Michael Vick: “The Dream Team thing is over”

Eagles quarterbacks Vick and Young watch a replay while playing against the Baltimore Ravens in a NFL preseason football game in Philadelphia Pennsylvania Reuters

If you’re one of the many football fans sick of hearing “Philadelphia Eagles” and “Dream Team” in the same sentence, Michael Vick feels your pain.

The dream team thing is over,” Vick said in an interview with the team’s web site. “Now we just have to forget about everything that’s happened and take it one game at a time. That’s what I’ve sensed in the locker room. I sense change. Nobody’s happy about this.”

Vick said he feels sick about the Eagles’ 1-3 record.

“It’s the worst,” Vick said. “At this level, in a game of this magnitude, especially for our organization and how hard we’ve worked, it makes it very difficult. Now the only thing to do is to go out there and get it worked out.”

With Sunday’s game against the surprising Bills up next, the Eagles need to get a lot better in a hurry, Vick says.

“We know what works for us, our coaches know what works for us,” Vick said. “It’s time to just let it all go, put everything behind us, and let it all hang out.”

And the first thing Vick wants the Eagles to put behind them is Vince Young’s infamous nickname.

Vince Young should be cut. He’s a total dunce to have done this, and he cannot play.

It was just a bad dream team. Go back to sleep.

  4. jay72 says: Oct 5, 2011 12:55 PM

Sorry, Vick – You can’t put the toothpaste back in the tube. Your idiot backup QB ran his mouth and stained the team with that label, so now you get to live with it. Enjoy.

What about Michael Vick’s nickname, “Ron Mexico”? I suppose putting that one behind you could result in herpes, though…

  10. captainwisdom8888 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:00 PM

Considering the “Dream Team” moniker was put out there by a backup player who hasn’t even seen the field yet, it never should have gathered this type of publicity in the first place…

  11. newagerocker says: Oct 5, 2011 1:00 PM

I have to hand it to the media, they really picked up on an off handed comment, by a guy whose shoe size is bigger than his Wonderlick Test score, and really ran with it and made something out of nothing.

  12. mkbane says: Oct 5, 2011 1:00 PM

  13. deadeye says: Oct 5, 2011 1:00 PM

Vick is maturing. It only took him 4 games to figure this out. In Atlanta it would have taken him four seasons.

  28. nineroutsider says: Oct 5, 2011 1:06 PM

The Eagles are going to make the playoffs. No, not because of this story. They are going to get on a roll and I am happy the Niners missed that. The amount of talent they have can’t be kept down much longer.

Every team has deficiencies, the Eagles just haven’t learned to hide theirs well enough yet, but Reid will figure it out. Swallow some pride and start doing what will work, not what you want to do.

Still, not sure how they could go into the season with such small backers…I couldn’t help but laugh when I first saw them line up on Sunday.

  29. Mr. Wright 212 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:07 PM

  31. b1rdbath says: Oct 5, 2011 1:08 PM

Vick should have killed this “dream team” thing along time ago.

The comment wasn’t the problem. Its asinine coaching that’s the problem. I just don’t see any light at the end of the tunnel for the eagles. They basically have to win all division games and all but maybe 1 non division game to contend.

Not to mention that our best OT and DE are out with injury.

I think I am going to have to find a new hobby on sundays.

  33. gcsuk says: Oct 5, 2011 1:08 PM

OK? Why not do that before week 5 if it’s that simple?

  38. mox19380 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:11 PM

Forget VY, his innocuous comment wasn’t heard or recognized as legit by anyone that bleeds green. It was just a great line for the media to jump on. They say Oline and MLB are the most important positions on the field along with the QB. The eagles have 1of the 3 and we’re 1-3 (go figure)…. As an eagles fan I learned 2004 (signed TO and Kearse) to curb your entusiasm for Philly acquisitions

  39. myeaglescantwin says: Oct 5, 2011 1:11 PM

there are absolutely no signs that this Defense will get any better.. i’m a diehard fan, but i’m also a realist. the Birds will be 6-10

They are amongst the worst teams in the red zone on both sides of the ball. the defense has let up 8 TDs in 10 red zone appearances, with 2 FGs.. terrrrrible..
no reason Andy Reid should be coaching in Philadelphia next year..

these personel mishapps are unexcuseable and should not be tolerated.

what LBs will be available with a top 15 pick in 2012 draft????

  40. richwolf42 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:11 PM

  44. sonvar says: Oct 5, 2011 1:13 PM

Defense really just needs more consistent play and they’ll be fine. The offense hasn’t started out games fast like last season but they are still putting up points. Once the Defense gets it straight it should be fine.

  51. your6ringsaremeaninglessnow says: Oct 5, 2011 1:22 PM

Forcing Asomugha into a zone coverage scheme was as bad as an idea as the Redskins forcing Albert Haynesworth into a 3-4 nosetackle role. You either sign and draft players to fit your scheme or you change your scheme to fit your players. Forcing players into a scheme never works, paying these players to play out of their natural positions is even worse. Only in baseball can you buy yourself a championship (think ’97 Marlins/2009 Yankees) and even then, this strategy is hit or miss.

  52. raiderlyfe510 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:23 PM

Maybe Nnamdi Asomugha is a jinx. First year with Raiders was year after the superbowl, everyone knows their history after that. He’s never been on a team with a winning record. And BTW it is sad to see him on that team and watch them use him in the totally wrong way cause he’s a stud corner when used right.

  59. fjdk4444 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:28 PM

I think that use of the term “Dream Team” should be permanently restricted to THE Dream Team, the 1992 U.S. Men’s Olympic basketball team that featured Jordan, Bird, Barkley and Ewing and destroyed its competition by an average of 44 points per game. All others have been poseurs.

  72. georgeblanda says: Oct 5, 2011 1:46 PM

To Logical Eagle Fans: I have a question. I am a Forty Niner Fan and can’t understand one critical decision the Eagles made in the game. I might be wrong on this but it seemed that in the first half you had Asomugha covering Vernon Davis exclusively (shutting down the #1 receiver in press is Nnamdi’s best skill and how the Eagles should be using him always). Since he is Alex’s security blanket, Smith was jittery and not playing well. But in the 2nd half, you changed defense to zone, which freed up Davis, and made Alex more calm. I don’t think the 9ers adjusted their offense much at all, I think they played better because for some reason the Eagles adjusted their defense (which had been working great). Has there been discussion of this in Philly?

  74. chipper41 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:50 PM

  75. youdownwithjpp says: Oct 5, 2011 1:51 PM

I remember in the off season the likes of ESPN and the NFL Network were saying that the Eagles had the best off season pickups and questioning what were the Giants doing not making any picks up.

Under 2 months later and the Giants FO is looking like the ACTUALLY knew what they were doing. With the likes of Baas, Cruz, Ballard, J. William, Greg Jones all stepping up and playing to their potential.

This is why like many have said football is not a “throw money at it” sport. A players talent and a teams success must be built up from with in.

Draft the CORRECT players and cultivate them to how you need them to play in your system.

Much like a game of chess every player has their own unique abilities and skill sets, so that when they come together they are a part of complex system and game plan.

Imagine playing chess (much like the Eagles put together their team this year) with all big names, which I guess you could compare to a King piece. Sure it sounds good and they have command respect but when it comes to execution it will never work.

You need the pawns, the knights, etc. Just because you have the fastest or strongest does NOT mean you have the best team, I believer the Eagles have learned this.

And after looking at how the Redskins are doing and their personnel this season it looks like they have learned that same lesson already.

  76. dlindstedt2 says: Oct 5, 2011 1:55 PM

Funny Hearing all the eagle bashing from these fans with bum azz teams just because they’re off to a good start. Long way from over guys so until ya do something worry about ya own squad getting by week to week healthy. Eagles r slow starters to begin with have proven year after year they get better while most teams get worse. Getting exposed in September eh it’s killin me right now but we all been watching football long enough to this is a week by week thing guys.
Besides real eagles fans kno JUAN CASTILLO is what’s really costing us these games. We haven’t even played that well and have been in position to win all three gamesonly to have Juan play this soft ass zone cra.

    All eagles

“The Dream Team thing is over”
    ___________________________________

Ummm, when did it START? Did a quarterback who couldn’t outplay 74 year old Kerry Collins in Tennessee saying it was a Dream Team make it one? Ohh, it’s the fact that they won the Offseason Lombardi Trophy, thats why! The Eagles could have looked right in their division (Redskinds) to realize that winning Free Agency doesn’t always (damn near never) translates into winning on Sundays and playing in January.

  101. peggypost says: Oct 5, 2011 3:27 PM

Are the knuckleheads at espn required to repeat ‘dream team’ whenever discussing te eagles? It’s annoying. And can we please ban the word ‘sexy’ from sports-talk lexicon? It’s ummmm…well.. you know..

  102. laeaglefan says: Oct 5, 2011 3:39 PM

I really don’t think you can continue to hold Vince Young responsible for the whole “Dream Team” thing.
He made an innocuous comment during an interview and the media picked it up and ran with it. Its ridiculous already. Get over it! What people should be talking about is how the Eagles apparently wasted a lot of money on certain players that could have been put to better use signing linebackers and offensive linemen.

The “All In Team” – Joe Banner

The “Gold Standard” – Jeffrey Lurie

    The “Dream Team” – VY

VY’s not the only big mouthed wannabe in Philly.

Now, we get to call them the DREAM TEAM until they actually ever win one!!

What a bunch of bs. Lose another game and you will keep seeing it over and over. Besides, half of the the little egirl fans are dying to put on their little dream team t shirts they have hidden away. They want so badly to break em out after a Super Bowl win. Too bad it’s not going happen. No egirl SB win. You had to know it. (I’ve already seen one of those t shirts in Philly so dont act like you dont have em ) At least one fan had the guts to wear it, stupid as it was.

Let’s not aim too high.

I love it how everyone is saying to fire andy reid. reid is NOT the only problem…this is what you do.

    You fire castillo.

Cut Ronnie Brown….(i mean that guy’s an idiot.)

Put some double sided sticky tape all over Maclin

Put silver duct tape over Desean Jackson’s Big mouth
while youre at it put it on vinces too. (this whole dream team thing he said is making you all look like idiots.) and tie him to a chair. (cant trust that guy)

Attach a crabtree jersey to Asomaugh’s head and just let him run away.

Feed your linebackers 18,000 calories a day.
(You can make them chase chicken’s so they get faster too.) Like rocky!

    Then you euthanize Vick.

Then finally..You Fire Reid and start from scratch.

With love…your most beloved niners fan.

C’mon now, you know “it’s always sunny in Philadelphia”……..

“Dream team” my arse. If the Eagles had a proper QB (instead of a porcelain one), an O-line that gave a hoot about their jobs, and a fan base that didn’t boo Santa Claus at the drop of a dime, perhaps they’d win a few games. I don’t want to dump on them (Lord knows why – I’m a long-suffering Raiders fan hoping for the sun to shine again) but I just can’t grasp why all the talent but one win? It seems that 1/4 of the season has already passed, therefore somebody better get a clue, and fast.

i love how ppl are acting as if ANYone on the team condoned that “dream team” label… even vince young… he said it while laughing – it was a “wow, they’ve put a lot of talent on the field w/ this team” comment.. (does anyone disagree w/ that sentiment?)… but why pass up an opportunity to use trite jokes week in and week out??? lol i mean, I would’ve thought there are only so many times someone can type “dream team”/”nightmare”/”wake up”/”wet dream”/”bad dream” and still think it’s clever… but i guess i’d be wrong… and i would’ve also thought that cowboys/skins/giants/packers/steelers/etc. fans would only check up on an “irrelevant” 1-3 team but so many times… i’d be wrong there too… and i also wonder how many of you would be on the internet still “battling” the act of dog fighting if mike vick wasn’t a starter in the league….

well, from an eagles fan, i want to say that while i’m annoyed as f*ck by you, it still warms my heart that you all care so much! <3………….. f*cking losers lol

I haven’t referred to the Eagles anything other than the Dream Team!!

When my friends come over and ask what game I’m watching, I respond “Dream Team / 9-ers”.

When I call my bookie, I tell him, “Dream Team giving 3″.

When I’m asked whether [Philly] is winning, I respond, “Dream Team is down 10″.

I’m telling you….I’ll never call the Eagles the Eagles until they win the SB!!!

    ********

    Was thinkin’ the same thing…then I thought…

What pushed them over the top to get that 1st SB was signing a BIG name FA!

What was his name?…Oh yeah, Reggie White…

All this Dream Team crapola doesn’t mean anything…the haters will try to shove it into our faces…the media LOVE IT, because it causes such a stir…but seriously…

When this team starts making the plays it should…and the victories start piling up…

Alot of peole runnin’ their mouths here will be gettin’ full on Crow.

    @GeorgeBlanda…

    100% correct…1st half…Asomugha was Iso’ed on Davis, especially on 3rd down…Smith looked bad.

No…I haven’t seen/heard any Iggles fans that noticed, though I do not live in Philly…

    2nd half played predominately zone…Smith got better…

The thinking HAD to be that the 20 point lead was enough…it wasn’t…it should have been…it really should have, but…

Castillo is learning on the job…hope he never makes this mistake again.

That being said, IF IF IF..the players do their jobs…20 points was plenty.

    Go Eagles.

    More trolling packer fans.

Please go away. Fans of the other 31 teams find you insufferable. You’re getting worse than steeler fans.
    ————————————————

More trolling packer fans?? Take a look pal, no one trolls more posts & has more opinions about other teams than Feeble fans. As for them being insufferable, jealously will get you no where. At least you can go to Lambo & wear an opposing fans jersey or shirt & not have to fear for your life. To wear an opposing team’s shirt or jersey in Philly is like ASKING for trouble. You fans have shown over & over & over you have no idea how to act. Nothing is more insufferable than Feeble fans & that’s why everyone is enjoying watching your team fall on it face right now, not because of the team, it because of YOU FANS!!

@ tigrrr – right on man – 100% with you on that post.

@ mancave001 – Just a thought but maybe YOU should get over the jokes about Vick, they will never stop. He did horrible, sadistic things that are not cured with 18 months in jail or throwing a few TD passes for your Feebles. People have every right to feel as they do about him just as you have every right to blindly stick up for a player that if he was on any other team, your city would chant brutal things to him as you’ve done to players that have far less.

We can always count of Filthadelphia to talk out of both sides of their mouths’, the whole Reid thing is a prime example. 2 months ago, he was doing a GREAT job, today look at all the posts wanting his head from the “loyal fans” of Filthy.

Hey Tricker – to all you Eagle fans with your silly posts, it’s too darn bad your QB is such a sadistic low down excuse for a human being that treated women as badly as he treated hurt & crying animals. Here’s the thing man, what we say is fact though, the things you all say is opinion. But maybe you should take your own advice & if you don’t like what others say, don’t react.
