Jaguars extend Mike Thomas, $9 million guaranteed

The Jaguars have made a move to keep some of their young talent locked up.

Wide receiver Mike Thomas has agreed to a three-year extension worth $18 million, with $9 million guaranteed, Pro Football Weekly is reporting.

The 24-year-old Thomas, the Jaguars’ fourth-round pick in 2009, is by far the team’s top receiver: He has 20 catches for 212 yards this year, while no one else on the team even has 10 catches or 100 yards.

The Jaguars are struggling this season, but with Thomas, Marcedes Lewis and Maurice Jones-Drew to go with rookie quarterback Blaine Gabbert, they believe they have the ingredients for a big-play offense in the future.

Mike is solid; adding Jeff Fuller in the 2nd rnd next year will be a nice compliment

Good move. Would be nice to have Alshon Jeffrey or Justin Blackmon lined up on the other side of Thomas next year.

    Terrence Knighton should be next.

Thomas is a solid citizen, a rarity at the position. Good move, solid foundation on offense, with Gabbert, Jones-Drew, Lewis, Thomas, Monroe, Britton and Rackley, along with Zach Miller.

Smart move locking up the only WR on the team who has proven he knows how to play the position.

So PFT does a story insinuating Gene Smith is on the way out, but Weaver lets him lock up a guy he picked in week 5 with a 1 and 3 record.

    I think he is safe.

    Good lock up.

    In Gene we Trust

I’m a die hard Jaguars fan, and I love Mike Thomas and what he brings to the offense…but if we don’t get alshon jeffrey or justin blackmon in the draft next year I don’t know how Gabbert can possibly develop to his full potential

    Who is Mike Thomas???

Great move, Thomas always had the talent to excel compared to that flash in the pan Sims-Walker.

    9 Mil for Mike Thomas?

DeSean Jackson is going to blow a gasket. The Eagles will see just how good that receiving core actually is once he leaves via free agency to the highest bidder.

I’ve been on this Earth for 26 years. How a black man that makes more money than me has not died by my hands has go to be my most nostalgic feat.

With this big distraction out of the way, they can get back to scoring lots of points and winning games!
