Broncos tackle Orlando Franklin leaves team to deal with family emergency

Tackle Orlando Franklin, the 46th overall pick in the 2011 draft, has left the Broncos to deal with a family emergency.

On his Twitter page, Franklin disclosed that his 20-year-old brother has died.

“Orlando was excused from afternoon meetings to deal with a family matter,” team spokesman Patrick Smyth said Wednesday, according to the Associated Press.  The team provided no further details.

Franklin is the first-team right tackle; he has started every game this season.  His availability for Sunday’s game against the Chargers isn’t known.

This is a guy I was really hoping the Dolphins drafted. He’s a rookie with his whole career ahead of him. Take the weekend off and be with your family. It’s a damn shame.

Just posted by the Denver Post Mike Klis. Franklin is at practice today.

Prob best for him to stay busy and focused. I love watching this monster. Clady & Franklin could be a a force for years to come. Good building blocks to start with. RIP to his little brother.
