APWhen Giants first-round pick Prince Amukamara broke his foot in training camp, the team said it would take about eight weeks for him to recover.
The eight-week mark passed on Saturday and Amukamara still isn’t close to getting back on the field. Giants coach Tom Coughlin addressed the cornerback’s status and said that he won’t be doing it again until after the team’s bye week. The Giants have a bye in Week seven of the season after their home game against the Bills.
“I don’t know what his original time frame was,” Coughlin said, via ESPN New York. “Prince is not ready to go. He will not be for a while. We are not going to mess around here. Until he is ready to go … I really don’t ask about him every day because to me it is off somewhere in the distance. It’s very slow, as you would imagine, but it is gradual and we are making progress. There is no setback.”
Because of the injuries to Amukamara and Terrell Thomas, the Giants have been using Aaron Ross as a starting corner while safety Antrel Rolle slides to the slot corner in nickel packages. That arrangement resulted in major problems in Week One, but Rolle has been doing a better job as the season’s progressed and he had a key interception during Sunday’s win in Arizona.
reese is goiing for the triple crown. the giants should not rush him back.
nicks.jpp. prince.
At this point, the Giants are dependent on their pass rush to keep pressure of their secondary. They need to hope they can get wins now while it’s the easier part of their schedule. Hopefully for them, Prince, Osi and Tuck can continue to get healthier when they’ll be much more needed towards the rough part of the Giants schedule which includes New England, Green Bay and New Orleans in a span of 4 weeks.
The Prince of Zamunda has better odds at working in McDowells this year than in the Giants secondary.
That was a BAD draft selection, the guy is never going to be anything in the NFL, HE is a BUST.
At least he’s not a free agent and nearly broke, seeking desperately to get paid by a hated rival that he relentlessly taunted on Twitter and Facebook.
Oh wait.
But yeah, no need to rush him back, we’ll be fine until he integrates into the system. Ross has actually saved me from the impending heart attack that I thought I was gonna have when TT went down.
Clowns sitting here talking about how our secondary is bad are clueless more than Stacey Dash ever was.
@jakek2
Awesome.
At this point, just put him on the IR. He’s not going to give us much at all if he comes back after the bye week. Plus he could re-injure himself. Better to start fresh after a full year of recovery.

No sense in IR’ing him either. Let him come back with his foot all healed and learn SOMETHING about the system. He is already taking up a roster spot, and you certainly aren’t going to get anyone (at this point) who can potentially give you as much production in the 2nd half of the season.
you never know at week 15, the Giants may need him to step up and be productive. with a unit THAT shallow, you keep him around and you keep him up to speed in meetings, doing mental reps, learning the system — getting accustomed to however he can be useful. He will be more useful to the Giants on the roster and in the system than on the coach at home.
I think an appropriate first name instead of Prince is “Crystal”.
This guy won Superbowl MVP in my Madden Franchise with a pick-6.

Based on…? It’s funny because every analyst acknowledges we got a steal with this kid.
Watch the episode Sports Science did on this guy. He is a STUD.
@bootspur
Gotta love how people label guys draft busts before even watching him play. I’m sure you’re the same idiot who said Cam Newton wouldn’t break 1000 yards passing this year. Let’s give the guy a change to screw up before jumping on him, ok?
@youdownwithjpp
No kidding, what’d this kid do? Jump 19 feet BACKWARDS pulling off a one-handed catch?
