WoodyG is always on Lions posts trying to "bring reality" back to the Lions and their fans.

Thanks for the effort, but I am fine with letting reality actually be reality (I.e. Actual outcomes). A win is a win in the NFL. You as a packer fan (or whatever team fan) should know that. Last year the Lions were 2-10 at one point, and alot people give them credit for games being close in losses. I don't give credit for close losses, as a win is a win. The truth is that alot of time is only takes knowing how to win and the confidence to do so, to get a team over the line between mediocre and good.

Say what you want, but the Lions have won 7 consecutive regular season games. That does not mean anything yet, but it does prove they learned how to win close games and have a lot of confidence right now. Here is more "reality" for you .....3-0.
PERIOD.

Strong defense of the Lions ...... You're right, the Lions are not an 0-16 team ...... I'm sticking with 8-8 in 2011 ......

I will guarantee, however, that when reality hits for the Lions & their fans, I won't say 'I told you so' ...... This happens almost on a yearly basis where one team (And the fanbase) have an illusion that they are better than they really are ...... Remember, the Lions were 2-10 after 12 games in 2010 ..... They're obviously better than that now but by 'how much' ? ......

Solution: Get to Stafford early and often. The only way to stop CJ is to keep Stafford from being able to throw him the ball. I know this is a pretty obvious and simple solution but its the only one that will work.

i was in the library when i read this and laughed out loud. thank you for that.

Best WR easily, but overall best? No. You have to be able to make plays without someone having to get you the ball in order to be considered as such.

That means it is a defensive lineman, linebacker, maybe Revis or maybe a QB.

Right now, Darelle Revis is laughing. He eliminated the best player in the league the last time they played.

Watch that game over again, even Revis had safety help over the top. If a corner as good as Revis needed it, then that just says how dangerous Calvin is.

---------------------------------------------------------
Better check your facts dude. The Jets had a safety over the top for most of that game. And if not for a an injury to Stafford, a very poor mistake made by Jim Schwartz in the last quarter and a stupid penalty by Julian Peterson, New York loses. So while the Jets were busy gameplanning for CJ by double teaming him, using Revis and whatever safety was on that side of the field, the Jets were losing that game until those mistakes.

If you have to use two defensive players to make sure a wide receiver doesn't beat you, I'd call that receiver pretty damn good. The best? That's all a matter of personal opinion.

@Grulks:
i took all that into account when i made my comment. I know a little about the game, so my observations are based on a bit more than a trip to the nfl.com stats page. my point is that i dont think any of them are discernably better than the other. it's a totally dependent position. protection, qb play/aptitude, running game, etc are all factors that help to determine whether or not a wr gets the ball even thrown to him, the accuracy and catchability of the ball is also a consideration.
i'm not knocking the guy at all. he's tremendous. my point is that i wouldnt say he does, or has done, anything to say that he's BETTER than those guys. i'd say just as good, comparable, etc. i will say that NO ONE has better hands that Fitz.

Solution: Get to Stafford early and often. The only way to stop CJ is to keep Stafford from being able to throw him the ball. I know this is a pretty obvious and simple solution but its the only one that will work.

localbandhero:

You say: "Remember when the Lions went 0-16? Where was Megatron then?"

Well, he was leading the NFL in most stats that year with Orlovsky and Kitna throwing him the ball. He was constantly doubled and sometimes triple teamed as he was the only weapon on a terrible team. Here were his stats that year:

Receptions: 78
TD's: 12
YPC: 1331
YPG: 17.1 avg

Pretty Impressive.....From now on if somebody is not a Lions fan and wants to call out stats about Calvin Johnson, please look before you speak. It makes you look incredibly stupid otherwise.

he’s up there, but he’s not BETTER than Larry or Andre
==========
Larry and Andre both had/have fantastic QB's throwing to them, that ALWAYS helps development of talented WR's. I suppose you could argue Schaub isn't fantastic, but he certainly is developed and above average. In fact, both teams had arguably better personal on both sides of the ball than Megatron did, up until this year.

If Stafford stays healthy this year, you're going to see megatron have comparable, maybe even better numbers than both Andre/Larry. At that point, determining who had a better season is a matter of preference.

The lions are going to loose a game sooner our later, but there is no doubt that they are for real. It's going to be a tough year, have you seen their schedule? They have to so many good teams. And the nfc north can flat out play defense. Nothing is going to be easy in this division, that's how everyone is built here. Can't wait till Minnesota shocks someone, they just have to get an offensive game plan (give AP the ball more especially in the second half). Their defense is still good.

I am a Lions fan, and I can say that Cris Carter saying that Calvin was not elite was as stupid a thing as has ever been said on TV. Calvin is an elite receiver, and other teams MUST account for him. Remember now, Carter said that Calvin can be single covered effectively....and that's simply not true. Just ask Brandon Carr, Aqib Talib and Cedric Griffin....they know it now.

As for those saying that the Lions are going to destroy the Cowboys, get a grip. I think the Lions can win, but it will definitely be a close game, and certainly not a guaranteed victory for Detroit. If the Detroit O-line doesn't shake off the cobwebs and start blocking, both pass and run, better they will struggle to score. The Cowboys may have a shake secondary, but the rest of their defense is pretty damn good.

@ woodyg - you need to wake up, it's now 2011, and this ain't no 0-16 Detroit Lions team anymore. Accept reality, and come out of the drug induced haze you are currently living in.

As a Vikings fan I couldn’t be happier for the Lions. However, do be serious… you finally have a winning record and you guys come out of the woodwork to talk smack? Calvin Johnson better than Randy Moss? Randy Moss was never apart of a 0-16 team. Only a 15-1 and 16-0. Randy changed the game when it comes to the deep bomb. Literally the coolest thing to witness live as well. Oh yeah…if you are going to talk trash on Carter…at least spell his first name correctly. C-R-I-S

I'd be bitter too if my team gave up 3 straight double digit half time leads.
