Didn’t mean to get in your grill. I’m 54 and have been living and dying with the Lions since I was a kid. Ironically, the first game I ever watched on TV was the 5-0 playoff loss to the Cowboys.

I’m not a slappie who thinks the Lions are a dominant team that is a lock for the post season, however, I’ve seen enough of our teams over the years to know that this group is pretty solid. Do we have weaknesses? Yes, as do most other NFL teams.

I saw how competitive this team was last year, playing most of our games with our 2nd and 3rd string back-up QB’s and a porous Linebacking/DB core. With a couple of breaks, last years team could have easily gone 8-8, making this years start not seem so jaw dropping. The Lions front office has addressed some of those glaring deficiencies with some solid players in the off season.

I don’t mind trash talking so much; Lord knows we have some overzealous fans who have been so starved of a successful team that they are going off the deep end and making all sorts of far reaching claims. I understand other teams fans getting a little annoyed with some of these posters. But by the same token, we get really agitated with some posters who dismiss this team as a pretender who will be exposed as “the same old Lions.” Anyone who follows this team in depth knows that this team is for real. A lot can happen in a regular season, but I believe this is a team that can challenge for a playoff spot this year, and we finally have a staff that is making sound personnel decisions for once.

You seem like a smart football guy and I didn’t mean to go off on you. 40 years of ugly football has left me a little frayed at the edges. Took some intestinal fortitude to respond to my snarky little post. You have earned my respect, dude.

Just like the respect I hope the Lions can earn this year.

Then again, there was no reason to think that last week, where most commentators picked them to win 31-14.

nicely played, I know Det has been putting up big numbers with stafford and i do acknoledge that. i am even aware that he has 5 receivers with over 1oo yrds, just saying that Dal”s D that is ranked 5th in total def should be able to disrupt detroits pass game a bit, our corners blow, but our front four should get pressuse, thus hopelfully giving stafford fits …. HOPEFUlLY

I don’t mind thoughtful analysis by other team’s fans, but when you make statements like “Calvin is the only real offensive threat here,” you just look like another misinformed homer.

Flukey Injuries, Peppers gave him a monster hit, doubt it happens that bad again. We need to worry more about our own QB’s health. Suprisingly I’m not nearly as worried about J’marcus Webb as Garza or Omiyale, those two and Mike Martz’s outdated system are the problem. I say we mimic the Patriots/Packers and go short passes to our speedy receivers. It makes so much more sense with this personell

The Pats D weakness is with the DB’s /pass rush but their run D is ranked 10th.

I actually forgot about their packer loss.. I definitely wouldnt overlook the worst showing of a team ever in superbowl history. (and yes that does include the chargers/49ers and when Oakland forgot to change the playbook against the bucs).

Oh.. and 3 of the 4 superbowls decided by 3 points or less were the Patriots wins. Dynasty’s dont win on last second FG’s.. sorry
