Dhani Jones retires

Linebacker Dhani Jones, an eleven-year NFL veteran who started every game for the Bengals from 2008 through 2010, has retired from pro football.  Jones announced the decision in a message posted at his website, DhaniJones.TV.

Jones entered the league with the Giants in 2000.  After four seasons in New York, he signed with the Eagles.  After three seasons in Philly, he finished his career with four seasons in Cincinnati.

Jones started in Super Bowl XXXIX for the Eagles.

His retirement announcement matches the complexity and layers of the man who branched out beyond football long before retiring from the game.  It’s delivered into a hand-held camera, confidently and proudly, from an airport.

We’ve got a feeling that we won’t be hearing the last of Dhani Jones.  And we like that.

Congratulations, Dhani, on a great career.

  1. Always a class player that came, played the game and left it all on the field. He always played his game in a respectable and professional manner. Congrats Dhani and good luck in your future endeavors! If the HOF let guys in on character alone, you would be a 1st ballot entry!

  2. Every sports station will want this guy to work for them. Smart, funny, well-spoken, and charismatic. Congratulations, Dhani.

  3. He is a good dude, but his mind seemed to be on photography and reading poetry to the birds and the bees instead of picking up Foxy’s defense and that joke that Johnnie Lynn called a defense.

  4. A great player and a classy guy. Despite what some may say about his play in Philly, I really liked the guy.

  5. Leave a message. “Dhani? It’s Carson. RETIRE NOW, it’s the only way to shed Mike Brown. We can both get the hell OUT OF HERE. Next year we’re living phat on Miami beach.”

  6. So talking to the camera in my cell phone, killing time in a half empty airport waiting for my flight, will demonstrate the complexity and layers of the man I have become.

    Got it.

Somehow I thought it would be more difficult.

  7. wow….a football player with a brain! now he can take those long road trips brian u. as soon as the bears season ends which should be week 17? yeah, sounds about right.

  8. Dude had a good attitude, he always set a great example, not to mention his show wasn’t half bad. I kinda wish Miami would have picked him up he’s a winner in my book. F*ck all the haters on here… you guys can’t wait for the next topic to hate on huh? seriously some of you need to seek counseling. Hopefully we will see Dhani as a commentator

  9. The League just lost one of its elite – the 7th best linebacker in the league.

  10. Dhani Jones… Great? Did I miss something? Don’t get me wrong – he was productive/decent but don’t get carried away.

  11. This is one jersey I will always be proud to wear. Class act Mr. Jones. We’ll miss you in Cincy. Good luck on your new adventures. See ya down the road.

  12. Nothing was more infuriating that seeing him mock play the banjo after making his one and only tackle for the game which was for a 10 yard game. But, he’s a nice guy, good luck.

    eigglesnosuperbowls says “He Stunk”.

Seriously? I dont think any Eagles fans have the right to say anything about anyone right now.
    =====================================

No, regardless of what the current team is doing on the field he definitely stunk when he played here.

  14. Love the haters….get a life.

Solid player, high character guy, smart, funny, leaving the game with his senses intact, a nice fat bank account, and the ability to make a living doing whatever he really enjoys doing.

    Wait, now I hate him……………………

  15. while he was ok with nyg, he did very little his time in philly. perhaps the scheme in cincy worked better for him. in philly he was appeared more interested in the post-nfl career than anything else.

  16. yo red: you better bring more than your rifle if you want people in philly to stop caring or complaining. since you probably are a bengals fan, enjoy your success (such as it is) while it lasts. but don’t expect us to suffer in silence. that ain’t how we roll…………………….

p.s.: to the loon above, even dhani himself doesn’t think he’s the 7th best linebacker in the nfl. maybe in the cfl… or the afl…

  17. Congratulations, Dhani, on a great career.
