Chargers sign Gerald Hayes, place Stephen Cooper on IR

Gerald Haye AP

In late August, veteran Chargers linebacker Stephen Cooper suffered a torn biceps.  Despite initial reports that he’d be placed on injured reserve, Cooper tried to play with the injury.

And Cooper indeed played, appearing in all five games.  But the Chargers have now placed him on injured reserve.  The team announced the move.

He has been replaced on the active roster by Gerald Hayes, an eight-year veteran who spent his entire career with the Cardinals.

I guess the Chargers don’t concern themselves much with their player’s health. I bet half the team should be on IR.

It doesn’t matter who they sign. Chargers are not going to compete for the AFC west this year. Look at where their wins have come from.

they have a top rated defense hope this weakens them up so raiders can run the west

Hayes is a thumper in the middle. Had a back problem last year. If he is healthy, the Bolts got a good pick up.

To count the Chargers out now because they won against losing teams and won games they should of won is, well, plain dumb. They one quality opponent they played (the Patriots) they almost won.

Besides the Patriots, Bills and Ravens (who still look mortal) the AFC is pretty much open. Its the NFC that looks dominant.
