Julius Peppers missed practice all week with a sprained MCL he suffered against the Lions on Monday night and now it sounds like he’ll miss Sunday night’s game with the Vikings as well.
Peppers is listed as doubtful on the Bears’ injury report, leaving him with a 25 percent chance of getting on the field for the NFC North matchup. Peppers hasn’t missed a game since 2007.
“We downgraded Julius Peppers to doubtful … he wasn’t able to do anything today,” Lovie Smith said following practice. “We are still hopeful, (but) when a guy doesn’t practice at all during the week we’re not too optimistic, but we’ll see.”
Nick Reed would get the start if Peppers can’t make it, a serious blow to a Bears defense that’s already struggling. The team will be breaking in two new safeties with Major Wright and Chris Conte replacing Brandon Meriweather and Chris Harris in the starting lineup, so there are definitely better weeks to be without the best player on their defensive line.
