Anyone who follows Pats receiver Chad Ochocinco on Twitter realized today that, for the first time since September 24, Ochocinco posted a new entry.
“Ok I can finally tweet again,” Ochocinco said earlier today, “what have I missed the past 2 weeks besides that f--king pass [in] Buffalo? Talk about bad timing, talk to me peeps?”
The question becomes why was he unable to tweet? And then the question becomes why is he now able to do so?
The typically loquacious Ochocinco has been far quieter since joining the Patriots, and recent comments from Raiders coach Hue Jackson regarding the manner in which he handled Chad in Cincinnati makes us wonder whether the “Patriot Way” is keeping Chad from getting the most out of his talents by restricting his individuality.
With nine catches for 136 yards on the season and a surprising lack of playing time, it’s hard to imagine that Chad will be back in 2012. And it’s hard to envision him not joining Jackson with the Raiders, where Chad’s unique personality will be celebrated, not stifled.
UPDATE 10:43 p.m. ET: Apparently, Chad gave up Twitter because he lost a bet, or something. Either way, he isn’t the same guy he was on Twitter before he joined the Patriots. And anytime people are forced to consciously suppress who they really are, it potentially has an impact in other ways.
