If the Bills are going to beat the Giants in a rematch of Super Bowl XXV (Scott Norwood just puked, again), they’ll have to do it without linebacker Shawne Merriman.

The team announced that Merriman has been downgraded from doubtful to out.

Veteran linebacker Chris Kelsay also is a scratch, which means that second-year linebackers Danny Batten and Arthur Moats will get the start.

Merriman is suffering from an Achilles’ tendon injury. It’s an old problem that flared up on Thursday. Coach Chan Gailey said Merriman’s condition will be evaluated during the bye week.

Merriman has started all five games this season for the 4-1 Bills.
