Reid is a very good coach --- but the extraordinarily high expectations of late have incited the Philadelphia morons .... much like the wrath meted out on Terry Francona after the Red Sox' September nosedive.

Boston and Philly. Two miserable cities populated with more than their fair share of unsufferable buffoons and 315 pound know-it-alls.

At least Boston won some hardware ......... but somehow but for a fleeting moment, that didn't seem to make the chowds any less bitter.

That region has a permanent case of red ass.

The fact is that Andy Reid is in uncharted territory this season. Not since his 1st year in 1999 has the Eagles record been this bad. I'm throwing away the 2005 season where McNabb missed half the season with a sports hernia and T.O. ripped the team apart with his antics. This team's defense is bad...even horrible, but the real reason they've lost 4 straight games is because of all of the turnovers on offense. Cut those in half and the team is sitting at 5-0 now.

Yes, I'm looking for a site that coddles me and tells me everything is going to be okay. That's why I take issue with PFT's lack of relevant football coverage. Knucklehead.

@realitypolice

You're still missing the point. It isn't that the Eagles 1-4 start isn't news. The problem is simply that PFT has rarely shown the inclination to treat any story with relevant, useful knowledge of the game. I can only guess that this trend isn't accidental, that it has more to do with readers like yourself, but as far as I know it could be that they are wholly incapable. Who knows. Who cares. Every now and again PFT runs a good article, and they're generally pretty fast, which is why I still come here.

Nice talking with you both.

It always amazes me that people from other cities knock Philly fans for demanding a championship and for not being happy with simply a 10-6, 11-5 record and a one game exit from the playoffs. Been there, done that. What’s the point. Hanging an NFC East Banner is a joke. Eight teams do that every year in the NFL…Some organizations may be happy with sustained winning, but it gets old when your last game always ends in a defeat. Like being the bridesmaid but never the bride.
=====================================

And at the same time they brag about their own team having Super Bowl wins while the Eagles don't have any, as if it's a personal accomplishment that they played a part in. I guess you can have it both ways.

@realitypolice

I’ll sum it up for you in 8 words: Because they run the same stories every day.

I don’t necessarily blame PFT. Their readership is by and large teenage boys who want a little drama with their football.

----------------------------------

I get it. You're upset with the constant stories about the Eagles collapse and think PFT and it's readership should move on and focus their attention elsewhere, right?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you picked the wrong site. You're looking for a site that coddles the Eagles and lets everyone know things are going to be alright, and this ain't the site for that. Man up and take the beating or go away - the stories won't go away and neither will the readership that wants the "drama". Wuss.

Reid sounded like he was toast during his press conference yesterday. He went through the rote “we’ve gotta get better, and the coaches and I will talk”, but he didn’t seem to believe it and had a haunted look in his eyes.

The last time I saw a coach seem so on the brink was Childress last year and he was gone about 5 weeks later.

They say the ownership/management wouldn’t cut him out during the season, but if the Eagles keep this up, he will be gone at the end of the year. He is looking cracked at this point.
==================================

Yeah, I noticed that too. And he talked a helluva lot more than usual as though he was pleading his case with the Philly fans (C'mon, please. Just give me a break).

deadeye says:
I wonder if we can officially state once and for all that signing Vick to a $100,000,000 contract was an epic mistake.

The dude was NEVER a serious NFL QB. He was a top, top athlete lining up at QB.

I am not sure if Laurie was on a three-week bender this offseason, but the Vick signing was probably the most ridiculous he made this offseason. Despite what his fanbois say, Vick has never played at an elite level. He is an average passer with a rocket arm and the accuracy of a snub-nosed revolver. When he was young he could rush for mega-yards, but now that he has lost a step with age, he is nowhere as elusve as he once was. Vick had a career year last season, but they are called "career years" for a reason; they happen only once or twice in a career (much like Brett Favre's first season with the Queens). Combine this silliness with trying to Snyder a Lombardi with a bunch of high-priced free agents and no off-season for them to sync, and the Eagles are going to be sitting at the bottom of the East in salary cap hell for the next few seasons.

One could surmise from this ridiculous spending spree resulting in a 1-4 start that maybe Laurie should lay off the Grey Goose during the offseason. However, the more esoteric among us believe that hiring an overrated, psychopatic animal killer likely wasn't the greatest idea to ensure long-term success overall. Time and time again, karma proves to be a mean-spirited bitch, my friend.

"Skins fan here. I don’t understand why everyone is trying to blame Vick."

Think you just answered your own question. Championship QBs either don’t have those flaws, or fix them. QBs with persistent flaws who don’t fix them are second-rate QBs, which is what Vick is.

------------------------------------------

While I agree with your kevpft logic, I do not agree with your statement. Vick has been losing the ball less and less with total fumbles and with interceptions. You talk about flawless QB's or ones who fix? How about Trent Dilfer QB'ing the 2000 Ravens to a SB win plus tons of flaws? How about Eli Manning possessing many flaws and leading the NYG to a SB win? Brad Johnson while in Tampa winning a SB? You can't say that those listed QB's were flawless...or worked on their flaws to the point they wont the SB. They were on good balanced teams on all sides of the ball. Philly is not a good balanced team this year, so I'm saying stop blaming Vick...especially when he is balling more than anyone else on the team.

Obviously some fans still find it amusing. We get that you don’t.

Doesn’t mean others don’t enjoy the eagles falling apart & the Dream Team thing. You can complain about it all you like, it isn’t gonna change it.

I won't begrudge anyone for ripping on the Birds. Most Eagles fans have been doing the same. My original comment was that recycling the same old tired jokes isn't much fun when there's so much material to pick from. "Dream Team"? "Nightmares"?
Reid sounded like he was toast during his press conference yesterday. He went through the rote "we've gotta get better, and the coaches and I will talk", but he didn't seem to believe it and had a haunted look in his eyes.

The last time I saw a coach seem so on the brink was Childress last year and he was gone about 5 weeks later.

They say the ownership/management wouldn't cut him out during the season, but if the Eagles keep this up, he will be gone at the end of the year. He is looking cracked at this point.

This happens every year in Philadelphia. Maybe not as loud, but every loss calls for some people to scream that they should fire Reid.

I will say that this could be the first year where the expectations were too high. Part of that is because Howie signed every name that was out there, naively. In other words, I pin this on Howie, too. You can say Juan is inexperienced, but he's in the room for every meeting. Howie hasn't been around even 2 years.

The point about expectations being too high is that Reid has been a master media manipulator. This team has always exceeded expectations, starting with the playoff run in 2000. No one saw that coming. No one saw 'going to 5 straight NFC championship games' coming. Especially from a no-name position coach like Reid.

The Reid era is defined by being good, but not good enough. Everyone knew they were good. This year, the signings threw them off. In other words, if they had done nothing, they'd be a 9-10 win team. That's the frustrating part.

It got out of hand (with Howie throwing Reid all these guys) because of the lockout and its timing. If they signed these players in a normal offseason, with the right prep time, they'd be a much different team. Reid is a top-2 offensive mind in this league, for the most part.

The front office let Reid make big changes in the offseason. It would be foolish and counterproductive of them to give him only a few games to get them sorted out. If you hire someone else, you're even further in the hole.

The guy won the division just last year and has been consistently successful - he deserves the balance of the season to try to pull the team out of this. He shouldn't be run out of town because of the typical fan opinion that the only two possible results to a season are Super Bowl win and utter failure. If he can't get this fixed and they go 5-11, then fine, we can talk about it then. But firing the coach midseason is always a panic move.
