Calvin Johnson can tie Cris Carter’s record

Picking on Cris Carter has become a recreational sport in Detroit, with Matthew Stafford and coordinator Gunther Cunningham recently pointing out the folly of Carter’s anti-Calvin Johnson stance.

Johnson can get the best revenge on Carter the next two weeks without saying a word. He could erase Carter’s name from the record books. (Well, at least for one record.)

Megatron can tie Carter as the only receiver in NFL history with two scores in four straight games if Johnson scores twice on Sunday against Dallas. Do it again next week, and Johnson will have the record to himself, according to the Detroit Free Press.

“I think the biggest thing that makes [Johnson] play at such a high level is he’s so receptive and he’s willing to learn,” receiver Nate Burleson said.

We’re not even sure whether Johnson has taken the “next step” this year. He was already pretty awesome, but now the rest of his team is catching up with him.

Whatever the reason for the increased attention, Calvin’s name needs to be mentioned along with Larry Fitzgerald and that other Johnson in Houston as one of the truly elite wideouts in the game.
