Cam Newton has not only broken almost every rookie qb record he could get his hands on so far, he has simply torched them. The long Steve Smith pass Sunday was a very rare pass. The margin of error was amazing and the window was literally tiny, Newton laid it in his hands with double coverage all over Smith. Think of it this way…Cam’s pass to Smith was about the same as Cam throwing a ball 50 yards into a shoebox moving 20 mph….Amazing.

Football fans are actually seeing something special in Carolina with Newton. The Panthers will shore up the defense in the offseason and they will contend very shortly. Simply Imagine if Newton had Smith and a Wes Welker type on the field at the same time…The front office will get him another 1a wideout this offseason. The Panthers actually made their hardest trade push going after Santana Moss after the lockout, thinking Moss was the wide receiver most like Smith they could have gotten…Funny how that did not work.

The ironic thing is now matter how you dice it Andy Luck, who snubbed the Panthers, will never have the rookie season that Newton is having. They will forever be linked over who will do the most in the future and the fact is Luck simply does not have the physical skillset Newton does and that will limit his ability in the future. Luck may be accurate, make all of the throws etc…etc…etc…but the sad thing is he will not win a national championship this year and the truth is, he may never get out from under Newton’s shadow. Once Luck gets into the NFL it will be fun to watch but Newton’s stock is skyrocketing and no first year qb has ever even come close to doing the things Newton has done.

Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rotated heavily with Sherrod to try and keep him healthy by limiting his reps and to get Sherrod some more game experience against a team that lacks a potent pass rush.

Bulaga practiced yesterday, so your whole theory there is shot. Newhouse has been playing very well and Sherrod played pretty well in relief of Clifton at ATL. Only one sack was charged to the Tackles during that game.

Sherrod showed a lot last game, albeit his development has been slower than desired, but that might have something to do with his rotation during camp between tackle and guard and the lack of OTAs because of the lockout. By all accounts, since they have kept him at tackle he’s been improving nicely.

I like the depth the O-line has. Three quality young tackles.
