Julius Peppers has a sprained MCL

Atlanta Falcons v Chicago Bears Getty Images

Bears defensive end Julius Peppers was in and out of Monday night’s game in Detroit, which was just one of many reasons why the Bears looked so hopeless.

Vaughn McClure of the Chicago Tribune reports that Peppers suffered a sprained MCL in the game. He has not been ruled out for Sunday night’s game against the Vikings and was able to finish the game in Detroit.

“The severity of Peppers’ MCL sprain is unclear but not believed to be serious,” McClure writes.

MCL sprains can keep players out anywhere from 1-3 weeks depending on the severity. Sometimes players return right away. Peppers missed two games at the end of 2007 with the injury.

Considering Peppers’ huge role on the Bears, we’d expect Lovie Smith to keep Peppers’ status a mystery until gametime.

McKinnie is excited, because now he can imagine that he can block Peppers.

For once, the Lions have sent the Bears’ season into a death spiral rather than the other way around.

Bears suck with or without him! Go 9ers!

Maybe some karma for just about every bears fan wishing he would hurt stafford? Probably not but I’m shocked at how people would rather see other players hurt then just under preform. Hope he gets better but I hope the bears underperform all season.

    And he finished the game???

Wow, it’s not like it was the NFC Championship or anything…

Isn’t that the injury Cutler had in the NFC Championship last year? I recalled Peppers coming back and playing through the injury on Monday Night though

The difference between Peppers and Sally Cutler is Peppers has heart and Cutler does not. Go Pack Go!

  15. dfeltz says: Oct 12, 2011 10:37 AM

Peppers came back to play in that game on 3rd downs. And when he did, didn’t even get close to Stafford. Cutler, who has to play every snap, did try and play because the injury occurred in the second quarter and continued through till halftime and took the first series in the 3rd quarter. I am no Cutler fans, but people on here just hate on people just to hate. over 50% of the time people just make things up on here anyway.

  16. bigperm33 says: Oct 12, 2011 10:38 AM

What do you mean you expect the Bears to keep Peppers’ status a mystery until game time? I thought the Patriots were the only team that was not forthcoming about injuries.

  17. sikoix says: Oct 12, 2011 10:44 AM

This will definitely give McNabb more time to make awful passes to whoever the checkdown option is.

Maybe you should become more knowledgable about offseason moves, before you make an attempt at humor. Yes the matador did a good interprutation of a revolving door to Peppers in the past…fortunately he hasn’t been a Viking since the 2nd or 3rd day of training camp.

Hold up just a second. I’d like to give you the benefit of the doubt for misreading, but I think you’re generalizing at best, but likely full of meatball-y crap.

I don’t recall reading anyone ever wishing Stafford hurt. The only recurring themes that fans–Bears and other–I’ve seen that even come close are “Let’s see if Stafford doesn’t get hurt” and in response to the whole Suh-is-dirty topic, “How would you feel if that was someone doing that to Stafford?”

If you remember one or two a$$hats saying something different (and they would be if they wished that), that is different than “for just about every bears fan.”

Better watch your own karma, bub.

  24. comeonnowguys says: Oct 12, 2011 11:18 AM

“Suh-is-dirty” should have been “is-Suh-dirty.” My kingdom for an edit button.

  25. Rex Grossman says: Oct 12, 2011 11:20 AM

What we are seeing with the Bears right now is something I like to call “The Rex Grossman Curse”. The Bears have not returned to the Super Bowl since getting rid of Rex, and they will not do so for maybe 80-100 years, depending on other curses that may arise such as “The Roy Williams Curse” which formed by the signing Roy Wiliams setting the franchise back even futher. We may be talking “rebuilding stage” for the next 150 years or more. That being said, not all is lost. The Bears organization can not reverse this curse, the damage is done, but they may be able to minimize it with certain practices, such as “The Sacrificing of the Mike’s”. Martz and Tice…must die.

Check out my book “The Rex Grossman Curse” for a closer look at this extraordinary scandal that is rocking Chicago to it’s core.

However I cannot release this book until Rex Grossman wins a Super Bowl with another team. Otherwise it doesn’t really make much sense. Go Rex!

Fire Angelo now ! Hire a new G.M. now so he has time to get a close up look at the organization from top to bottom and be ready to make the changes needed to get this team on track to compete for a championship! This bears team is terrible in so many ways most of the starters on this team would not even make the roster on teams like the Packers, Patriots, and yes even Detroit. We have become the bottom feeders in the NFC Central. Please don’t let Angelo have another draft ! It’s about winning the Championship not making the playoffs only to get your but kicked by a truly quality team. Papa Bear has turned over in his grave so many times he doesn’t know up from down. This team of disfunctional misfits is going no where fast. The McCaskey Family should be embarressed to show their faces in public. Bear Fans who don’t understand this team is going no where need to wake up and demand more!

I’m no fan of Cutler’s, but Peppers returned to the game and had to leave again, precisely what Cutler did in the NFC Championship game.

I agree with you whole-heartedly, but I also love the irony in you making up a statistic on people making things up!

Here’s hoping for a full recovery! Take your time, Julius! It’d be nice to lose a couple more games because of your absence, get a higher draft pick, and then spend it on another lineman that needs back surgery or another Michael Haynes…

    comeonnowguys,
Really sorry Bub. Not all bears fans i couldnt put a number on it but the rate which i saw comments like peppers hurting stafford on here and ESPN’s board was alarming. I want the bear/packers/vikings healthy but i hope they play under their abilities. It might be your bears blinders on but i heard a lot of i hope stafford gets hurt. Now on the flip side they’re are lions fans who want to see cutler hurt and that makes me mad both ways bub. i like calling you bub its suppose to be a nice thing but it sounds so insulting right?

You Bear fans that are thinking that the season is over are a complete joke and I wish we could funnel you away from the team somehow. The biggest cancer to the Bears organization is most likely the fans. The haters will always be there, which is expected since we have the most wins in the history of the game and have teh 2nd most titles. The Bear hate isnt much different than Ny Yankee hate, when you win so much its hard to be liked.
The Bears were finished last year too after that 17-3 loss to the Giants werent they? Yeah going to the Nfc Championship means we stink..Yea ok..We have been to a Superbowl and Nfc Championship in the last 5 years and not many teams can claim that. Everything is fine in Chi Town we just played shorthanded every week but week one so far. When Carimi, Spencer, and Bennet come back the team will be a completely different team. We have such an easy schedule we might only lose a few more games. Bear fans get a clue and realize were not going to go 15-1 every year. It doesnt matter. We will slide into the playoffs and take things from there. Everybody gets so excited so early it’s quite comical.

  33. rexsuperbowl06 says: Oct 12, 2011 12:21 PM

Bears had the Packers beat with a 3rd string qb and with no help fromm the refs in last years Nfc Championship game..Im far from worried..

  34. rexsuperbowl06 says: Oct 12, 2011 12:28 PM

Does everyone realize we just played Ryan, Brees, Arod, Cam, and Stafford all in a row? Wait till we play Mcnab, freeman, tebow, campbel, whitehurst, mcnab again, cassell. Things will be different here very soon

  35. jutts says: Oct 12, 2011 12:40 PM

Man, there are a lot of jealous people out there. OK the Bears are in deep trouble. They are in the same boat as the Lions were under Matt Millen. Jerry Angelo is worse. Please George, listen to the fans, media and the rest of the league. You team is turning into the laughing stock of the league. “Angelo Must Go”… He has no credability, no talent and not a clue when it comes to personell.

The general public’s sympathy for your long time suck team will wear off pretty quickly the moment you become Jets fans.

Wow, where to start? Most wins in history and the 2nd most titles? That shouldn’t be hard since they are the oldest team in the league (1920).

I wouldn’t say “such an easy schedule” either. You are obviously planning on only losing to the Packers and Lions (again), totally discounting the Raiders, Bucs, Vikes, Seahawks, Chargers, and Eagles. Last I checked, none of those teams are the Rams.

And please, playing “shorthanded”? When you lose Peppers for a few plays or your rookie tackle for 4 weeks? Waaah, cry me a river, Bears fan! Please talk to Rams and Giants fans about “playing shorthanded”. Those are teams that had starters on IR to start the season. That is “playing shorthanded”.
