Browns defensive lineman Benard hurt in motorcycle accident

Browns defensive lineman Marcus Benard was hurt in a motorcycle accident on Monday following the team’s practice, according to multiple reports in Cleveland.

Benard reportedly crashed into a wall on I-71 and was taken to a nearby hospital. The team confirmed the news, but not a lot of other information is available about a story which is too familiar for Browns fans.

We’ll update the situation as we learn more, hopefully with good news that Benard comes out of the crash healthy.

What was a wall doing in the middle of an interstate highway?

I think I can speak for all of Steelers Nation in praying that he is ok.

Sounds like Marcus Benard has a rocky road ahead….

    Hmmm…

…same old, same old. Davis, Crennel, Mangini, Shurloss…no rules, just right!

Hope Benard is okay, but chalk the origin of even riding a motorcycle in the first place as yet another example of the summer camp structure of the entire Clowns organization.

    wow rule number 1..

you don’t ride motorcycles while under contract with a professional sports team..

  7. cowboyhater says: Oct 10, 2011 5:02 PM

Really? Riding motorcycles while under contract. I can’t feel sorry for these guys when they live their lives irresponsibly, especially when this is not the first time this has happened. You would think they would learn this lesson, but apparently not.

He apparently broke his arm. Hope that is all. Get well soon Marcus! We need you.

Hoping that he’s ok and recovers quickly. Get well soon Marcus.

As said above, doesn’t every pro sports contract say that riding a motorcycle is not allowed? And that if you are injured, you do not get paid? Or allowed benefits?

I-71 ,4 lane highway 55-65mph area hope he is ok.

Without knowing the whole story, just chiming with my 2 cents (because that’s what you do on message boards), but…

Never understand why some of these guys will get on these crotch-rockets and go 120 mph and not wear a helmet.

All about the thrill of feeling the wind blow through your hair or something, never makes any sense.

Just talk to someone who’s ever worked in a hospital or a convalescent home for the brain-damaged to see the true tragedy in it all.

This guy had a chance to be a starter this year, but showed up to camp about 25 lbs overweight and hasn’t yet gotten in games shape. Now he’s flying around on a crotch-rocket during the season. Knucklehead!

They cut out part of the story “….. Marcus was left behind by his riding coach, Ben Roethlisberger, who was later found with a can of oil on his person”.

  15. NoWearMan says: Oct 10, 2011 6:23 PM

There are generally walls on the interstate to separate the opposing lanes of traffic. Ricardo Tinypecker is more like it.

re: “Hope Benard is okay, but chalk the origin of even riding a motorcycle in the first place as yet another example of the summer camp structure of the entire organization”. I fixed it for you, Brownsfrown.

Should’ve learned from winslow… Oh and that steeler qb Ben… Hope its just a broken arm and nothing more seious… good luck…

Staph infections or motorcycle accidents. The two biggest happenings with the Browns in recent years there.

  19. td40 says: Oct 10, 2011 7:01 PM

What’s really a shame is that he should be starting over Jaime Mitchell. Maybe if he were starting, he’d have better sense to stay off of motorcycles on the highway.

Either way, hope his arm gets better fast.

@wryly1 he wasn’t overweight/out of shape, he packed on some muscle cuz he’s going from OLB to DE. But they didn’t tell him not to because of the lockout. Way to make him sound like a lazy bastard, which is far from the truth.

    Was he following Winslow?

Dangerous behavior and motor vehicles. RIP Chris Henry. Benard wasn’t paying attention.
