Getty ImagesWe have a favorite in the “Suck for Luck” sweepstakes.
The Dolphins will play the rest of the season without starting quarterback Chad Henne, according to Jeff Darlington of NFL.com. Darlington reports that Henne will undergo surgery on his separated non-throwing shoulder.
Matt Moore is likely to take over for Henne, but the team will have to sign a veteran or two. David Garrard made it clear this week that he only wanted to sign for some guaranteed money and a likely starting gig, and it appeared the Dolphins weren’t ready to go that far. We’ll see if that changes now.
It’s a big blow for Henne, who was showing signs of steady growth this year despite Miami’s records. His yards-per-attempt was way up to 7.8.
Henne is a free agent this offseason, and it’s hard to imagine him returning to Miami. There will almost certainly be a new coaching staff next year.
UPDATE: Darlington reports the Dolphins have interest in Sage Rosenfels, who is looking for work.

the vikings and colts are already playing without a QB.
That’s a shame, the kid was starting to get it.
Is Earl Morrall available?
Whatever hope the ‘Fins had, has just evaporated.
This team was a trainwreck anyway, and they pretty much need a clean slate.
The Miami Dolphins are now taking season ticket deposits for 2012 based on Andrew Luck as their QB.
It’s something about Miami Dolphins and season ending shoulder surgery….. *chad Pennington*
Ehh…Dolphin fans didn’t like him anyway.
Ring, Ring, Hello…. Ring, Ring, A-Hello…! Yes is David there….? Ummm Hello….! No one is answering, I don’t understand…!
I could learn that offense in a few days.
I wonder if Seattle would part with Charlie Whitehurst.

Suck for Luck? Didn’t the Fins just get better?
Lex hilliard
I seen this happen before… wait, was it 2007 or 2009?
Is that Sage Rosenfels’ phone ringing?
Can they get a whole new team next year also?
the season certainly wont miss him
Dolphin fans may not want to hear it but, this is the best thing that could have happened. You didn’t trade away valuable draft picks and now you can use them on Luck and other needs. On top of it, you get a brand new coach.
Hey Miami…..you arent READY FOR SOME FOOTBALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL!!!!
Who cares? This guy is the worst qb in the league, if you put Betty White instead of this guy, she can do a better job.
Dangit, we wanted Luck.
John Beck need not apply.
The fins just got lucky.
No pun intended.
Dolphins running wild at
“Suck For Luck Race”
The only team in a more hopeless situation division-wise is Minnesota (bears, lions, packers). The dolphins won’t overcome the pats, jets, and now bills for a long time.
It’s inconceivable to me that any team would deliberately “suck for luck” because QB Roulette is too much of a gamble. Luck could be the next Ryan Leaf or Jamarcus Russell while the next Brady languishes until the sixth round. Meanwhile, a serviceable starting QB–Garrard–sits unemployed because the team would rather start a backup than promise to start a starter.
Bizarre.
I would argue this hurts the Dolphins in their pursuit of Luck.
Henne is brutal. No touch on short throws, can’t hit the long pass and absolutely incapable of getting the team in the end zone inside the opponents 20 (Marshalls stone hands notwithstanding). When he has to make a play, he will fail. He couldn’t even outplay Colt McCoy.
If the Dolphins had a legit chance at Luck for the next regime to draft, they needed Henne to steer the ship this year…..he guaranteed them almost 16 losses.
Matt Moore doesn’t want to see that Jets team on monday night after they have lost their third straight game. Dolphins had better have some backups for that game.
Dolphins will probably win a pointless game at the end of the season and cost them the #1 overall pick and miss out on Luck.
Even the fans on the dolphin threads are starting to pile on the vikes. Makes you feel kind of bad for them…
Suck for Luck? more like just suck all the time.
Please please please please please sign Jeff George…picking him up in fantasy football in 2011 would be freaking hillarious.
Feel bad for the kid, but if he’s a FA next year at least he escaped this trainwreck with nothing worse than a injured nonthrowing shoulder.
Phins should get another backup and let Moore have his shot… they’ll win 1 or 2….
then new coach, new GM, new O line…. andLuck
Actually Matt Moore may suprise a few down in Miami. Not gonna prevent them from drafting another QB, but may be the best option for the rest of the year.
JEFF GEORGE! JEFF GEORGE! JEFF GEORGE!
The Phins got better……. for next season !! There is always light at the end of the tunnel
The prayers of the Dolphins fans has been answered…
I am a Miami real estate agent and I plan on contacting Luck this afternoon
Brett Favre just moved to Brazil under the name Larry Stephensfiztgeraldenglewood for fear of being tempted by the dolphins
Sign Marino to a one year deal. Even in his advanced age, I’d bet he’s still a more effective QB than anybody else on Miami’s roster.
First bit of good news we got this season! The Chad Henne error is over in Miami! Too bad Ireland can’t be out for the season.
Matt Moore was the starter for Carolina last season and the Panthers ended up with the first pick in the draft.
Now with Moore taking over an 0-4 team it looks like he will lead the Dolphins to the #1 pick in the draft as well.
Maybe Amanda Knox is up to the task…seeing how she beat the murder rap and many freed criminals are allowed to play in the NFL
It’s gonna be really funny when Luck turns out to be a bust.
Kill two birds with one stone. Try the Spurrier/Wuerffel combo.
This may actually hurt their chances of landing Luck. Henne stinks.
Will Luck drag Cowher out of retirement? Weather is nice in Miami, Bill…
Seriously though. I feel bad for Henne. The games I saw of him were much better than I expected… I wish him a speedy recovery.
I wonder if Mannings mother can throw a ball. For f’s sake.
catman…you havent watched any of lucks games have you?
Andrew Luck is taking his talents to South Beach!
Im a matt moore fan. He may have bottomed out here in Charlotte, but I wish him well
First off, this regime doesn’t have to try to *Suck for Luck*, Ross’ cheap ways and his trust in Ireland will keep them in the race for Luck no matter what. Second, Luck and his dad may end up pulling an Elway/Eli Manning-type move where they refuse to play for Ross’ organization.
Third, if they get Luck, they most likely will not put him in a position to succeed.
And fourth, if they do get him and he does succeed, they will eventually lose him when his contract is up because they won’t do what’s needed to keep him. Unless, of course, Ross sells the team,

==================
That’s odd. Henne’s career stats are almost identical to Mark Sanchez’s.
You can look it up if you care to actually have an educated opinion for once in your life.
@wannstache
Ross has been a big spender in free agency since taking over the team. Did you forget that he made both Karlos Dansby & Brandon Marshall two of the highest paid players at there position?
Ross was also willing to make Harbough one of the highest paid coaches in the entire NFL. It’s not a matter of Ross spending money as it is to Ireland & Sparano not doing there jobs well.
Ross is going to bring in a high profile coach once the season ends and I find it hard to believe if it is Cowher that the “Chin” will not find a way to get this franchise on the right track.
Luck, Luck, Luck!!!
Can’t you just feel the fist pumping going up in the air!!!
No way Luck will be a JaMarcus Russell or Ryan Leaf. He could be another Peyton Manning. At worst he’s Eli Manning.
I don’t think teams should tank it but I would not go out of my way, if I was Miami, and sign Gerrard to go 6-10 and be pick 8th or 9th.
Descendency, You forgot the Redskins don’t have a QB either.
Don’t sleep on Matt Moore. When there is no pressure on him he plays lights out.
I’ve never been a fan of the guy and frankly if they were in a position to draft Luck, Barkley or Jones then I have no doubt that they would have done regardless of Henne’s status. They just needed this reason to replace him.

Did you watch any of Jamarcus Russell’s? You probably spent about as much time watching his games as you spent listening to the evidence against Amanda Knox, who was convicted for being American; there wasn’t one speck of forensic evidence against her. That’s why the appellate court made a point of saying her conviction was being overturned because she didn’t commit the crime, jackass. If only it could always be hate-filled, ignorant idiots like you who end up spending four years in prison for something they didn’t do.

Chad: IM IN A GLASS CASE FULL OF EMOTION
Uhhh…newsflash…Chad Henne has already missed every game this season…..he’s missed big.
@BreakfastBarron
We Dont need a QB bro
This is why Suck for Luck is a, STATISTICALLY, good strategy.
In the last 40 years….
32% of QB’s drafted at #1 have won a Super Bowl (6 of 19)
< 10% of QB’s drafted in the 1st round have won a Super Bowl (7 of 74)
Approx. 2.5% of QB’s drafted between Rnd 2 and Rnd 4 have won a Super Bowl
< 1% from here on down through Undrafted Free Agents .
…YES, there are Ryan Leaf's, J. Russells, and Tom Brady's out there. BUT, if you want to draft a QB that can take you to the promised land, #1 overall is by far the best chance you have.
Unfortunately, Brett Favre is waiting by his phone anticipating a call.
I woke up in a sweat out of a terrible nightmare about next year’s draft…

The commissioner steps up to the microphone and announces…
“With the first pick of the 2012 NFL draft…
The Miami Dolphins select…
Jacory Harris from the University of Miami.”

…but Casey Anthony – that B1tch is Guilty
Has anyone noticed how all the Bill Parcells is a real genius at building a team talk has now completely stopped?
Parcells passed on Matty Ice, and took Henne in the second round. And now, the Dolphins need a complete makeover, AGAIN, only 3 seasons after taking over the Dolphins, and leaving the Falcons standing at the alter.
I guess JJ was right the entire time……
Coming from a Pack fan, but to me there is just something sad when teams are rebuilding every single year. Hope they get a decent GM who gets Cowher or Fisher and get some talent evaluators and start to build something.
At least they still have Ray Finkle kicking for them.
“Do you kneeoooooowww the Dolphin? Does he call you at hommmmmme?
Oh!! Look out NFL here we come with Matt Moore and Sage freaking Rosenfels!! ……Thank goodness for our genius front office who thinks we can win games with one of these guys as our Starting qb. Well …hopefully they’ll be smart enough to take Andrew Luck with the No. 1 pick in next years draft. Although with thier track record I won’t hold my breath…….Better yet hopefully we’ll have a new G.M…..Bye bye Mr. Ireland!
I was hoping Indy would pick first in 2012.
They would draft Luck. who states he won’t play there. Then they could trade him to Denver for an Offensive lineman and their first round pick a-la Elway in 1983. Stranger things HAVE happened…..
@305phinphan…
Don’t be fooled by those two contracts. That was last year. This year, Ross has changed course and decided to operate on the cheap when it comes to team building. You won’t hear these things from most of the local because they don’t want to piss him off. Truth is, he and his front office are viewed as a joke among other NFL bigwigs and coaches. Today on Sirius Blitz he and his front office were lambasted by Schein for being too inept to sign a veteran QB in the offseason. Gannon went so far as to say that he’s talked to a number of coaches who would not work for Ross after the way he handled Harbaugh debacle. So if you think Cowher, who worked for a class organization in Pittsburgh, would work for Ross, think again. We’ll probably end up with Herm Edwards, since his buddy Carl Peterson loves him.
geetee52 brings up a good point… if the Fish have the first round draft pick next year… would they pick Luck?
I know that the rookie wage scale is in effect now… the front office *SHOULD* have *NO* excuse not to draft Luck if they have the first round pick in 2012… but then of course, this is the same front office that passed on Matt Ryan because he was expensive, but thought Ginn was worth a first round pick…
Somewhere, Bill Parcells is enjoying his retirement… no doubt desperately dodging reporters trying to ask him questions about this year’s Dolphins…
Anyone who thinks stephen Ross is an idiot needs a reality check, he has done what 90% of you wish you could, become a billionaire and bought a toy in the NFL. So shut it, as far as this teams problems, Wayne huizenga gave parcells the keys with a opt out with full pay clause, he bamboozled all of us fin fans. Ross did what any rational person would have , he trusted two time superbowl champion bill parcells, if he had played it any other way he would have been accused of chasing the tuna off. Now after last season Ross tried to upgrade at the head coaching spot unfortunately he was manipulated by Jim harbaugh and co who obviously leaked the story of their meetings to drive up his price in San Francisco where he wanted to be all along. Now after failing to replace sparano he did the rational thing in a lock out affected season he let sparano get one last hurrah in this mess of a lock out season and committed himself to not (follow closely here) allowing this lame duck regime remortgaging the house to save themselves. I think it’s savvy and brightens the long term future of the Miami dolphins. He’s not afraid to spend money just not spending foolishly, SEE THAT’S WHAT BILLIONAIRES DO risk assessment. Now you fantasy football madden playing loud mouths continue doing what you do, and leave the big boy work for the people who know what the hell they’re doing! Go Fins
Stephen Ross IS an idiot when it comes to being an NFL owner. As for his business ventures outside of football, I don’t know or really care. He could be a business genius, a crook, or he could have inherited or married into money. Don’t care. All I care is that he runs the Miami Dolphins like an bumbling idiot and he will eventually do even more damage to a once-proud franchise if he doesn’t either sell the team or turn over complete control to a proven NFL administrator. And Carl Peterson definitely does not fit that description.
