ReutersIf the Bills are going to beat the Giants in a rematch of Super Bowl XXV (Scott Norwood just puked, again), they’ll have to do it without linebacker Shawne Merriman.
The team announced that Merriman has been downgraded from doubtful to out.
Veteran linebacker Chris Kelsay also is a scratch, which means that second-year linebackers Danny Batten and Arthur Moats will get the start.
Merriman is suffering from an Achilles’ tendon injury. It’s an old problem that flared up on Thursday. Coach Chan Gailey said Merriman’s condition will be evaluated during the bye week.
Merriman has started all five games this season for the 4-1 Bills.

He was so much better when he was roided up, the guy is invisible now.
LOL!!
merriman upgraded to has been
Downgraded to out? At 2:09 today I was informed he didn’t even travel with the team. Zzz.
This guy is toast.
…..still better than Posluzney!
Light’s OUT, baby!!
There goes any chance at the playoffs.
please…. merriman is garbage. we never should have signed him, let alone RESIGNED him….
And now the chances of the bills winning have gone from questionable to probable this Sunday.
Never in is career he was ever good he has been garbage when the NFL found out he was on steroids his career when down in to the toilet. I feel bad for Chargers fans who wasted 2nd round pick when they could have found a replacement for LT cause he was old
wwwmattcom says
still better than posluzney.

HOW please tell me how hopefully your joking it least posluzney stays healthey and not on steroids he makes a factor on defense and is a good linebacker merriman was out 13 games out last season with the same injury he has now merriman garbage
I think Ralph Wilson must’ve performed the physical himself. Who in there right mind would clinically clear this guy for a contract? twice?
Quintin Groves started the first five games this year, too. Groves has 19 tackles, one forced fumble, 0 sacks. Merriman has 9 tackles. Groves lost his job to a guy that’s been in town for two days. The trade deadline hasn’t passed, Buffalo. Make a move.
To everyone who is calling Merriman “garbage” and “washed up”, etc… He hasn’t been a complete bust this year. He has been getting pressure, he just hasn’t gotten a ton of sacks; but then again, the Bills Defense hasn’t gotten too many sacks so far this season either. Don’t get too excited, this means out two OLB are Danny Batten and Arthur Moats…They’re sitting him because the Bye Week is coming up. Makes sense, especially when I would assume the Giants are going to run the ball quite a bit this week.
What is the Bills record?? 4-1? Yeah, they might be making some good choices this year, better than most. SM will get healthy for the playoffs, which is where he matters.
he’shad 1 sack for buffalo this season, and it came in their one loss
he’s hardly been an impact player for them
so this ‘out’ is much ado about nothing
the important thing for this weekend, is which eli shows up and if the bills can int yet another qb 4 times in one game (brady and vick)
He’s been “out” since the season started. Stick a roid in him, he’s done.
Clueless,
Poz only looks good when the play is already 5-7 yards down field. He definitely gets involved in the play, just too late. Are you a Bills fan? If you are you don’t watch games. You don’t invest 6/42 mil, money in a guy who is NOT a leader and makes late plays.
SM definitely doesn’t have the explosiveness that he used to but Poz NEVER did and Merriman hasn’t blown any pass coverages. He’s always in the right spot. SM hasn’t been a game changer but Poz isn’t either. I am VERY happy Poz is gone, he was getting stale. I see he has 39 Tackles in Jacksonville, but they are 1-4. London Fletcher and Takeo Spikes has those kinds of numbers on bad Bills teams, wonder why they weren’t resigned?
FYI Nick Barnett replaced Poz and you can’t dispute Barnett is a MUCH better LB than Poz.
There’s a reason Poz got shipped out. And performance wise, Merriman is right where he was expected to be- he has not been the every down LB yet this year so sitting out a game isn’t as big a deal as the geniuses make it out to be.
Nick Barnett > Paul Posluzney
