Frank Gore: 49ers kept pounding, Eagles quit

AP

San Francisco running back Frank Gore has a simple explanation for how the 49ers turned a 23-3 deficit into a 24-23 victory on Sunday in Philadelphia: The 49ers kept fighting, and the Eagles quit.

“I think playing that second half and the way we came out, the Eagles didn’t want to play no more,” Gore said on ESPN First Take.

Gore scored the game-winning touchdown with three minutes left, and he says he sensed that the Eagles just weren’t interested in playing 60 minutes of intense, physical football.

“We just kept pounding and kept pounding and making plays and we kind of knocked the fight out of them,” Gore said.

Gore is the latest to articulate what everyone in the NFL seems to be thinking: All that big-name talent in Philadelphia isn’t playing very hard right now.

  1. The Eagles quit because they are lazy, soft and think everyone else is going to pick them up. Hmmm, this kind of sounds like all those Occupy Wallstree DB’s.

  2. Sigh….i say fire andy reid or juan castillo(or both) because its becoming clearer everyday that this is a coaching problem. If we don’t beat the bills, then we’re done.

  3. yeah that and the fumble at the 1 as well as the eagles kicker doing his darndest to get cut

Well…I am an Eagles fan and I couldn’t agree more.

    C’mon Birds!

  5. Oh my…now players are gonna chime in…

    Pile on the Iggles!

I can’t help but hope that Gore and his 49’ers make the play-offs now…though it’s unlikely Gore will still be healthy if they do.

Sure, they won the game, but seriously…is that much of an accomplishment at this point? My Iggles are giving these games away…gift-wrapped even!

Congratz Frank…and the Niners and all their fans…I am glad you feel good about yourself in week 4.

Hope to see you down the road…my Iggles have dug themselves a hole…you are standing on the mole-hill.

    Watch your step.

    Go Eagles.

  6. Ok, we are saying all these things about the Eagles now but what will we say when they turn things around?

  7. proof you can’t just plug and play guys. They swung for the fences in FA, but missed. As a GB fan I still wish Jenkins was here tho lol

  8. One Eagles player said they were “laughing” at halftime, assuredly thinking they could coast for last 30 minutes.

    Oops.

  9. You shouldn’t gloat when you win.

Gore has an under .500 lifetime pro record so in the vast majority of the games he’s played HE was the one who quit and not the big tough guy that makes the other team quit. Right?

  10. the d-line is producing with sacks, but wide nine is supposed to filter everything inside. you need like 2 decent linebackers to play this defense a weak side lb to run stop and strong side lb to cover a tight end. We have 1 or none decent linebackers, so till the mlb can get off blacks and make some plays the sack total means nothing. Babin has 7 meaningless sacks and jenkins has 4, the each might as well have none.

  11. It’s going to be tough to fire your defensive coordinator in the middle of the season….I mean where are they going to find an offensive line coach to replace him?

Tough to beat when they aren’t a bunch of loyal, trusting, defenseless dogs.

     ———————————————————————————-

    Classless and cowardly comments.

  13. When you are Frank Gore, and you know you are only going to win 3-4 games a year, you have to puff out your chest after each one. That is all this is

  14. wait wait,, is there really a pac man jones fan trying to rip on someone for morality??

& yes everyone including Gore is right,, this team has no heart.. they released all the leaders in each of the past 3 years.. what do they expect.

now the team has taken on the identity of its doughy coach.. S O F T

yeah they spent a $hit ton of money in the offseason,, but it was only to address positions important to Andy Reid and his philosophies,, not to positions that make a solid defensive team..

They are stacked @ CB and DE.. they even went and got a presence at DT,, but then with genius thinking they moved that beast DT into a 5 technique & didnt spend a single penny on LBs..

one day Reid will wake up and realize he needs LBs to have a championship quality defense..

hopefully its on a sunday next year,, in the preseason,, and he turns the TV to channel the eagles are on

  15. wow, this coming from Frank Gore and the 49ers??? when is the last time they did anything??? oh yeah thats right 20 yrs ago ahahhahahah….we are 4 games in Gore, maybe you should worry about lasting a full season for a change, and if I recall Eagles were going to win until the last fumble…..I just call it like I see it….SF has been in the easiest division in football for the last decade….why dont you try winning the division first before you go runnin off at the mouth Gore….

  16. I think that this quote is the biggest help that anyone from another team can give the Eagles. If I was on that team, I would take that so personally, I probably would move into the Eagles facility until after the season is over.

What does Gore’s comments about the Eagles being gutless have anything to do with your comments?

    You mad, bro?

  18. ” the Eagles didn’t want to play no more”

SAN FRANCISCO NEEDS TO DRAFT A GRADE SCHOOL GRAMMAR TEACHER.

  19. Not having Quentin Mikell is really hurting them. They really underestimated him.

The longest tenured Eagle defender is Patterson and I’ve never heard him speak (except for after the seizure).

A lot of this is on Howie to me. It’s easy to sign players, but it’s hard to field a team.

  20. “…the Eagles didn’t want to play no more.”

Yet another brilliant line, but this was clearly stolen from Shakespeare!

(Frank Gore got an 8 on his Wonderlic exam)

  21. The dream team already packed their bags for Indy. They just forgot that you have to play the games first.
They may be playing hard, but the Eagles have no LBs, therefore teams are punishing them on the ground.

  22. I like how Gore is acting like they’re the second coming of the Montana era 49ers, when they needed 2 missed chip shots and a fumble at their 30 with 2 minutes left to have any chance to win the game. Congrats, Gore…let’s see where you’re at in December.

  23. Vick has infected this team with his lazy, the world owes me everything mentality.

Once Vick is gone, this team will win again. He drags everyone down with him. Toxic human being.

  24. The Eagles think it’s owed to them!

Just look at Vick’s attitude in the post game press conferences… this team reflects his character(or lack of!)

  25. @drew05

Good to see Eagle fans whine as much as your team does.

As a Niner fan…not feeling good. The Niners stink. BUT they still beat your Eagles.

  26. Yea I agree that the Eagles are underperforming, but they’re not soft. They play hard as hell for 3 quarters and then get too comfortable and think that the other team cant come back on them. If they were soft, then they’d be getting pounded for 4 quarters. And thats a fact. They just need to get passed the mindset that they’re unbeatable. I think 3 straight losses has humbled them. We’ll see on sunday. How many years have Andy Reids’ teams started out slow. 0-2, 2-3, 5-5-1. All playoff years. I honestly have no doubt that the Eagles will still make the playoffs. We’ll see who’s in the playoff chase in Nov. and Dec. Frank Gore can enjoy his 1 good game he’s had this season. I wonder if Gore believes that the 49er defense gave up and didnt want anymore of the cowboys when the cowboys rallied back and beat the 49ers??

  27. Gore has an under .500 lifetime pro record so in the vast majority of the games he’s played HE was the one who quit and not the big tough guy that makes the other team quit. Right?

So you think that Gore/49ers players are only players in the NFL that talks like this? man, you are in for a HUGE surprise.

  29. When a losing franchise like the 49ers start off so well, you’re going to hear stupid comments like Gore made. Problem is, they don’t look down the road and consider that when the close the season at 6-10 or 7-9 and the Eagles have surged to at least compete for a playoff spot, nobody is going to remember the one comeback you put together. Nevermind that you beat the Seahawks and the Bengals, barely, in your other two wins.

Good news for SF is that 6-10 or 7-9 might win that division.

    But keep it ‘Niner, Frank.

  30. Why do people keep making excuses for the 2 missed kicks? NEWSFLASH San Francisco had 2 kicks missed as well! One was shanked, the other blocked which should’ve actually had a flag for another defender spring-boarding off a lineman. Save the sorry excuses for your team under achieving!

  31. As far as Vick is concerned, of course he has become a total, lazy d-bag again. He got his big contract….. that was his only motivation to rebuild his image and play well. Now he could care less once again

  32. You guys need to simmer down on the praising of Alex Smith. He’s one of the worse qbs who should’ve been benched. He 1-30 in having an overall good game..if I was a 9ers fan no way ill want that bum to start …..

  33. Yankees, Eagles, Redskins, Red Sox… teams just never seem to learn that from a cost to production ratio, free-agency is a losing formula.

Like playing the lottery or going to the casino, the more you play, the more you lose.

  34. How can this be true? I am a Redskins fan and I always thought that the one sure thing in football is that a game with Philly is always a knock-down, drag-out, punch-em-in-the-mouth, hard violent fist fight.

Ever since the infamous “body bag” game, it has been like that. And now I read that Philly quit? Someone on this message board went so far as to call the Eagles “Soft?” What the heck is going on?

I think I just saw a pig fly by my window and a New York Times editorial praising the Tea Party.

  35. GOLDRUSH, Apparently you are a fairweather fan and probably didnt even watch the game. You found out the 9ers won and now you want to run your mouth. If you HAD watched the game, you would have realized that Vick had a career high in passing yards and had 491 total yards and 2 TDs. That doesnt sound like a “lazy” performance.

Please point out where in this article Gore says anything about being the second coming of the Montana-esque Niners….Gore was asked a question, and he answered simple as that. Also, No one is saying the Eagles didn’t blow the game…they did, why? because they were up by 20 at half and thought they could coast through the rest of the game, like Gore is saying.
Its obvious that you are butt-hurt about the loss and I can’t blame you…but you also gotta understand that this 49ers D is pretty good. Bowman and Willis are the best MLB tandem in the game right now this year. Something Andy Reid should maybe invest in one day if he really wants to win a SB.

Did Philadelphia win? I must’ve missed that part… and that kind of yardage is hardly an accomplishment against the secondaries we’ve had over the past 10 years. How many yards did McCoy have by the way? It was a one dimensional game period. Oh and how exactly does that constitute as a fair weather fan anyway? Please ask Mr Santa Clause for a dictionary pinhead. Lazy was his approach to the 2nd half, the press conference, everything that has happened since. Jay Cutler puts up some monster games occasionally. His heart and passion for the game are still questioned DAILY! Romo, same difference…. Oh and quit polluting this state with your stupidity. There is already enough whacko’s in form of our politicians

  38. The point of lazy was he is playing nowhere near, nor is he even trying to play at the level he did last year before he got his deal…. that’s a fact.

  39. Vick played extremely well last Sunday…

Better than he played in any game last season, save for the Washington debacle…

Vick has had one bad game this season in my opinion…that was the game they lost.

Not a big fan of Vick…personal life aside…his game, while at times amazing, doesn’t look to be consistant enough to beat good teams…in the play-offs. Where I still see my Iggles being.

That being said…can’t blame him for any of the 3 losses…ball security has been the only thing holding the Eagles back.

LB play has been bad…if we don’t fumble…it wouldn’t have mattered.

OL has been MUCH better recently…was good against SF…if we don’t fumble…it don’t matter.

    Yes, I say we…sorry.

This team has been humbled to the extreme…Buffalo has a freight train coming.

    It starts Sunday in Buffalo.

    Go Eagles.

he said acting like he didn’t quote him please pay attention

  41. @omega49
I am paying attention but how is acting like it??? By answering a question?
No where in his response does he even make an inkling as to what his perception on this years squad is. All he said was 49ers played for 60 minutes, Eagles didn’t. How is that acting like they are the next coming of the Montana years.

Please educate me since your so smart….

  42. All you people calling the eagles soft, lazy and have no heart must follow the eagles intensely, read every article that start with vick or eagles, and pay close attention to all of their games or you guys are just speaking from a bunch of hate. There is a reason why you are here and not playing football you’re not hard enough and you have no heart and you lazy too.

  44. Dallassux… classless and cowardly=what Vick did to those dogs for TWO YEARS before he got caught. Classless and cowardly=how Vick re-paid Falcons’ owner Aurther Blank treating him like a son. Classless and cowardly= Vick flipping Falcons’ fans off when they had the nerve to boo. Classless and cowardly= oh, nevermind…if you don’t get it by now, you never will. Go ahead and keep defending Vick’s “honor.”

  45. as a bills fan i think the eagles will be ready to put an ass whoopin on buffalo. if vick starts to break contain early then its going to be a long day at the ralph. i am going to need some extra crown royals and ginger before going to my seat. good luck bills.

  46. EAGLES had that game in the bag…BUT..

#1 They don’t know how to manage the clock.

    #2 They don’t know what a RB is for… instead they think he’s a 4th wide receiver.

#3 They don’t know how to tackle in open space.

#4 They BLITZ too much which is obvious to opposing offensive schemes to counteract.

#5 They PASS way too much which wears down their own offensive line because it is better to HIT than be HIT.

#6 They don’t know that POINTZzzz win games not YARDzzzz!!!

As a 49erz FAN…your GUYZ were as FRANK said “GUTLESS!!!” because your EGO’s are bigger than your results.

  47. @dstep24

    “losing franchise like the Niners”?

Football didn’t start 9 years ago. I believe my team has 5, and your team has 0. I believe the Eagles run the west coast offense? I believe the Niners were pioneers in perfecting that 30 years ago. I believe Andy Reid and Marty Morningweg has coaching tree ties to the Niners.

Sad thing is these are not beliefs, but facts.
