives. But maybe it kept fan interest for the awful years, now that the Lions are good they don’t booty to get fans excited (pun intended).

  8. Well, good thing there are families AND children around, instead of just children wandering around by themselves WITHOUT families. Please! Won’t someone think of the children!!!

  9. “I’m appalled at this kind of conduct because we have families and children around. We need to make sure these events are fan-friendly for children and their families.”

Right! Tailgating is supposed to be adults getting Schlitz-faced for hours, not scantily clad women pole dancing!

  10. What # is that bus? All I ever get are old hippies smelling of garlic and hobos with garbage bags filled with empty beer cans.

  11. We must stop this. IT’S FOR THE CHILDREN!

Because.. well.. they’ve never seen a breast before.

    Oh wait…

  12. Shut down before the Monday night game? I agree… the human body is, well… bootyful!

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME BOOTY?

  13. “That’s totally inappropriate. It’s lewd, lascivious, salacious, outrageous!”

    Sincerely,
    Jackie Chiles

  14. I guess people don’t care that families and children go to sporting events. I think perverts who feel a need to help exploit other people’s daughters can do without one mobile strip club.

  15. Yes, it’s totally wrong to exploit women at a football game, unless you’re paying them $150 for a full week of practice and prancing about on the sidelines during games wearing next to nothing.

The main difference between the dancers and the cheerleaders is that the dancers probably make more in tips in two hours than the cheerleaders get paid for a full week.

  16. It’s extremely upsetting to me that the “Booty Bus” is rumored to have been down there for 6 years and I never knew about it!!! This is just disgusting to me!!! Man I would totally have wanted to go…

  17. Why do they have to ruin everybody’s fun? And also, I really wish people would stop using the phrase “stay classy”. Ron burgandy was like 8 years ago. Find something new and original to say. I swear, the next person to say that in front of me is going to get a broken nose.

  18. Im still in shock after reading this a few times. Can’t believe I didn’t think if this first

This would also save many of us from having to wait till after we leave to go to the booby bar

  19. YESSSIR!!! I like booty and ride the bus on occasion…what a novel idea……think I’ll take that ride and I won’t need that transfer after all….I’ll buy that for a dollar….lmao

  20. I am 100% fine as long as they are consistent and shut down all non family-friendly activites.

    1) Ban the cheerleaders
    2) No alcohol in the stadium
    3) Cancel the Vikings game

  21. Chief wants to shut down a mobile “Scrip” Club that’s been around a while???

    Somebody didn’t get paid.

    Bank on it.

  22. I’m appalled at this kind of conduct because we have families and children around. We need to make sure these events are fan-friendly for children and their families.”

Pro football games ARE NOT for children!I would never take my kid to an nfl game.Fights, drunken bafoons and language are all present at any nfl stadium.

  23. Ban the Booty Lounge????

Heck, they should franchise it and have a few in the parking lots of every NFL game.

Come to think of it, portable bars, portable medical marijuana dispensaries and portable casinos wouldn’t be a bad idea either…. ; )

  24. I read about this in the Detroit News and was not surprised that the NFL pressured Detroit to shut this down. As for the children, gimme a break. People are acting like they were grabbing every 8-12 year old boy for a walk through. Besides, if they want to really make it a “family friendly” atmosphere, they should set up a family only parking area to go along with the family area in the stadium.

I don’t even know what to say to that jimmy. I can only hope that you are being sarcastic but sarcasm is very hard to pick up on the internet just in case you didn’t know. It’s ok for football teams to exploit people’s daughters by paying them nothing to dance on a football field while you imagine them naked but I can’t go out to the parking lot during half time and put a few bills towards some girls college fund/crack addiction?

  26. Fantastic idea…just allow people with season tickets to enter and there would be no blackouts except for the people too sensative to watch…umm not many of them…

  27. So they impound the bus. It’s Detroit. I am sure there is an abandoned building across the street they can set up in.

  28. Translation: the top cops didn’t get enough kick back or free lap dances, therefore this ingenius idea must close.

  29. Seems like every tailgate should have one of those on site…it isn’t our fault that some people choose to have kids.

My dad always explained to me what things were that way when I grew up I wouldn’t have a distorted sense of reality due to being sheltered by people who love in the ideal world and don’t prepare their kids for the actual world.

  30. This is awesome, It needs to be implemented @ every Niners/Raiders game. This is guaranteed to reduce fan violence, and will give the fans a common bond.

“Disgusting, that this would be illegal. It’s just the Human body. It’s a beautiful thing.”

Its not the naked bodies that are the problem. Its the cheesy saxophone music that goes with them. Ban saxophones and you could see all the naked people you want without a prurient thought.

  32. “It’s just the Human body. It’s a beautiful thing.”

You’ve apparently never seen the women of Michigan.

  33. Yeah, I know when I take my kids to a football game we often board other people’s buses at random. How could these people be so insensitive to all the families that happen to wander on to their bus?

Isn’t it ironic that Raider fan is calling someone else a low life……lol. I’ll take strippers over those convicts you call fans any day!! The Raiders average more stabbings at home game than a San Quentin prison yard brawl……hahaa

  36. Go to Google Images and search “detroit booty lounge”…One of first photos that will appear is a picture of 2 Detroit Police officers posing with a stripper in front of the booty lounge bus.

    Stay classy Detroit!

  37. I love how authority figures – particularly conservative, ELECTED ones – like to act as if some bus in a parking lot, or a strip club on a corner, taints a neighborhood, or somehow spills out into the streets. Listening to these closet freaks, most of which are probably attending out of town clubs, you’d think the strippers are walking down the sidewalk naked or something. All the “lewdness” goes on behind closed doors, with PAYING customers. It isn’t as if some kid is going to walk into the champagne room (champagne cubby?) without realizing and have his innocence stolen.

  38. Dear insulted and concerned Moms and Dads –
Statistically, you are putting your boy in more harm’s way (knifings, tasers) by taking him to the game than if you just let him go take a peek.

  39. The only Detroit Police Office who can resist the strong calling of a stripper is RoboCop. Anyone know if he is on the payroll still? And to think Detroit is worse off today than it was in ‘RoboCop’…

Whomever created the mobile stripper bus is pure genius and should be rewarded. Think about the gals that don’t know how to do anything else…no they are going on the dole. Nice job Detroit…crushing the American spirit in a city where it surely is near death…

Not quite, nothing tops Detroit these days! Do an image search for Detorit Slums and you will think you are looking at Mumbai.

  41. “We need to make sure these events are fan-friendly for children and their families.”

Darn straight. Let the little nippers go inside the stadium like they’ve got a pair and quaff all the legally-sold family-friendly beer they can guzzle.

  42. Really just failing to see the problem here…

Kids are hardly innocent at all anymore, it’s not a big deal. These ‘concerned parents’ probably let their kids watch HBO.

  43. God Bless America!and leave your kids at Home!if you want to take them to a game how about a High School game,or CYO game.Make sure everyone gets a trophy and ice cream also.I dont think anyone under 18 should be alowed at NFL games then we wouldn’t have to worry about all the WHINERS!Wake up America.

  44. Is there any surprise that it would be in Detroit??? The place is nothing but a hell-hole-war-zone. The entire city should be cordoned off with electric razor fences and police crime scenes tape. Also, I don’t think there’s any need to worry about the little children be offended or shocked in any way. If they grew up in Detroit to begin with they’re already plenty hardened.

  45. Surprised to see how many liberals want to keep the bus, thought most you poofs preferred sucking rod.

  46. They need to get Jerome Bettis to do a celebrity endorsement. “When the Bus is in his hometown, and I want to see some Booty, I always check out the Booty Lounge!”

Dude! this is Detroit, there aren’t any ELECTED Conservatives there? nice try.

  48. So selling alcohol in the stadium IS a children and family friendly setting? Hmmm. So you can get drunk at the game and drive home buzzed, but you can’tlook at some booty outside the stadium? Let them girls shake dem honey buns fo some funds.

  49. Surprised to see how many liberals want to keep the bus, thought most you poofs preferred sucking rod.

As opposed to your conservatives priests who enjoy the rods of little boys?

  50. The Bus is such an upbeat, popular, and fun loving place, Detroit residents have nicknamed it Jerome Bettis.

    ======================================

Yea we all know Republicans prefer airport bathrooms to bus station bathrooms.

  52. Who needs cheerleaders when you can have the “Booty Bus”!!!! …… BRILLIANT!!!!

P.S. … The bus is driven by none other than Mr. Bobby Ross himself, Mr. “Bus Ticket Outta Town” ….. hahahaha

  53. Perhaps the Detroit police should focus more on shutting down one of the 650 open air drug markets and then worry about stripper buses.

  54. Police: “Strippers may be illegal.”

(police officers go onto bus… 30 minutes passes)

    Police: “Nope. Strippers definitely legal.”

Really? Have you looked at Detriot recently? It’s falling apart…No way a conservative has put it in that condition. Democrats have ran Detriot (into the ground) for decades and Democrats are in charge there now…

  56. Maybe the Booty Lounge could relocate to Cincinnati so the fans there would have something worth watching ! LMFAO !!!

  57. For those of you who say it’s no big deal having a mobile strip club outside the stadium…Think about this for a while…what is going to happen when some creepo coming off the bus decides to snag some kid in the parking lot and take them to their van? Strip clubs attract all kinds of people some of them your average every day joe and others of a more unsavory nature. Detroit is just trying to keep it safe so everyone can enjoy the game without incident. If you want to go watch some chick take her clothes off and shove dollar bills in her panties fine…more power to ya, but not in a family environment. Like it or not people do take their kids to football games.

  58. Generally speaking what goes on inside most NFL stadiums is conduct and language that is unsuitable for families and children. That said, most children today hear that language and behavior and some even use it. So what are you trying to protect against. Also, around most stadia, parking laws and limits on vehicle size and type prohibit buses to just pull up outside of a stadium and set up shop of any kind. I don’t know what kind of enforcement is done there, but it wouldn’t even be allowed to park there in other cities.

  59. I agree with Grandpoopah, however, I wish some people would educate themselves on the subject before commenting. This bus had absolutely nothing to do with the Lions orginzation. It was not outside of Lions games, it was down in Eastern Market for the Lions, Tigers and I am sure other events downtown.
