Rosenfels beat out five others for Fins gig

Thomas Williams, Sage Rosenfels AP

The Miami Dolphins recently signed quarterback Sage Rosenfels to replace Chad Henne on the roster, given that Henne will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury.

Rosenfels, as it turns out, beat out a quintet of other quarterbacks.

Per a league source, the Dolphins gave tryouts to six passers become settling on Rosenfels.  In addition to Sage, the Fins kicked tires on:  Kellen Clemens, Charlie Frye, J.P. Losman, Brett Ratliff, and Jim Sorgi.

Um.  Charlie Frye?

Um, Jim Sorgi? I mean, he’s my dawg from his time on my beloved Colts but the arm ain’t what it used to be.

Charlie Frye is one of the smarter QB’s you’ll find, he’d make a really good coach, but he just doesn’t have the physical tools.

Miami is a dumpster fire on methahol.

Apparently the regime took the “Suck for Luck” mantra to heart, not realizing that they themselves would be jettisoned if Miami were lucky/tragic enough to land the Stanford standout.

What, Jeff George didn’t get a look? Considering the less than stellar QB’s they brought in, Dolphin fans can’t be too pleased

  16. eaglesw00t says: Oct 7, 2011 11:00 AM

Thats a terrible list of washed up never was players.

But…considering we are in week 4 of the season, any player worth a darn is already on a roster. Good QBs dont just hang out at the golf course and wait for starters to go down. Shame on the Dolphins for being stuck with the slop that was already on their roster.

  17. shallowfan says: Oct 7, 2011 11:03 AM

They aren’t going to pay a QB this season. They are going to try and draft a QB for the future (again) in the first round and pay him. Then begin to build a team around him…at least this is what they should do.

This season is a throw away season dolphin fans…I think you might even lose your coach and front office in the process. It doesn’t seem like they know what they are doing (I think the hc already said that publicly too at one point).

  21. cantonbound13 says: Oct 7, 2011 11:10 AM

You know it’s bad when Jake Delhomme turns down a chance to workout for your team. Nobody wants to play for a team that has Ireland as a GM. Our owner doesn’t notice this, very sad!

  22. pigskinswag says: Oct 7, 2011 11:13 AM

Kellen Clemens, Charlie Frye, J.P. Losman, Brett Ratliff, and Jim Sorgi – Combined 61 touchdown passes and 75 interceptions.

The starting five for the Miami Heat would have offered better competition to Sage Rosenfels.

  26. The Phantom Stranger says: Oct 7, 2011 11:32 AM

I think we’re looking at the strong possibility of an 0-16 season, which is clearly their goal.

  27. whoknowsnothing says: Oct 7, 2011 11:35 AM

Why didn’t Duante Culpepper get a call?

Shoot, they should have given the Arizona Rattlers QB a call, at least he won the Arena Bowl.

  28. whoknowsnothing says: Oct 7, 2011 11:36 AM

Kellen Clemens, Charlie Frye, J.P. Losman, Brett Ratliff, and Jim Sorgi = 1st overall pick in 2012 draft = Andrew Luck

  29. kingokra says: Oct 7, 2011 11:41 AM

What about Daunte Culpepper? Just be glad you’re not a Dolphins fan. Dark days indeed. After looking at that list, is there any doubt the owner is on the “Suck for Luck” plan? On the upside, they’d still probably beat the Eagles with any one of those guys at qb.

Ummm, actually since DEREK Anderson is currently on the Panthers roster, it would tampering if the Fins worked him out…

  31. mvpanthersfan11 says: Oct 7, 2011 11:45 AM

@galvestontexans well considering DA is cam’s backup, it’s kinds of hard for the phins to give him a workout

  32. kellyb9 says: Oct 7, 2011 11:48 AM

@phinfan – I don’t think its a matter of being cheap. If anybody out on the streets was good, they’d already be playing for an NFL team. I’ve never quite understood why you don’t take a chance on an undrafted free agent or a 3rd stringer. Rosenfels might get you a win… maybe, but maybe if you go with my method, you might hit on someone who’s better.

Clearly all the HC and OC around the NFL that are bum rushing Frye’s agent to get him signed and on a team are an indicator that they are impressed with him. My apologies.
