Your latest Bill Cowher job rumor

ZO2 Rock Asylum Benefit Concert Getty Images

The NFL season hasn’t really started until a new rumor emerged about Bill Cowher’s possiblyenext job.

From Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: “Latest rumor in Jacksonville: Bill Cowher bought a house in Marsh Landing and will replace Jack Del Rio.”

We debated posting this, but the page you are reading is called the “rumor mill” not the “news mill.”  It’s unclear if Dulac has any information, or just heard the rumor second hand.

Dulac wryly notes that we’ve been down this road with Cowher.

“Bill Cowher has been rumored to have bought more houses than Donald Trump,” he writes.

Expect Cowher to deny this rumor in short order. And expect to hear similar rumors about Cowher when jobs are actually available at the end of the season.

If Cowher doesn’t get back in the game soon, it will grow increasingly harder to believe that he’ll ever return.

Of all the Jobs that are likely available he’d take the Jacksonville (future) opening?!?

Really Bill? You can do better. If you were that patient “waiting for the right job”, not sure this is anywhere close to your best option.

Really wish Irsay would hire him as the Colts head coach. Caldwell is clueless.

So let me get this right…he bought a house in Jacksonville to coach the Jags which will eventually mean he will need a house in LA too?

  8. swagjag says: Oct 14, 2011 1:17 PM

As a Jags fan, I highly doubt this happens. Cowher will likely want significantly more $ than Weaver wants to pay. He also may seek some GM responsibilities which Weaver could be reluctant to grant.

  15. christopher525 says: Oct 14, 2011 2:09 PM

Actually, best bets are Miami, Chicago (yes, it’s possible), or my biggest “lock” being Minnesota. At season’s end you’ll likely see them pack in for downtown LA and get a new coaching staff for the new look Vikings. Second team to go from Minnie to LA, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see them keep the colors.

And suddenly the Dolphins Organization has turned from the MOST FAVORITE organization to work for to LEAST FAVORITE organization to work for.

Thank you Stephen Ross, Mike Dee and Ireland.

Can he please buy one in the Philly area too?

  18. Nevis says: Oct 14, 2011 2:17 PM

I don’t buy this story for one second. No way in hell Cowher decides to go to Jax before other teams.

Pipe dream for Jacksonville, plain and simple.

This is credible. He is very good friends with the Mara’s and has stated that we wants to coach for a well respected team with a sense of history.

He is waiting to see what happens with Coughlin, then I believe he will make some type of move for a team. Not necessarily the Giants though if we bring back Coughlin again.

During Cowher’s tenure, the Steelers had the best record of any team in the NFL. In 15 years, Pittsburgh won 8 division titles–making Cowher one of only six coaches in league history to win at least 7 division titles–and made it to the playoffs 10 times. The Steelers played in six AFC Championships and two Super Bowls. And the only people who keep whining the the refs decided Super Bowl XL are pititful lil pissants who would rather whine than watch the game and admit the Steelers made the big plays when needed.

    Chicago?

  28. Robert says: Oct 14, 2011 2:50 PM

    Teams that fit Cowher’s personality:

    1. Philadelphia

    2. Chicago

    3. Cleveland

  29. savocabol1 says: Oct 14, 2011 2:51 PM

You guys have it all wrong.

My sister’s friend’s uncle’s brother’s barber said Cowher was spotted reading a Miami newspaper.

I think I know where he is coaching next.

  32. quittsburghstoolers says: Oct 14, 2011 3:07 PM

“Old ass-chin” ain’t giving up his TV gig unless the Jags seriously overpay him and give him full control.

Then when they move to LA in a few years, he’ll quit…

  33. philtration says: Oct 14, 2011 3:15 PM

Just did a property owner search in the two counties that may be near Marsh Landing, St. Johns and Duval and nope….. No listing for anybody with the last name of Cowher…!

  42. spacincasen says: Oct 14, 2011 4:17 PM

I would literally give one of my kidneys for Cowher to come to Chicago. Please save our franchise!

BRING IN THE CHIN CHICAGO!! Bears go 5-11, Cowher takes over for another storied franchise. If ur him, would you pick Jax or Chitown? No contest there. Giants maybe but they may come close enough or even make the playoffs so Coughlin keeps his job there. Philly? Reid has done enough to keep butts in the seats beyond this year so he’s not going anywhere. Miami is a distinct possibility but not if Chicago tanks as expected and their front office wants to stay in place.

    ——————————————————-

You must be a helluva father if you’d let your 5 year old use the word “ass”. But it’s not surprising at all, considering the fan base you belong to.

How about calling him “Bill Coward” instead?
    Is that better?

That’s what I called him when he was criticizing the Cowboys head coach’s decisions earlier this month.

“Old ass-chin” would never have criticized another coach back in the day when he himself was still coaching.

    http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/10/06/cowher-jones-agree-that-cowboys-should-have-run-the-ball/

When Tiki Barber did similar stuff (dissing other players), he got ripped. But heaven forbid anyone rips on “old ass-chin” for anything, even if it is the EXACT same type of thing others get reamed for…

Why all the hate for Jacksonville? I have been in Detroit, Buffalo, Tampa, Baltimore and plenty of other scummy cities, but why do people think this city is crap? And why do they hate our team so much? It isn’t like we are a dynasty that fans despise. We actually love our team here.

Tampa Bay was pushing it, Jacksonville was over the line.
