The Chiefs got their first victory of the season on Sunday behind five Ryan Succop field goals and his performance was recognized with the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week award.

Succop hit all five of his field goal attempts to help the Chiefs outlast the Vikings 22-17 at Arrowhead Stadium. Two of the field goals were from more than 50 yards out, including a career-long 54-yard shot in the third quarter. Succop’s 16 points were the most of any kicker in the league during Week Four.

Succop’s game against the Vikings represented a stark change from his work in the first three weeks of the season. Succop missed three of his first five field goal attempts, something that was probably lost with all the attention being paid to the other struggles experienced by the Chiefs as they scored 27 points in the first three games.
