Patriots All Pro guard Logan Mankins is coming off his best game of the season in Oakland, one in which he held Richard Seymour in check.
Mankins knows this week will be even tougher because of the varied fronts the Jets throw at you.
“It’s not like Jacksonville, where they line up in one spot and never move or do anything different,” Mankins said Wednesday via Ian Rapoport of the Boston Herald.
It sounds like Mankins was taking an unprompted shot at Jacksonville, but he’s just speaking the truth. The Jaguars have a basic defensive philosophy that they stick to. The Colts over the years have employed a similarly predictable (but effective) approach.
Paul Kuharsky of ESPN.com saw Mankins’ words and agreed with them. He think the Jaguars need to do more to become a dominant defense. So far they have ranked 12th in yards allowed and tenth in points allowed.
That’s not bad, but it’s not enough to win many games with Jacksonville’s offense dragging the team down.
